he's a youtuber from switzerland who makes videos trying different types of software and stuff, he made a few videos trying linux two years ago and now there's a bunch of linux youtubers copying his style bar for bar for some reason

Yeah, him! Content-vise he's not bad, but also not super in depth (I mean for newcomers it's ok, also once you start watching YouTubeers that dig Linux deep, it gets, like, really weird)

the good thing about modern internet is that if you can read, you can do nigh anything. That said if ur doing something that doesn't have a man page, you probably don't need help anyways

While Guix is not glazed when it has so many useful features as a full system or just a package manager lol, usually offshoots would be glazed but not Guix :(

Speaking of YouTubers, Switch And Click isn't strictly a Linux YouTuber but I was interested in the channel after watching the couch keyboard video. She has several videos on Linux, actually. Then she uploaded a video on Omarchy like seemingly everyone else has, even the video description put it like it was a better way to install Arch
And like this generation would put it, I went 🥀🥀🥀😔😔😔 and lost all interest in the channel, I didn't even give the video a chance, I just assumed that it was like the rest of Omarchy videos on the platform
Whilst we're on the topic of couch keyboards, you don't need one... just install KDE Connect and use your phone as a remote :)

Switch and click is a keyboard reviewer who found herself using Linux. She is not a Linux expert and I doubt she intended that, so obviously she is going to look into what a normal person cares about (ease of use, good gui .etc) and most people don't care about the bloat of omarchy.

yeah, they annoy me so much. i get whiplash from their tech-of-the-day-you-have-to-use. and always so much shallow incorrect information, they really don't research very well.

Watching Bog sometimes is absolutely insufferable and insulting. One time, the error message was specifically formatted to cause attention, it said to ssh through a specific port in plain English. Mind you, he has already done the SSH port thing, and knows how to do it. He then starts googling random stuff linked to ssh for a couple of hours and never reads the error message.

Sometimes it actually hurts watching him do anything Linux related, like just only use Ubuntu, since you can’t be bother to learn NixOS, or cosmic
Plus he always compares the big 2 DEs with their proprietary equivalent, which yeah, they look like them at first, but trust me, they are more than clones, hell gnome is NOT macOS even
Oh and those two things I said at the start? Like how can you not bother to look into how a distro works and how to install a package the intended way? I mean, it’s not necessary, but if you’re gonna use nix, actually show nix
There was even a point where he installed an x86 app image of helium, and despite saying that the architecture type is wrong, guess what? He tried to continue anyway. He’s even a Mac user, so the only distro he COULD use is Asahi, COULD, cause I know he wouldn’t
Some of his claims are very surface level though, says that CachyOS is faster, but compared to Artix, which is what I’m currently using, with normal packages, the difference may aswell be a few edge cases on full AMD
Ramblings aside, he is literally what I imagine how a normie would use and think of Linux. There’s no shame in that, and I sound a lot angrier than I am, I’m just upset that he tries so hard to look smart, but doesn’t even try to hide it well

I'm always confuesed about this.
Do the Linux community want other people to use Linux or not?
Because everyone who tries to bring Linux to the general public gets executed by the community.
(Be Linus Tech Tips, DHH with Omarchy, Valve with SteamOS, etc...)

Tbh, I don't use ChatGPT, but if I'm pasting an error into search, or just search whatever I need to do, if there's an AI answer from whatever the search engine I use at the time... I'll look into it... Obviously, I'm not gonna type "yes, do as I say in the terminal" and will generally look at what it tells me to do, but it's really hard to deny that it made it easier to search for the information you need.
Sometimes, pre-AI Google's algorithmic answers were also fine, but not always
