This. Anyone can just play the songs they listened to when they were in high school or younger at any time, but they miss the youthfulness and relative freedom and exuberance they had at the time.

The recorded music might be accessible, but certain scenes are gone. I miss scenes that are gone. Listening to recordings or people cosplaying older scenes isn’t the same as when you’re an active part of them being developed in real time.

Music is more than just a finished product you consume for entertainment, it’s a social practice that’s dependent on time and place. Unfortunately lots of people are losing this sense as music becomes perceived more like generic “content”, or subcultures as primarily fashion-based.

That being said, there are always new scenes emerging to become a part of, I’m not trying to be a total downer; but there’s nothing wrong with being nostalgic for the ones that are gone, dead, or unrecognizable, because that’s inevitable for every scene.

I mean, while people don't express it well or think things through (hence the existence of the sub) I do think it's more than that. People miss certain things being easily accessible, or the sub cultures around them, or the way those things were interacted with at a specific moment in time.

Of course I don't want to make everyone dress like it's 1878 just because I enjoy it. (and I DEFINITELY would not want to live back then!) But damn, what I love to be able to go to a fabric store and choose from like 50 different types of wool in more weights than you could possibly imagine, up to an including lightweight gauze. nowadays you're lucky if there's even a fabric store anywhere near you, even luckier if it has wool, and possibly fortunate if there's anything besides plasticky suiting and heavyweight for coats.

I can make all of the Victorian-inspired clothing that I want, but I can't re-create (more ethical versions of) systems that made that clothing easily accessible.

Currently Fortnite Chapter 1's original game is currently unplayable in it's original state.

And like the only server revival actually trying to make it playable with authenticity is in testing and gets like 2-5 players average atm.

.....so i guess by technicality yeah... but a technicality is very dense

Not like restaurants though. Their mostly overpriced low quality crap and usually just some fucking chain now. Even the chains i liked had a huge reductionin quality and increasein price. It is legitimately harder to get decent priced quality meal.

Innout is the only one I could think of that didn't shit the bed.

Also the fact that there are musicians out there who still make old music. Just because its not popular anymore doesnt mean it fell off the face of the Earth. People who complain about trending music obviously havent dedicated any time to discovering new music for themselves. I cant imagine being a music fan and not seeking new artists out constantly. I cant imagine listening to the same songs for years like older people typically do. Maybe its because music is so much easier to discover now, but still.

I’ve been listening to the same artists since I was a kid. I just add new ones to the very long collection. If I miss something, I do what he said and just go listen to it. I’ll randomly play the Harlem Shake by Bauuer just cuz it reminds me of middle school and it’s a fun song but it’s not in my library

Easiest answer I got is that these people are huge fucking losers and wish they could go back to when mom and dad did everything for them while they watched blues clues. It’s disgusting.
