GAL should I request

Upvotes

Location: PA
Long story short. Last 3 years total nightmare. Ex using PFA and other legal programs to literally try to destroy me. I know I know I’m sure everyone says that. However, no previous police reports no reports of anything in 20 years. She has always loved to use the system for free money or whatever. That’s what she does.

Ex told fam members she was leaving me 3 years ago then before she did that she found out about all the victim services stuff she could get and setup scheme to create an incident with friend as a “witness” which put me out of home. For verbal altercation. I’ve been fighting for access to my youngest minor child since.

My ex has history of abuse toward the kids and I have witnesses. She is a hoarder and now pretending to be disabled so court won’t have her work. Last week court told her income now imputed no documentation of actually being disabled. So Now she’s trying to use PFA to retaliate again. Anyway. Long story short. We are in counseling with minor child because of her refusal to coparent in any way shape or form as well as child’s struggles with the conflict. No one will listen to me. No one acknowledges she may have some issues. It’s like the PFA has trumped anything I have to say.

I am worried about my child’s living conditions and being in the midst of this nightmare. Should I request a GAL? Someone needs to investigate both of us. She’s been made untouchable and I just want to ensure child is ok. And their life calms down.

Pros cons. Please help?
Thank you in advance. I know this post doesn’t even scratch the surface of this nightmare but typing quickly just know she refuses to stop and find a way forward to coparent and just let us each go our own ways. At every turn vindictiveness rules everything including using minor child and extreme alienation per counselor findings. I just want her to leave me alone and allow our child to have the best childhood they can in this nightmare and have both parents in live instead of being used as a tool in her revenge. Thanks

Traffic and Parking Driver made a fake accident report now im in court location:

Upvotes

Please help or any tips this is making me so depressed don’t want to mess up my driving record

A driver that was messing with me on the road claim I hit him when I didn’t. He provided a dash cam footage that was about 15 seconds that shows nothing and he also filed a report in another city that I never even met him at. He has a dash cam so if I did also hit him in that other city he would have footage for it which he obviously doesn’t and I have to go to court now for two different cities, I have a lawyer he doesn’t seem like the best, but I already paid for it. Is there any legal advice anyone can help me with.

They are charging me with leaving the scene and failure to report an accident for both cities

Should I get a new lawyer?

Upvotes

Location: North Carolina

I (65) am the medical power of attorney for my mother (83), who is in late stage dementia. We live in the house I grew up in, and I have been her caretaker since 2013. At that time, I was also my father’s caregiver who died of dementia in 2018. My sister and only surviving sibling is the executor of the estate, which includes the house I live in with my mother, two single family homes on the same property, and a trailer. The entire estate is 3 houses, one trailer, and 6 acres of land.

My mother is still living, but my sister has already sold one of the houses, refuses to rent the other one, and is now saying the estate has “no money” and that I am going to be forced to put mother in a nursing home so she can move me out and sell the house and the open acreage. The trust explicitly states the properties are to remain in the trust to help pay expenses until mother dies. I have hired an estate lawyer to subpoena the financial records to find out how the estate could possibly be out of money when she’s already sold one property in 2020 for $265,000 and the other was rental income until June when she abruptly decided it was time to put mother in a home and liquidate the whole estate. I believe my sister has been mishandling funds and is intending to keep all the proceeds from the sale of the homes on the estate. Indeed, I believe she has already pocketed the $265,000.

I explained all of this when I hired an estate lawyer in July, and I have heard absolutely nothing from this lawyer. I explained my sister is putting pressure on me, as the medical power of attorney, to put mother in a home. I explained I don’t feel safe and I dont know what my rights are. I paid a 5,000 retainer and a $900 fee upfront, gave the lawyer a copy of the trust, and signed paperwork July 28th. Is it normal to go this long and hear nothing at all? I have no idea what I should expect, what a reasonable timeline is, what the process of getting these financial records is, I don’t know what to do. I live on a fixed income and don’t have to spare so ai hesitate to be a problem with the lawyer, as the money I gave her already has come out of my retirement account. I just don’t know what to do.

PA - Car bought year ago clean title found out shouldnt have one.

Location: Pennsylvania

Bought a car almost exactly a year ago. Recently over the last 2-3 months its been having electrical issues and throwing random codes after driving and being fine for anywhere from 20mins to a few hours of driving.. So it's been to 3 garages and the most recent garage specifically works on german cars. Its a 2020 volkswagen with 109x miles, we bought it with i think 98k miles.

