Fan comes on with ignition

Post image

Hey guys, I just got my Evo I yesterday and wanted to check if this or normal or not. My radiator fan comes on when I turn the ignition key on, is that normal? I think I have an aftermarket fan installed I really haven’t had a chance to dig deep into the car yet. From videos I’ve seen it doesn’t seem fan is supposed to come on right away.

Second question, is the stock exhaust quiet? Because mine sounds very normal as in it’s not loud at all even when I press on the pedal while in neutral.

Haven’t taken car out yet for a proper drive since it doesn’t have any plates on yet but just trying to get a better understanding of the car now.

Lancia Ypsilon 1.4 16V + Landi Renzo LPG

Hi everyone,

I have a 2008 Lancia Ypsilon Sport MomoDesign 1.4 16V, 106,000 km, with an aftermarket Landi Renzo LPG system, and I'm stuck between two mechanics who disagree about the cause of a recurring problem.

In April 2026 the LPG system had a serious electrical failure: the changeover switch was malfunctioning and repeatedly switching between petrol and LPG, damaging the wiring and the LPG ECU.

The following were replaced/repaired:

- LPG changeover switch

- LPG wiring harness

- LPG ECU (refurbished)

- complete LPG system inspection/repair

Afterwards, the LPG specialist said the remaining problems were caused by the throttle body.

My regular mechanic disagreed, cleaned/reconditioned the throttle body and performed the official relearn/adaptation procedure.

Since then, the car runs perfectly on petrol, even for long distances.

However, after switching to LPG, everything is initially fine. After about 20–30 km, the check engine light comes on and I get:

- P1171 – Mixture 1 additive: below lower limit

- P1172 – Mixture 1 multiplicative: above upper limit

At the same time, on LPG the car becomes rougher on deceleration, can hesitate/surge when coasting downhill, and the idle sometimes drops to ~500 rpm before recovering, or stays around 1000–1100 rpm.

Freeze frames

P1171: 1960 rpm, 24.75% load, coolant 72°C, throttle 9.41°

P1172: 2000 rpm, 59.25% load, coolant 76.5°C, throttle 20.39°

The codes return after clearing them, but only after driving on LPG again.

The LPG specialist still says replace the throttle body. My regular mechanic thinks the throttle body is fine because the problem is completely absent on petrol and believes the LPG system should be investigated.

I also have AlfaOBD and can log parameters such as injection time, throttle angle, upstream/downstream lambda voltage, lambda integrator, FRA factor and DTV factor.

What do you think? Does this pattern point more towards an LPG fuelling/calibration/pressure/injector issue, or could a faulty throttle body realistically cause these codes only after extended LPG operation?

I'd really like to avoid replacing the throttle body just by trial and error. Any advice on what parameters I should log would also be appreciated.

It was rolling along in regular traffic here in tiny Gravellona Toce, Italy. No, it’s not a tribute. H-Sport is based in Borgaro Torinese. It sounded fantastic.

The Fascinating Story Behind Lancia Thema 8.32

Post image

I recently fell down the rabbit hole of the Thema 8.32 and kept discovering stranger details.
Everyone knows it had a Ferrari V8, but what surprised me was how difficult the whole project actually was. Convincing Enzo Ferrari to hand over one of Ferrari’s current-production V8s was only the beginning. The engine itself had to be redesigned with a cross-plane crankshaft, the gearbox strengthened, cooling completely reworked, and even Ducati became involved in the assembly process.
It feels less like a special edition and more like an after-hours engineering project that somehow escaped into production.
I ended up writing the whole story if anyone wants a deeper dive. Link in the comments.

Found this badge in a box, any ideas on age/model it's from?

I found this badge in a box with a stereo I bought at a car boot, oddly enough. Some fading to the red in the letters as you can see. I wondered if anyone can identify it in terms of age/era and likely model it's from?
