Reminds me of my auntie who buys a 15in macbook pro just to watch youtube and go on facebook. Doesn’t even have an iCloud subscription.
I tried to recommend her other brands for her use case, but she still wants apple

Who buys them? I've dumpster dived all my personal computers since using Puppy to resuscitate a cast off company laptop in 2003.
Unless we count the Raspberry Pi that I played with for a while during COVID, The last computer I bought was a Gateway back around 1995.

3-4 years old is my sweet spot and age it to 10 years myself. 10 years, I worry about parts and batteries and how to get new ones.
I was looking at refurb Dell Latitudes 7-series on eBay, $500 for a loaded machine that will last a decade on Linux. Who the hell is buying new hardware today, it's insane.

That's what I have been doing the entire last week. I feel the speed of Linux (Ubuntu). 🔥

I bought a cheap HP laptop for about $150 for my last overseas trip. It was almost unusable with Windows and there was almost no free space at all on the laptop's drive. I wiped the laptop and installed Ubuntu. The laptop runs so much better with Ubuntu and uses less than 1/2 what Windows did.

My MacBook broke, so I bought a used Thinkpad, that cost less than the repair of the MacBook, and it is running superb

Reapply the therman paste or Thermal Pad cause after 10 years its getting hot under the hood.
