I'm a Harvard grad and want to help out 7-12th graders with Math in my free time
*** UPDATE : Thank you all for the kind words and interest. Over the last 15 hours or so, I got messages from over 50 students. I'll try to respond to all of you and hear about your difficulties. But please be informed that it could take up to a few days.

If you are 7-12th grader and struggling with Math, maybe I can help you to find root causes and put you on a right track. Ask me anything, and DM is welcome. **Just fyi, I'm not looking for a paid position or whatsoever. I wanna do this in my free time.

Does seem weird but working with high school kids is way better cause you can instill your ego upon them and they wont care

I relearned algebra and some calculus to help my Godson and it was actually fun. I just don’t know how I can help anyone out. What do I do? Just wait for my cousin to get older and start over?

lol unfortunately, I'm focusing on middle-high school students. I'm not even a math major so I won't be that helpful to college students. I just used to tutor lots of k-12 students before, and noticed there are a lot of them out there who needs help. I'm sure there are more talented people in this subreddit who can help you out :)

Hi. I have learned math by memory and mechanical repetition, without really knowing what I am actually doing. And because of this, I fail at understanding the math problem: most of the times I don’t know if I’m in the right direction, and I have issues when choosing the correct tools. Any advice is deeply appreciate it. Regards.

If that's the case, I'd rec you start from the "basics". Essentially, the foundation of all mathematics is what's known as "discrete math". Unlike most high school courses, rather than emphasizing algebraic manipulation, you'll start with basic logic. In doing so, you'll realize there's a structured way you CAN think about math. And once you're in the loop with that, you'll ultimately be able to develop and understand more complicated ideas. There's a lot of videos on YouTube about it, but I'll recommend these 2.

Hi. Thank you so much for replying! From feeling very overwhelmed about starting again, thinking that it was going to be a heavy load. Now that I know that there is a structured way to think about math, I feel very enthusiastic and curious. I have been a big fan of 3blue1brown videos for a very long time, and I always found myself saying “it would be really nice if I could understand that”. Now I think I’m going to able to do it. Just started looking for discrete math books and I’m also starting the Stanford series. Thank you so much! Kind regards.

Not sure where i went wrong. In grad school doing some maths/stats after non-maths undergrad. I was considered talented in maths and sci up to year 10 (advanced classes and all) 10-12 i completely lost interest in anything to do maths. Ended with holes upon holes in fundamentals. Would love to get in contact with someone like you!

I'm blessed to have the opportunity to live during this time when you can find/learn absolutely everything on the internet basically for free. Life is amazing. Can't wait to see how people live on different planets

Idk if you’re religious but people in my mosque do things like this. My uncle was offering real estate classes for free some other guys were teaching kids to code. You might be able to do that at your particular religious center. I’m agnostic but I gotta admit the sense of community from a mosque, church, temple is a great thing.
