Weightloss YouTuber tricked me. ☠️

1.0k Upvotes

I’ve been watching this YouTuber who lost 140 lbs videos on tips and how she lost weight. The other day in the middle of her longest video she said I couldn’t ever lose weight so I started glp-1s which I don’t disclose because people say I took the easy way out and I finally lost all the weight and I’m like??? So if you were doing all of this stuff and not losing weight does it even work?? Do I need a glp1 like you? Just to clarify I’m not anti glp1 it just rubs me the wrong way to be misleading.

Edit: I didn’t expect this to blow up so I won’t be responding to y’all but thanks for the comments for me to read later 😳

I want to lose 45 pounds before my birthday safely

My birthday is in the first week of february, so really, this goal is aimed towards february 1st, but I really want to lose about 45 lbs. (eventually, i want to lose more, this isn’t my final goal by any means)

So far, i’ve managed to lose 30 lbs since april, but my autoimmune disease flared really bad, i’ve been swapped around on a lot of medications which helped me gain most of that back. I also started a job at a chick fil a, and where i’m getting about 10k+ steps a day just from work alone, I found myself ordering quick and easy things such as mac and fried chicken sandwiches. So I know I have let go a bit in that department too!!

Currently standing in at 245lbs as a 5’8, 24yo f.

Do we think it’s possible to lose 45 lbs by February safely? And how does everyone keep strong during the holidays? I am nervous about that!

We don’t have a fridge or microwave to bring our own food to work, but I did get some thermos containers so I can maybe bring some fruits or cottage cheese or something. Tempted to get a few more and maybe a small lunch box??

Any tips or advice or encouragement would be amazing! I can lose the weight at first but it ALWAYS comes back. I don’t want to go into 25 this overweight and sick all the time!

Edit: forgot to mention that last feb I started in at 267lbs!

Has anyone kept weight off for 5+ years?

What the title says. I read that statistically regain happens within 5 years, and that most people who lose weight will regain.

If this happened to you, how much did you regain and why do you think that was? Are you happy with where you are now?

If you've successfully kept weight off.....how did you do it? Is regaining still a fear, or when did you start trusting yourself?

I lost 50lbs once before and slowly gained 70. Now I'm losing weight again, determined for this time to be different. There are things I need to do in my life that I can't do if I regain the weight (surgery results, certain outdoor activities, etc.)

Not Recognized at My PCP’s Office

Hello Everyone! I haven’t been into my primary care physician‘s (Dr C) office for a few months and the few last times his assistant Rachel was off or helping other patients, and hadn’t seen me for 6 months. This morning I’m at the office and Rachel is calling me and looking past me and then she realizes the skinny guy with the black pork pie hat smiling back at her is lighter version she hadn’t seen for awhile. She remarked how great I look and I confirmed I had lab results that confirmed it. This morning’s weigh in has me at 204.6 lbs. Dr C agreed that I’m doing good. The validation is nice but at a point where I am getting used to the lighter version of me. My loose skin has become a badge of honor. I‘m going to try to focus on building muscle and strength. So, I’ll be ignoring the scales for a bit.

I actually like it when people comment on my weight loss

First, I want to acknowledge everyone is different. But me personally, in 7 months i lost 55 pounds, from 230 to 175 pounds at 5 feet 8 and actually appreciate it when people make comments about my weight loss.

I've read other people on here take it as insult cause it insinuated that they weren't attractive before, but i dont take it that way. I take it as acknowledgement of the hard work I put in to lose the weight, cause it was ALOT of work.

Also, I know i didnt look good before. I dont have any delusion that at 230 pounds, I was fat and not considered conventionally attractive. Even at 175 pound, I think i look ok but wouldn't say ive hit attractive level yet.

Life happens, so does regaining.

F24 CW160 GW140. My starting weight in 2023 was 258 pounds. In febuary of this year I hit 143. It has been an absolute shit show of a 12 months, and in the midst of it 3 pounds from my goal, I totally starting getting loose at the seams after months of upheaval after upheaval after upheaval.

This time last year I was engaged, frankly, ripped as fuck, and was joining the marines. I ran a few 5ks. Felt amazing.

My ex fiance cheated on me (had been the whole time) my waivers were not approved for the marines, my car broke down twice, I left a good job to work for a friend (we are not on speaking terms, I no longer work there, and 3 of the employees from that company are planning to sue that ex friend,) got into an emotionallt abusive rebound relationship, and got kicked out 40 days before moving into my apartment and have been staying with my grandmother. I then had to deal with domestic violence from my aunt I have an OP against.

