Why I don't send my CV to agencies

  1. A real company posts a job offer on LinkedIn.

  2. Immediately, agencies start posting the same offer many times. As a result, the original offer becomes inaccessible.

  3. Agencies begin interviewing candidates. As a result, the same candidate may end up doing the same technical tests and interviews for the same company.

  4. Agencies contact the original company and try to sell them a list of candidates.

  5. The company may reject them. As a result, the candidates have done interviews and technical tests for nothing.

  6. The company may accept, but will only keep, in the best-case scenario, one candidate. As a result, most candidates have wasted their time doing interviews and technical tests.

Verdict: the agencies win, the candidates lose.

job search Scam through Linkedin?

I am happily retired and my Linkedin page mentions that. I occasionally get inquiries, but they are generic and I don't respond. But, recently, I received an inquiry from a recruiter using my last two jobs as a perfect fit for a new position. When I asked for a formal job description, it quoted the need for a technical degree referencing my Earth Science background. The simple description also listed a salary range of $200-240K. That seemed unusually generous, so I Googled the recruiter's name and the only hit was her Linkedin history through 2019. She also used a simple Google account, not a corporate website. When I questioned this, she said she's actually working for a subcontractor and offered their email address. Google did not find any hits for that secondary company. When they asked $300 to clean up my resume, I walked away.

Has anybody else had a similar experience? If so, how do they get rewarded and how do I get scammed?

It’s the same client and they won’t stop calling me

They’re constantly calling me to do an interview. And it’s the same client! I know because I already interviewed with them and the client rejected me, because they wanted someone who would be in the office three days a week. And I work remotely.

Why do they keep insisting? Damn agencies. Stop muddying everything up! I don’t want you making business out of my time. I won’t allow it. Stop scamming us!

Follow up?

Okay, I need some outside opinions because I’m overthinking this.
There’s a person on linkedin whose career path is really relevant to the direction I’m interested in professionally.
We connected around 2–3 months ago but we’ve never actually interacted. I don’t post on linkedin, so there hasn’t really been an opportunity for them to interact with my content either.
A few days ago, I finally decided to message them. I sent it on saturday and it’s now wednesday. My message was roughly:
“Hey XX, hope you’re doing well :) We connected a while ago and I realized I never actually said hi haha. I was curious, what made you want to move from YY into ZZ?”
It wasn’t a long message or anything.
About an hour after I sent it, they viewed my profile. And that was it. No reply so far. Now I’m wondering:
Did I do something wrong with the message?
Should I send a follow-up eventually or just leave it alone? If I should follow up, what would you actually say without making it awkward or seeming pushy?

Commenting on Spouse Update

Alright I’m gonna ask here because I’m curious. Is it weird if my wife posts that she got a new job, and I comment on it? In real life, I of course tell her how proud I am and how awesome she is, but on LinkedIn it just feels weird. We were talking about it and she said I’m weird on LinkedIn. I think I’m just following unwritten rules. In reality I have no idea if I’m off or if she’s off, thoughts? Would it be weird? We have the same last name so I feel like it comes off as brown nosing.

LI Back At It -- Seeing AI Job Search Again

LinkedIn has resumed its "new AI Job Search" as of a few hours ago. It is still propagating as page refreshes are pulling up both for me right now. Hoping we can use this post as a running repository for latest experiences with this deeply troubled new functionality. For now, my bookmarks still work and I will keep using them, but who knows how long they'll remain intact.

To LinkedIn >> Hard to imagine you have exorcised all of the demons/inadequacies of your new AI job search already, but I hope for your sake that you did. Otherwise, hell will break loose here all over again...

ETA-2: [[Sigh]] New verbiage on the classic page now reads, "We’re gradually retiring classic job search starting in September. Try AI-powered job search and describe the role you want in your own words."

!Hey LinkedIn! -- Before you retire anything, please make sure you have addressed and *totally resolved* everything that was reported to you in your recent thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/linkedin/comments/1vsyksl/comment/p4vk2yr/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

ETA-1: On the new page, there is a drop down called Learn More where they have provided the option to use Classic. I really, really hope they keep that dropdown intact for the foreseeable future.

For the notifications that say, “You got an invite. So-and-so finished Zip.” Are those people actually sending you invites, or is it coming from LinkedIn itself?

Is anyone using for TeamLink outside of sales?

I'm a data analyst on a business development team and I'm doing some research on LinkedIn SalesNavigator/TeamLink. I was wondering if anyone is using it for purposes other than sales leads. I work with a team that hosts webinars and events for attorneys, clients, and prospective clients. I want to consider TeamLink as a tool for warm introductions/invites to the events. Attorneys are terrible at providing contacts that they made at events so we can track ROI, and TeamLink sounds like it might be an interesting way to move in the right direction.

Is anyone using it in a way similar to that?

Repurposing Blogs on LinkedIn

My company publishes two blogs weekly for our two main verticals. I've been tasked with transferring these articles over to LinkedIn, and I was wondering what the best approach for this is. Are company pages or individual ones better? Additionally, I've heard LinkedIn punishes you for reposting identical content from other websites, and similarly punishes content that directs users off of LinkedIn, so identical posts or prologues are also something I'm hesitant about. I want to bolster our article presence on LinkedIn, but I want to do it right while also not creating a entire other feed to manage. Interested to hear the community's thoughts on this. Thanks!

privacy and security Q re replacing a locked account

If a fella had his long-standing account locked for refusing to provide photo-ID, can he reopen it years later with some changes so that the bio is not a duplicate? I was a member in good standing for some 20 years and quite frankly never found value in Linkedin.

However, I am now applying for a volunteer position with an NGO and it's asking for my Linkedin and other social media accounts. I don't have any social media accounts other than my reddit one which hides my posting history.

linkedin 101 Does the video feed still exist?

I can see that there used to be a video feed with short form content. However, I don’t have the button on my mobile app. I saw some posts today on LinkedIn of people complaining about the feature. Is there any way for me to enable it? Thank you!

job search I have a theory on why linkedin became shit

Linkedin wasn't all that bad before. I was able to set up filters for companies and get daily notifications. My occasional post also got a lot of engagement even though that was not my objective. But lately I can't help but wonder that Linkedin is slowly turning into a dating site.

The pricing they do is extremely similar to dating sites: you are limited to searching only a few profiles a day and if you want to contact people or the hiring manager outside your network you gotta pay up.

So I think, and this is just speculation, linkedin hired folks from who had success with dating sites, and are now running it like one. I can't think of any other explanation because in this business model, only a few lucky job seekers get the most job offers and the rest of are just chumps paying up for premium.

Linked trolling

I'm trolling so hard on LinkedIn it is so fun now I said I would buy the 150th profile viewer steak dinner but I didn't say where it was from.

I'm open to ideas if you guys have any suggestions where I should get this person steak dinner from I'm thinking cracker barrel.