The problem now is when we were sold the car we were told it was in a minor accident. The most recent garage called to let us know they are done working on the car because its an electrical issue that has to do with the car being in a major front end accident, they informed us they searched up the vin to check if this car had a clean title because there is no way it should as the A Pillar took serious damage and wasn't fixed correctly and the seam sealer around that area has failed apparently. It also has a broken radiator support, fuse box is broken(there is our electrical problems) and some of stuff on the driver side is broken.. They told us we can come pick the car up and the best they can recommend is to take it to an auto body shop, have them look it over and figure out whether to let insurance fight it or our bank seeing as how their name is on the title too..

So i looked up some information and of course google told me about a consumer protection law in Pennsylvania.. Apparently when dealerships take vehicles in they're supposed to really go over them with a comb to make sure stuff like this doesn't slide through, they are also the ones who inspected the vehicle so it seems alarming they didn't catch this on either "inspection".. Is this something i should look into? Is it something insurance would have a lawyer pick up? I'm really unsure what to do with this... Thanks for any help.

If I die, can the beneficiary of my bank account move the money without a will.

Location: Florida, United States

I don't have wife nor children. I don't have any other assets besides a brokerage account.

I intend to leave all the money to a single beneficiary, do I still need a will?

As a beneficiary, this person will be able to move all the money, effectively acting as executor and a recipient, right? Do banks still require a will?

Dealing with betrayal and advice on how to take action (legally)

