Rule of thumb for Linux: Forget EVERYTHING you know about Windows!!!

Things work differently in Linux. To search for or install software, you don't need a browser or a search engine.

In the (Start) menu, you’ll find the Software Manager on the left side. It’s been around in Linux since before the first iPhone was even released. Apple’s App Store and Microsoft’s Windows Store work similarly. On Linux, however, it's not called ...store, because technically there's no way to buy anything.

The Software Manager has categories. These categories correspond to those in the menu. After installing software, it will appear in the menu. It’s ALWAYS neatly organized. Of course, the Software Manager also includes a search bar that you can use to search for software.

Unfortunately, the internet is far too buggy, which is why you should install software from secure, tested repositories.

Here everything is explained much better.

Laptop or Desktop, LMDE7 or Linux Mint? CPU make model type, more info is needed to try and help you. I have a new Dell XPS 13 2026 model, and have to use the firmware-sof-signed and alsa-ucm-conf packages in Debian Forky to get sound to work. So you could just be missing some firmware or other package that your sound card needs.
