So i did a stupid thing which i dont even know why i did while decreasing my partition so i could put some gigabytes on a separate smaller windows partition I did the stupid thing and x’ed out of gparted while it said something like ‘moving partition x to the left and copying x amount of gigabyte’ I don’t really remember what it said but it was something along those lines. Now I’m guessing it’s over so I just wanted to know if there is anything I can still do or should do at this point.

Partition move or resize events cannot be canceled in general... If you did that the information is likely lost and would require something like TestDisk if the partition was unencrypted to recover the files which can take days sometimes to recovery stuff... if it was encrypted then the chances of recovery are literally zero.

Best best is likely just reinstall, move on and learn from this event.

If it is not too much capacity, maybe whatever files you care about are safe, try to boot from USB in live environment, do not install, just use the DE from USB and open file manager and select internal drive on the left, check if the files you want saved are fine and make backup to external storage. After that..reinstall, idk how you could save it otherwise, there is too much randomness. Maybe more advanced recovery tools can find a buffer saved somewhere, idk and restore it but that would mean taking the drive to a specialist in data recovery. For future reference make backups before using partitioning tools, changing the partitions after installation can take some time.

You can upload image from sites like imgbb, no account required, go to the site, click upload, select image from internal drive and click upload again, when finished it will provide a link to copy (note images uploaded without an account may or may not be hosted for more than a few days and most sites require premium account for hosting a lot of images, so do not use free services to archive images or files in general).

Oof, hope you had backups or have cash, interrupting a partition move usually requires professional data recovery.

use testdisk to recover if still possible.

But now, turn off the computer as any change on the storage can render recovery impossible.

Also provide an external storage at least as big as the one you want to recover