To begin, some background: I was a high school student entering my second semester of junior year. Things looked incredible, I was a well-accomplished wrestler, my grades were good, and I had an excellent group of friends. I was friends with these two girls, I practically grew up with them. We would hang out at one of my mates' home, exchange banter, and have an all-around good time. I knew these girls my entire life and have attended that school (which I am choosing to leave anonymous for their safety and my own) for my entire life. In early January I was asked to see the school principal. I wanna make this reliably apparent, I was a "troublemaker at school" and no cupid by any means. However, I was sat down and told I was expelled. I asked "why?" the response was that girl A (whom I will call "Suzie") as well as girl B (whom I will call "Sasha") reported me to the front office for allegedly creating an AI pornographic video of girl A with another student. Naturally, I was upset as I did not commit this heinous act. I, of course, asked the office if I could see any evidence of wrongdoing (in which they had no such thing, cause no such thing existed). Instead of remaining professional I was indirectly threatened by the head of school. I was scared and did not know what to do. My father, whom I informed of everything that had occurred, was (like any father would be) furious and threatened the school with legal action due to defamation of character. An important note, while I knew these girls reported it, I believed they were my friends. So, I went to them and asked them what had happened and they refrained from telling me their true intent. I asked them to help me and tell the office there were no such videos and explained that I am sorry for the confusion. I now believe upon reflection I know what this "confusion" was. I was at a wrestling duel with my friend (who I will refer to as "Matt"), Sasha and Suzie were the team managers so naturally we would exchange between matches as well as Matt. Again, this next part is entirely my fault and I recognize that upon reflection; it was a complete lapse of judgment and my own fault. Sasha (who liked my friend "Decon" at the time) explained to Matt and I that she and a girl I was all too familiar with (something I will circle back to so take note of this) had made an AI video of them boxing each other over the "affection" of my mate Decon. The following response from me was what I believed caused all these issues to begin (only to begin). I responded with "oh, we have one too," (referring to Matt by saying "we"). Sasha, as expected, asked to see to which I said no (as there really was no AI video). However, I thought I was joking with her, and attempted to provoke her harmlessly by showing Matt my phone which read "theres no video, just play along, I am messing with her." I am embarrassed and this was an incredibly stupid thing to do; however, I remain adamant that this should not have caused the following response in the coming days. I stupidly did not clarify to her before leaving that there was no video on our end of her boxing for Decon. Somehow, Sasha believed the proposed video to be sexual in nature (something I do not know to this day how happened). While I have my own opinions and thoughts on how this may have happened, I do not wish to speculate on something I have no concrete evidence to confirm). However, while I may not understand how this mistranslation occurred, and to a degree this is my own fault for messing with Sasha to begin with, I still figured "hey, I had done nothing actually wrong, I have nothing to be afraid of and the school will know this soon." I was correct in this assumption and the dean of the school wished to talk to my father about reenrollment and repealing the notice of expulsion as there was no actual evidence of wrongdoing. Unfortunately, about three months prior, I had a wrestling group with Matt, Sasha, Suzie, and another friend who is not relevant to this. Matt and I were saying "showboaty" things for shock value. For clarification, there was no mal intent and it was a shock value exchange which the girls were reacting positively to. I said something that could be perceived to be a threat in a literal sense, but in context was clearly harmless (a joke). So, in learning that the school was going to let me back in, these three girls (Sasha, Suzie, and Maggie). I have not addressed who Maggie is so I will do so now before proceeding: Maggie was an ex-fling I had who hates me. No sugarcoated way of saying that, she does. She has tried to get me expelled for years and in hearing I had made an alleged AI pornographic video of her friend, she pushed them to go to the office and get me expelled. Again, I understood why Sasha would go to the office if she truly believed the alleged video was sexual in nature. Sasha dug through our GC (located on Snapchat) and turned it in to the office in hopes that it would secure my expulsion as they had discovered I would not be expelled because there was nothing found. Since, as mentioned before, the video I had created on the GC, alongside Matt, was a threat from an objective standpoint, law enforcement was involved out of obligation and I was detained. Fast-forwarding, we (my legal team) attempted to subpoena Snapchat to find contextualization and prove that the girls were not afraid as they were now claiming. The girls later admitted that they just wanted me out of school and it was "never meant to go this far." They claimed to the Commonwealth they were "fearful for their lives" which stalled the process. To their credit, I was later informed by a close friend of theirs that they really were fearful for their lives, but not because of the video. They believed that since they got me in legal trouble despite no AI video existing (which they were informed of following two state searches of my phone) that I would want "revenge" which they were fearful of. Luckily, I won the legal battle, as I was a minor at the time and despite not being able to successfully subpoena Snapchat due to the way in which their servers operate. However, in the time this took I was shunned by families who thought I was a monster, unwelcomed in many places, and I had lost my livelihood. I am shaken, and still reeling with all I have lost through this process, but I am attempting to do better. I now wanna ask anyone who read my story if they know what to do next. I am not proud of how this experience has made me feel. It ended up legally okay, but now I am always bitter, and want them to face action for what they did. I understood the beginning, but to claim fear even after court clarification that they were wrong is beyond personal, it's malicious and neglectful. I now am ashamed to admit that I want them to face action. I do not want to hurt them, I never have. But I want them to face legal action, unfortunately, since Snapchat could not be subpoenaed I cannot sue for defamation. However, I still want action. As it stands, I know that all three of them engage in several illegal activities in Virginia such as the following: repeated use of a fake ID (in both entering bars and purchasing alcohol, providing alcohol to minors during a hosted party, and use of illegal substances such as marijuana. However, all of these are Class A misdemeanors, and with no prior record and a strong legal team, they will likely dismiss this immediately. While they are not careful and a private investigator (in which I intend on hiring) could uncover sufficient evidence to support everything mentioned before, I feel I want them to face some kind of further action that I won't be fearful of getting dismissed immediately. I, to make abundantly clear, do not want to hurt them or any harm to come; however, I want their livelihood disrupted and taken as mine was. I am upset I care as much as I do, but to discover they brag about what they did now, and the betrayal of this coming from what I believed to be friends, hurts more than I could ever describe. I don't know what to do next, and if anyone has any advice on how to proceed through ANY means LEGALLY to have them face consequence that won't be immediately dismissed, please reach out. Thank you for listening.

Canada False dog bite claim against us? Is there anything we can do?

Location: Southern Ontario, Canada.

Our dog is a male cane corso. At the time of the incident (a couple months ago) he was 15 months old and already weighed 135 pounds.

Our family of 4 (myself, my husband and kids, ages 11 and 8) stay seasonally at a trailer park that is open from may to October. We sign a contract every year, and in that contract it does say the park manager can evict pets at their discretion.

Onto the incident. I had our dog at an event, as did other people. One child asked to pet my dog, I said yes because he’s is very friendly and has been socialized since we got him. He ended up giving this kid a warning, barked a couple times and jumped up. I got control right away and got him down on all four legs. There was a face to face collision with the child (I’m guessing around 10 years old) so the child did get a split lip. I apologized to the mother, told her that our dog is up to date on his vaccines and thought that was the end of it.

