Teaching Second/Third Languages in School

Are there any school districts here that start other languages before 8th grade?

Southern Lehigh School District and Saucon Valley have Spanish Immersion programs starting in 1st grade. SL’s program is nearly 40 years old. SV just started theirs.

Thanks for the info! How do they rank with other academics overall and anyone have firsthand account of their child's experience there?

The only other districts I know to compare to are East Penn and Parkland.

Southern Lehigh is ranked 64 and Saucon valley 66 in PA. If you’re looking for quality of program, Southern Lehigh is leaps and bounds better.

Saucon Valley SIP starts in Kindergarten now. I believe this is the 6th year of the program. We’ve had a good experience with it so far and really like the school district overall.

Moravian Academy has an immersion program starting in K.

Allentown starts Spanish and Arabic in 6th grade

I remember in 6th grade (over 25 years ago), we had short classes of French, Spanish, and German. Since I have a German last name, I chose that for 7th - 12th grades. Got to go to Germany for three weeks. I even took Latin in 12th grade.

They should keep their focus on spanish exclusively.
