Second Schlage This Week
Hey, I guess I might be getting a little better at this because Schlage keyways have been my nemesis since I started, but this is my second one this week! I bet nobody can guess why I didn’t post about the first one! 😝 They’ve honestly become kinda fun now! They operate nice and smooth and always have a couple spools in them. It’s not a crazy lock, but it sure is satisfying to go back and open the locks that used to be impossible!

Nice work! Im curious if those have 1 standard & 4 spools like newer, off the shelf Schlage (brand) deadbolts... Let us know if you gut it.

I don’t know that you can actually get the core out of this model, at least not easily. Just by feel I’d say I’m about 90% sure it’s 4 spools and a standard somewhere in the back, 4 or 5. They both pick similar to an Abus. Find the gatekeeper, then spool hunt the rest. The one in the pic needs 1 of the spools moved up, or completely pre-set, before you get the false set.

Hang on, how do you bind this model? I have this on my house, and the keyway spins freely unless the correct code is entered. Even if the key is inserted it spins freely... am curious

Yeah, it’s not an easy one to tension! So, the thumb turn spins freely when the lock is secured, but the core does not spin freely within the thumb turn. In order to tension it I stabilized the thumb turn with my thumb and middle finger, and applied tension to the prybar with my index finger. When the core is turned it drops deeper into the thumb turn, as seen in my pic, which engages the thumb turn with the mechanism that rotates the deadbolt, and it no longer spins freely. I also learned that the core re-locks in this position, so I had to re-pick it to lock it back up again lol.