Next day we get a call from our local health unit. The mother claimed it was a bite. I don’t disagree that the child was injured, but nobody has shown us proof of a bite. Just the mother claiming it was. Health unit dismissed our case after a couple days. We thought all was good after that.

I was wrong. We next heard from our local animal control asking about our dog and the “bite”. Once he heard it was a cane corso, and looked at the photo of the child after the incident, he told us that child did not get bit. We didn’t even get a fine. Case closed. His opinion didn’t matter though, our trailer park manager evicted our dog permanently from the park.

Unhappy with that decision, my husband and I reached out to the ethical hotline that owns our park to report how our manager reacted to this incident. It’s supposed to be anonymous and they should investigate. The person at the ethical hotline who received our claim went directly to our accuser (the park manager) and only got his side of the story. No investigation happened, and our dog is still banned.

The hotline operator breached protocol and forwarded my private complaint directly to the local park manager. This severe breach of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) has me now wondering what my options are. I can provide eye witness accounts that it was not a bite. I have both the health unit and animal control saying it was not a bite. I just want my dog back, and I want his (and my to be honest) reputation restored. He is not aggressive, what happened is unfortunate and I’m upset a child did get hurt. If he was aggressive, we wouldn’t have him with 2 young children of our own. He’s family, and I want to fight for him. Is this something worth fighting for?!

My insurance company (National General) just sent me a copy of a demand letter they received from the other driver's lawyer, demanding my full bodily injury policy limits ($25,000)

Minor low-speed parking lot accident while I was backing out of a private parking lot in Alabama: a lawyer sent a letter demanding the $25,000 policy limit; there were no injuries at the scene. I am seeking advice. Given Alabama's strict contributory negligence rules and the fact that there are photos showing purely cosmetic damage and no reported injuries at the scene, how do adjusters typically handle these kinds of opportunistic claims? Should I be worried about personal exposure, or will insurance handle this in negotiations?
Thanks in advance for any insights!

Criminal Law Girlfriend hit and run in my vehicle

Location: New Jersey

My girlfriend was involved in a hit and run in my vehicle. By involved I mean she hit a parked car and left. Didn't leave a note or anything. I was not aware until I got home from work and she told me about it. The damage to my vehicle is minimal. Most of it will buff out, and a little touch up paint should make it look as good as new. I do not know the extent of the damage to the other vehicle. Needless to say I will no longer be lending her my car.

It happened in a parking lot where I believe there are cameras and may have been witnesses. I have not heard anything from the police yet, but it hasn't even been a day. What should I do if the police contact me? Should I just tell them she was driving? Or should I just respectfully refuse to answer any questions? Obviously I don't want to be blamed or charged with anything, but I'd prefer not to throw her under the proverbial bus either if possible. Also, can I be charged with anything just for being aware of it and not reporting it? I mean, I wasn't at the scene or anything. I don't feel like I should be responsible for reporting it. Although it was my vehicle and it's insured in my name. What should I do?

Neighbor’s Dog Attacked/Bit My Dog & Husband

Location: California, USA

My husband and I moved to a new home in a relatively unsafe area (mix of trendy and shady areas in the neighborhood; not the type of place you’d walk around at night).

We haven’t encountered anything bad for the first couple months and most people we’ve talked to are decent, but… recently my neighbor’s dog (from a house that shared a fence with us in the back yard) jumped over the shared fence and attacked our dog while my husband was watching our two dogs in the backyard. My husband quickly went to pry the dog off of our dog and in the process got bit too.

My husband was able to get our dogs inside and hold off the neighbor’s dog. Eventually the neighbor hopped over the fence and got their dog while making awkward joke-ish statements about his dog needing to go back to the shelter to alleviate the situation and explained that this (his dog hopping the fence) happens sometimes??? (Which makes us concerned that 1. They’ve been in our yard unknowingly to get their dog and 2. They’ve known about this and did nothing). They also kept apologizing.

The part that makes me worry is that we live next to this person and dont know if theyre sane/reasonable or unsafe. The reason i say that is the neighborhood isnt the safest/known to have gangs and the person apparently had a lot of tattoos and face tattoos and this dog was unfortunately a pittie…. I dont think pitties are inherently bad; what i think is that bad irresponsible people purposely adopt pitbulls because of their reputation and train them to be aggressive. I hate to profile people, but the neighborhood, mixed with the face tattoos, and the pitbull make me worried that this is not a good person.

