Hello, I was wondering if Lenovo Yoga Pro 7i Gen 11 supports linux. Specifically how is the nvidia GPU? Does hybrid gpu work (activate dedicated gpu only when needed)? How is battery life?

Found this old system running, currently has Void Linux installed on it. Specs:

• CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2160 @ 1.8GHz
• Motherboard: Intel 945GC (PI945GCM)
• RAM: 963MB
• GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE
• Currently running Void Linux

Not looking for server/homelab suggestions, already have a server for that. Curious what else could be done with something this old and low-spec. Open to ideas.

I'm new to Linux and currently learning to use Ubuntu 26.04. I'm trying to set the smart shift on mx master 3 to a) if the application have tabs, close the current tab (ctrl + W). b) if the application doesnt have tabs, close the application (alt+f4). I've been following AI instructions to do the first part, but havent had any success. here's what I've done 1) change key/button diversion for smartshift to diverted. 2) add it in rule editor, Key Smart Shift (00C4) pressed, Key press Control_L + W. but it didnt work, 3) edit YAML with Key: [Smart Shift, pressed] KeyPress: [Control_L, w]. again, didnt work

What's the best laptop right now for installing Linux and maximising it to one charge per day, something like 6 to 8 hours of moderate use with docker, IDEs and that kind of stuff running?

Totally new to this but I did some research and I land upon a few routes as far as I can tell right now. Been looking around and checking out what people has been doing recently and eyeballing second hand devices. I personally have a razorblade 16 with me so I'm not gonna bother playing games on this device, the goal is a highly mobile device that I can take with me on the move for work.

• macbook air or pro, 13" or 14", m1 or m2 or soon m3 as asahi announced, I know any linux on it is going to drain a bit more power on it, but I hate macOS as much as windows thus we know what to try out next. I'm hoping It'll probably be 6 to 8 hours of real use battery. So I need your thoughts and if it is really a big tax on the battery. (I'm leaning on trying out m1 pro 14" cuz they have higher ram options)
• or take the compromise of using older generations of thinkpad, x1 carbon, T14s or T14 which will have less battery hours, I'm thinking potentially 4 to 6 hours could be less... and it definitely differ by generations and cpu chip, more importantly most of my locally sourced second hands are old power hungry intels, 11th to 13th gen cpu.
• or is this simply not viable and macbook with macOS is the only way.

If any of you have those setup or you have a different solution please let me know what your model is and how well it behave.

I have a 15.6" HP 255R G10 with a Ryzen 3 7335U, currently running Linux Mint 22.3 on kernel version 7.0. I have a very specific issue with the integrated microphone. In theory, it should work and be detected by the kernel because it recognizes the Realtek ALC236 chip, but after doing some troubleshooting with Gemini AI, we came to the conclusion that the BIOS pin mapping is incorrect. Is there any way to fix this with a driver or patch?

I'm considering going freelance as a web developer, and need a new laptop.

My last work provided me with an M4 Pro (14", 24Gb Ram) which I really liked, but I can't justify buying a new Mac since I won't benefit from the Apple ecosystem. Plus I'd like to be able to customize it a bit.

So I'm now looking for something similar performance-wise, and of course fully Linux compatible. I don't mind not having the best battery ever. I liked the comfort from the 24Gb the Mac gave me so I'm looking for this at a minimum.

Do you believe a 2k€ price tag is possible? I'm considering refurbished if it's from a trusted seller that can ship to France.

Need a tablet for work. Maybe a little web browsing will be done, but almost 100% for opening/signing PDFs & such, viewing some MP4s & similar. Apparently Fedora is one of the better distros for this, but probably almost anyone on this subreddit knows better than me on that front.

Hi guys, I'm a musician looking to switch to linux (planning on trying out ubuntu studio). I'm looking for something affordable but functional. I have very little computer knowledge so I don't know much about different processors etc. I'd prefer to buy used for sustainability (and budget) reasons. I am a student (with back pain) so I would love if it was on the more lightweight side but I know I can't have it all so I'm flexible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Looking a both. I was heavily leaning towards the T470 but I recently saw that used X1 Carbon 5th Gens from the same year tend to be cheap. However, I quickly discovered why as the RAM on the X1 is soldered to the board and can't be replaced.

Would a X1 Carbon with 16GB be good as an Ubuntu machine in 2026? Or should I just pay the slightly extra for a T470 and do the full upgrade (Backlight Keyboard, 32GB of Ram, 1TB SSD), etc. I also know the T470 has the WWAN slot that can be used for a second SSD.

I love tinkering so I'm leaning towards the T470 but at my old job we used newer Gen X1s and I loved the feel of them. One of the best computers I have ever used from an ergonomics/industrial design standpoint.

I’m looking for a new laptop that I’ll use mainly for Linux with Windows 11 on the side for occasional stuff. I don’t game, no 3D, nothing heavy. Just some light photo editing, and now and then a small video edit. The rest is the usual: multitasking, browser, Office, a bit of development, some VM’s and text LLM work.

This laptop will replace my desktops and run with an external screen. I work almost always at home, so silence matters more than weight.

I’m trying to figure out what hardware actually makes sense for my use. Things like dual NVMe, dGPU or not, Coreboot, and what kind of CPU is worth it? Also curious whether a commercial brand or a Linux‑focused machine.

Any advice on CPU, storage, iGPU/dGPU, firmware and thermals is welcome.

There's a confirmed Linux kernel regression affecting older AMD graphics cards (such as Tonga R9 380, Polaris RX 400/500, etc.). When the system suspends, the video signal fails to re-initialize upon resume, leaving a black screen or garbled display that forces a hard reboot.

The bug report is officially marked as Confirmed on Launchpad and assigned to maintainer Timo Aaltonen. We've reached 206 Bug Heat points and 42 affected users, but additional user confirmations give the report more weight, pushing for an official backported fix in LTS kernel updates.
