Legitimate question: would acid make me learn a language better

Whenever I take acid I feel like I can exist without my schemas dictating my perception.

I’m thinking about learning Urdu (TL) for my beautiful partner, but I have an awful habit of trying to directly translate things to english.

I was in the shower and thought, what if I took an acid tab and tried to learn it like I’m a toddler? Full on hitting the restart button to try remove comparison; an attempt to make it the new definition instead of just translation.

Thoughts? has anyone tried this?

The funniest part is that you somehow convinced yourself acid is a learning aid 😂😭

LSD does not temporarily unlock some pristine, schema free superbrain. You’re taking a chemical that can scramble attention and working memory then expecting that to somehow make vocabulary stick better

It is not going to make you “learn like a toddler.” And best you are an adult on acid trying to study Urdu 😂

Are you going to do that every time you try to learn Urdu? A few sessions of that wouldn’t be enough to know if that’s any good. Plus, if you want to stop translating from English, just stop translating from English. Try to make sentences without using English in your head. Everything is a matter of practice.

Toddlers are actually really bad at learning languages. A child takes let’s say 10 years to fully grasp the grammar and phonology of their native language, an adult can do that in like 2-3 if they’re being efficient.

I think as long as a tab isn’t too much for you. When I have tripped I found using language more difficult including my native language.

Also one day of doing it won’t make a huge difference, language work takes hours and years, no cheat way around it unfortunately

This doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

You can find Urdu content on lairner (sic), Memrise (a bit limited), QLango and Linguardia. For such an important language it's woefully underserved. Also, Duolingo has an English course for Urdu speakers, so you can study the language kind of in reverse by doing that. You would need to go somewhere else to learn the alphabet first.

honestly never tried it but i get what you mean about the schema thing, language feels way more fluid when your brain stops trying to box everything in

might be worth a shot if you go in with some basic vocab already down, acid's not gonna teach you grammar but it could help you stop fighting the language and just absorb it

worst case you just have a weird trip staring at urdu script trying to remember what چ means

Thought this was in another sub for a minute lol. Fr tho, you can't reasonably do it often enough to use this as a main strat ofc, plus it'd be a bit silly and inefficient. However I think it'd definitely be a fun exercise if you're gonna partake anyways :) Given the practice is with your partner(*) ofc lol.

If you google "lsd reopening of critical period" then you'll find some scientific research that could support the idea, kinda. But I wouldn't count on it working out.