The reason I’m writing this post is I want to know what I can do legally & I want to know what I should do given the possibility that this person is a bad person that we have to continue to live next to/this person could be a bad person that tries to make our life a living hell if we upset them/report them……

If i could have it my way, what i want is the dog to be rehabilitated/trained or rehomed and rehabilitated there. I do not want the dog euthanized. I would also like the neighbor to pay for my husband’s medical bills/dog’s vet bills. I’d also like that they make the fence higher or put barbed wire (I don’t know if that’s legal).

In short, I want this to never happen again (without hurting the dog) and I want our bills to be paid for because it’s not fair that we have to pay for them…. My husband also is having difficulty using his right hand now which he uses for work….. what can we do?

Real Estate law NYC:At what point does a noise complaint become harassment?

Location: NYC. I have a downstairs tenant/ neighbor (my mom is the landlord and lives upstairs) and about a year ago we had an incident with the guy where I used to do my morning workout between 9-10am each day and one day without warning he called and began verbally berating my mother in which she responded by saying his tone was disappropiate, the noise was within hours 9am-9pm and we are barely home and at the time of the complaint id have left for about an hour. Since then he’s been banging on the roof daily at all hours even at 1 am, cursing and playing loud music despite me stopping the workout and at this point I’m documenting since it seems like he’s specifically targeting me. I’d like to know what I would have to document (I’ve been documenting him calling me crude words and banging) but anything else? How should I go about this?

Denied auto loan due to maternity leave…what to do next

Basically trying to figure out what to do next, my bank emailed me a statement saying they cannot proceed with an auto loan due to me being on maternity leave. According to google that’s highly discriminating?? Is it worth speaking to someone about legal actions or let it pass. I filed a complaint online with the CFPB already.

Diamond Bar city inspectors entered my massage room during a client session, is this normal?

I’m a massage therapist renting a suite in Diamond Bar, CA, and I’m really unsettled by how city inspectors handled visits to the building.

I’m wondering if someone reported me because I didn’t respond to them, although I don’t respond to every random message for personal safety reasons. Unfortunately, I’ve had past experiences with creeps and inappropriate inquiries. Most legitimate clients either book directly through my scheduling website which requires creating an account and helps verify identity or contact me through my Instagram.

The building is clearly marked with a QR code on the front door, and it states that it is “by appointment only”. The exterior doors are kept locked partly because of safety concerns in the area, including issues with people trying to enter the building.

During the first visit, inspectors repeatedly slammed on the window (about three rounds) and it shook the building. The suite owner tried to arrange a time for them to return, but apparently got redirected between departments. Then inspectors came back unannounced.

They went room to room, left doors open, and entered my room while I had a client on the table. There was a knock, but the door opened almost immediately afterward. I didn’t even have enough time to take a step toward the door and open it myself. I had a sign on the door indicating I was with a client, so it was obvious that a session was in progress.

They took photos and told me they needed to inspect the room. I understand that businesses may be subject to inspections, but I felt like I was expected to stop working immediately without prior notice or any explanation that there had been a complaint. It felt incredibly intrusive for both me and my client.

I was told I could not operate there because the suite owner had a cosmetology license and that I was not covered under it. What confused me was that I was not given any clear option or guidance about obtaining my own business license or becoming compliant.

I’m not trying to avoid regulations. I just want to operate legally, protect my clients’ privacy, and be treated respectfully. Has anyone dealt with Diamond Bar code enforcement or business inspections? Is it normal for inspectors to enter a massage treatment room during an active appointment like that? And how would you find out exactly what license or permit is required for an independent massage therapist renting a suite there?

Question about deeds

Location: NC I inherited a home with a mortgage through survivorship. It was supposed to be 10 acres but 6 were given away before my grandmother (who adopted me) passed away. These 6 acres are still included in the mortgaged amount. It has been confirmed through a lawyer that the 10 acres is even in the original note from 1992 and the current mortgage. My aunt and uncle have the 6 split in between them. This was done after a refinance by my grandmother which they talked her into. This with all 10 acres was supposed to be mine from my grandfather, but after he passed, everyone came around with their hand out and took what was supposed to be mine. My grandmother was manipulated into it which is hard to prove in court since she has passed. I want that land back in my name since I'm paying for it now through the mortgage. The best a lawyer could do is write a demand letter stating that they owe 16 month back pay of what would be their portion of the mortgage since I've been paying. Or if they dont want to be sued, then surrender the deeds to me. I am trying to go for unjust enrichment. The lawyer says it is able to be done, but he seems very lazy with his job and I'm not sure if I can trust him. He never calls back and only takes cash. The lawyer says he cant serve by publication which is somethjng I looked into. The relatives have sold their homes and are moving out of state so this is a time sensitive issue. They are avoiding all contact that i try to have with them. The only time they wanted to talk to me was when they begged me to release their parcels so they could sell them, which I'm not doing. I would like any and all information on this issue.

Other Civil Matters Grounds for lawsuit?

So my family has been with out power for roughly 24 hours in 80+ degree heat, 2 of which are disabled and 1 with the possibility of being put into seizures from prolonged heat exposure, not known to the township I live in to my knowledge. We had some electrical work done to update/upgrade the house as it was built 60 years ago. The contractors did their work great looks amazing, the i spector for the township did their job . Then when it came time for the township services to come back out and hook the power cables from the telephone pole back to the house they went to my neighbors property and circled his driveway and just drive away. Claiming someone was working in the electrical boxes outside the home. I know for a fact they weren't. They had finished and called for an inspection before i had gone elsewhere. I had returned about an hour and a half later upon receiving texts from my grandmother trying to figure out how to work a generac generator, which she referred to as a box and couldn't get it working. Upon returning, i learned that we would be without power until the following morning at 8 am. Would I have any grounds on for a lawsuit against the township for negligence? Or really any grounds for a lawsuit. I'm not really sure about the legalities or any regulations for the local township regarding it. I just need some general information for the USA on the matter to help understand if I have any ground to stand on before I bother with stupidly high consulting fees of the local lawyers. I appreciate any help anyone can provide.

Anyone more well versed on the states laws and regulations I'd be happy to hear from about the situation.

I'm on mobile right now posting, so apologies for any typos and grammar issues.

Fence repair- who is responsible?

Location: Clark County, WA

Hi, I need some advice on what steps I should take regarding a shared fence with a neighbor I am scared of. What can I do?

Essentially: neighbor has trees next to the fence and these trees are pushing the fence over. Looks like this has been an issue in the past as evident from all the extra screws and nails in the boards. The bottom of the fence is also being pushed out by the tree. I went out to trim some of the branches that were hanging over the property line (and made sure not to trim any that were thicker than a broom stick so as not to chance hurting the tree). Our neighbor went further down the fence line and BROKE part of the fence, like, pushed it out towards my side. I am not sure what he was doing but he did not start doing it until he heard me trimming the branches. I have before and after photos of the damage but I am not sure if I can post them.

A little bit of context in why I refuse to speak with the neighbors: he scares me. I had to call code enforcement on his basketball hoop that he refused to move over so I could have room to park my car on the street in front of our houses. He ended up parking a car there that I know he will never move. Since then, he will come outside when I go outside, front yard or back yard. There is more but its not relevent to my questions. We have been documenting the instances in case things escalate further. I am afraid to try and fix the fence myself in case he tries confronting me.

We are trying to fix things up to move and now understand why people do not live in our house long. According to other neighbors he has issues and has tried fighting neighbors in the street. He does not work and does not leave the house. He will not leave the house now since he won't move his cars (in case I park there).

So my big questions are: Is it his responsibility to repair the fence that his trees have broken? Or is it a shared responsibility? How can I make sure he fixes the fence he purposely broke? Would a strongly worded letter suffice or do I need to hire an attorney?

Thank you for your help!

Serial R*pist and Abuser: What Legal Repercussions Are Possible?

Location: California

I dated a man and personally experienced sexual violence and assault. After posting about him on a women’s dating-safety app, many women left anonymous comments detailing alleged physical abuse, sexual assault, and financial exploitation spanning Washington, Oregon, and California.

I have been shocked by both the severity of their experiences and the sheer number of women who may have been victimized by this man. He remains active on dating apps using a different name and age.

He previously worked as a high school teacher and with young adults. Because he appears to target younger women, I am concerned that he may not be safe around them.

What lawful steps can I take to help prevent further harm and pursue accountability? Would it be appropriate to go to the police or make an anonymous report to his employer? I have screenshots but want to protect the women’s privacy and avoid compromising evidence or creating legal risk for myself.

Custody Divorce and Family Location: Maine - Protection Order Advice

Location: Maine (US) - I had been dating this guy for 4 years and today things went overboard when I outted him to the girl he’s been cheating on me with. He has been calling me non stop on a blocked number, once on his moms phone in the middle of the blocked calls, messaging me on a fake account to harass me further and threaten to ruin my life, messaged my mom after I wouldn’t reply saying “he’s worried about me and somethings off so he’s worried I might harm myself,” texted me on his number to say he’s going to air me out and ruin my life (number was blocked but messages later appeared on another device that hadn’t caught up with blocking.) He currently has 2 valid protection orders by 2 different parties and is out of jail on good behavior unless he violates one of them again.

Do I have grounds to get my own protection order? I can clarify and provide more context as needed. Thank you.

Reasonably certain my housemate is stealing from me; what can I do?

Location: Middlesex county, Massachusetts. Using a burner just because I don't need anything linking back to me.

To give some backstory, last September I had a friend who found herself without a permanent residence as her apartment building was bought by a new owner and she no longer had a right to live there. She ended up staying in a extended stay hotel for a week but as she gets paid biweekly she didn't have the funds to extend the reservation. In the 11th hour, I talked to my elderly mother whom I take care of if she could crash with us for a night or two as she was expecting to get a loan from a friend to renew her reservation until she got paid. She agreed, and I drove over to pick her up and bring her back to our place. The friend never came through and to make a long story short, she's still residing here nearly a year later. Never paid me a dime, did it out of the kindness of my heart. But that's just to set the scene.

Late last year, my mother and I started noticing not-insignificant charges on her debit card and we went to file fraud claims on them. No biggie; they gave us the money back no problem. I figured that with it being near the holidays maybe scammers were more active, I know card skimmers are a thing, etc. Thing is, this kept happening month after month until it got to the point that her bank (a small, local chain, not a major branch bank) refused to issue any more cards to us. It should be noted that we gave the roommate access to her card on a few occasions so she could go food shopping when I was working. The charges all seemed to be from retailers that I know she frequents as well: Cumberland Farms, Shaws, CVS, etc. Once the well to my mom's account ran dry, the thief then decided to gain access to my account; around late April/early May, I notice five ATM withdrawals, all multi-hundred dollar transactions, were made at a bank literally walking distance from our apartment. I report this to my bank, but they basically said "your card was physically used, your PIN was entered, so we think you're just fucking with us so we're not refunding the $1300 that's been claimed as fraudulent.

I've basically known for months that it was her doing it; she had the means, the motive, the opportunity...I just couldn't catch her in the act. Until today...or so I thought. I'm in bed and notice a small piece of paper crumpled up near the comforter. I unfold it and it's a receipt from Cumberland Farms from August 10th for $8.14, store #6754. I decided to log into my banking app and check both my cards; there's a charge on my credit card for that exact amount with that store number and it processed on August 11th. I confronted her about it as I have with other instances like this and she claimed that it still wasn't her, that it must've gotten stuck to her foot, that she doesn't even go out to that area, and that she had a sleep study that night (last point verified).

Reddit, with the little bit of proof that I have, can I go to my local police department and see if they can investigate it? If not, what do you think I *can* do? Bear in mind I've already locked both my cards and changed the password to my banking app to prevent this kinda thing from happening again, so I'm just seeing what action I can actually take to get the answers I want. Thank you.

Missed an item at self checkout

Location: NC, USA

Incident: going through my receipts (confirming with bills) and just noticed one of them from Lowes (home improvement) is lower than it should've been. Looks like I missed 1 of 3 items at self checkout. The item I missed is worth approximately ~$50, so not small, and the other two items were a dollar and then $30. It has been a little over a week since this transaction took place, and I do not have the packaging since I have been using it, but I do have the item number (from their site) along with the receipt. How can I fix this?

my gut is saying to call in the morning or just walk in, tell them I saw on teh receipt I missed the item and id like to pay, and just fix that. The last thing I want is to just hope they dont notice and then receive some kind of summons or warrant. I also want a clear conscience. Is this a good idea or will they trespass me or something?

Edit to add: the transaction was on august 23rd, I have not heard anything from them or anybody else.

Signed a lease with an impossible clause. Landlord's fix is charging me $75/mo. Can I get my $1,425 back?

[AZ] Told to open a water account that doesn't exist. Paid a month's rent to hold the place. Move-in is Monday

Location: Arizona, Yavapai County.

Figures below are rounded and slightly altered for privacy, but the proportions are accurate.

Timeline:

Aug 11, mid-morning. Leasing agent emails our approval with an itemized monthly breakdown: base rent $1,350, admin fee $27, resident benefit package $70, total $1,447/mo. Utilities line reads "No Exceptions. All utilities to be turned on in the resident's name for the entire lease term." No utility charge listed anywhere.

About an hour later. We sign their "Earnest Money Holding Agreement" and pay $1,350 through the tenant portal. That agreement says in bold highlight that if the applicant cancels for any reason, the earnest money is forfeited.

Minutes after our payment. Same agent emails a list of utility accounts we're required to put in our name before move-in, naming the electric company, the gas company, and the town water utility with its phone number. Says we'll need to show proof utilities are on before we get move-in instructions.

Aug 11 through Aug 24. We repeatedly ask for the lease, telling them in writing we need it to set up utilities. Our agent leaves the company. Lease finally arrives Aug 24, eleven days before the start date. We sign it. It contains the same "No Exceptions, all utilities in resident's name" clause.

Late Aug. We apply for water. The town rejects it: units A and B of the duplex share a single meter and cannot be separately billed.

We report this. New property manager replies "I have notes in the property that water is separate," then "water is separate we need to have it under your name," then "without the utilities confirmations we will not be able to grant you access to the property."

She later confirms with the town that there's one meter, and sends an addendum adding a flat $70/mo for water and sewer, taking us from $1,447 to $1,517.

We have not signed the addendum, have not taken possession, and have paid nothing beyond the initial $1,350. The remaining move-in balance of roughly $3,200 is due Monday.

We sent a written request for a mutual release with return of the $1,350. Their handbook sets a lease break fee of 2.5 months' rent plus security deposit.

Questions:

  1. Does a lease clause requiring all utilities in the tenant's name have any effect when the utility provider will not open an account for the unit?

  2. Their forfeiture clause is triggered when "the tenant applicant cancels." We signed; they're the ones proposing to change the deal after execution. Does declining a post-signing modification count as cancelling?

  3. Their holding agreement says earnest money is credited only after possession is taken by (1) signing the lease, (2) turning on all applicable utilities, (3) getting keys, (4) moving in. Step 2 is impossible here. Does that matter?

  4. If we walk, what's realistic exposure beyond the forfeited hold on a unit that was never occupied and can be re-rented immediately? Does Arizona's mitigation requirement limit them?

We have every email, text, and document. Consult with a local attorney scheduled. Mainly want to know if we're missing something before Monday.

Landlord Tenant Housing Rent

Location: NYC
When i first moved into my apt i played first and last months rent $4000 plus $1000 security deposit. Fast forward to my lease ending in June, I payed the last months rent $2750, completely oblivious to those initial payments. I did ask chat what to do, suggestions were write 2 letters, sent via postal services and start the court process. Honestly, I’m not sure how to even find the landlords mailing address. Second, I discovered that they were taking more than the amount I paid monthly … does this open up another can of worms?? I don’t have any money for a lawyer, help with my next steps??

Computer and Internet Can a private college/university in MN, USA hold you responsible for someone else's actions on your school email account, even if they exceeded what you authorized?

Looking for insight from anyone with IT policy, higher-ed conduct, or legal background.

Situation: I gave a family member limited access to my school email account for one specific task (helping communicate with school administration about a financial matter, and submitting a form if needed). Without my knowledge, they used that access to do something completely outside what I authorized : in this case, submitting job applications outside college with false information under my name. I didn't find out until weeks later, and I have written admissions from that person confirming they did this without my permission and that they also locked me out of the account during that time, which is part of why I never responded to the school's outreach.

The school's disciplinary policy includes a rule against "knowingly furnishing false information to the college with intent to deceive," and I've been found responsible for that, plus a separate "non-compliance" violation for missing conduct meetings I didn't know were scheduled (because I was locked out of my school email by my family member).

I informed the dean about this whole situation and now The dean's response has essentially been: "you're responsible for your account and for the actions of anyone you gave access to."

Questions:

Is that "you're responsible regardless" standard typical/enforceable in school IT/conduct policy, even when a policy has "knowingly" and "intent" as required elements?

Does it matter legally or procedurally that the access granted was explicitly limited in scope, and the person exceeded it?