:D

So yeah, I gained 20 pounds.

I was barely holding it together in the 150 range up until August. I ate 4 Nutella sandwhiches back to back and had to catch my breath a second ago and a grip (and probably new jeans).

This Sunday I officially have lost only 99 pounds.

All this to say ? Life happens. Especially when you lose weight young. Regain is not inevitable, but it shouldnt come as a source of shame if it does happen under very unfortunate circumstances. It often doesnt come as a single fuck it moment, but a slow build up of old habits under stress. Shitting on yourself wont change yesterday and wont make getting back on track easier.

I could sit here and look in the mirror and be ashamed at all the times I have dropped the ball the last year, but especially this last month. Or I could sit back and appreciate the sheer force of will it took to only gain the bulk of that this last month and a half after fighting off 10 pounds back and forth for months.

Ive gained 20, but in this year, looking at my tracking apps, I lost 30. I lost the same 10 pounds 3 seperate times despite the absolute shit show going on. Im sure a lot of you facing regain are in the same boat.

I move into my apartment next week, I figure I will probably overeat in the insane quantities of sweets my grandmother has in her house again, and will not find it in myself to not join her for lunch again. I will probably have taco bell and a beer when I sit on the unfurnished apartment carpet that first night, and I wont workout until the week after once Im done unpacking and certainly wont hit the apartment gym until I feel a bit more strong.

And I imagine, come next febuary, once Im settled, back into my routine, and knowingly too frugal to buy junk or my binge foods into any of the places ive lived, I'll be at my goal weight, probably less ripped, but much calmer and happier and capable of maintaining what I had previously lost for a year again with far more ease.

Be easy on yourself. Dont use life as an excuse to overeat, but dont see circumstantial relapses as an excuse to hate your progress, even if it seems like its going backwards. I learned I can handle 6 major life upheavals in a year without eating to cope, and I dont look as unsightly as I thought I did the last time I weighed this.

And I know that one thing I can always do, no matter the regain, no matter how long it takes to get back on that wagon, is lose it again.

I finally broke the cycle

About a year and a half ago, I was 90kg at 5'10" and stuck in a really bad cycle. I was ordering pizza and junk food 3–4 times a day and, honestly, I didn't know how to stop.

One of the moments that really broke me was walking to work after a Coke bender. The button on my trousers popped, and I started crying. I remember thinking, how the fuck did I let myself get to this point?

Not long after, my mate was chasing me as a joke and I got completely winded. I looked in the mirror and saw my stomach and love handles moving around, and I knew I couldn't keep living like that.

So I finally decided to change.

A year and a half later, I'm 75kg and recently turned 20. I feel better than I ever have. Sometimes strangers even honk their horns or wave at me from across the street, which still feels surreal.

These days I don't do anything extreme. I follow the 80/20 rule and walk pretty much everywhere with my headphones on. It's honestly become something I really enjoy.

It's crazy looking back at where I was. If you're stuck in that cycle right now, I promise you can break it too. I never thought I could.

I just realized that my entire body (hips included) used to be smaller than my current waistline.

Upvotes

So I'm fat. I'll admit it. My BMI is currently 39.5. I've just really started my weight loss journey in June (down 15 lbs!). Two years ago I was a healthy weight. But medical weight gain from medication made me gain 100 lbs. At my smallest, my BMI was 19. And at that weight my hip and shoulder measurements were smaller than my current waistline is. My old self could literally stand inside my current waist with room to spare.

Today I finally convinced myself to take body measurements because I couldn't bring myself to do it before. I'm sure they're smaller than they were 15 lbs ago, but I have nothing to compare them to. What I can compare them to are my lowest weight measurements, which killed me. My thighs used to be smaller than my biceps currently are. Every body part used to be like half the size they are now.

I'm not sure what the point of this post is. I guess I'm just mourning my former body and feeling bad about myself. I can't imagine myself losing 115 pounds to get back to my smallest weight. It's unfathomable. I'm not giving up though. I plan to drop some weight. I'm just unhappy that it's gotten this bad. I feel like a stranger in my own body.

One month in!

I’ve lost 10 whole pounds!!! Honestly the weight loss was unbelievable! I legit had to reweigh myself just to be sure it was real lol. Tbh it is exhilarating. I thought I would never do after failing the first time. But after a breakup I think it was time, and man I feel better, like I I’m stepping into undiscovered territory!

Sorry about the yap 😅 I’m just happy! Well to explain, my goal is to lose around 60 to 80 pounds. Something like setting up goals to reach bigger one kind of thing I’m doing. And I just can’t fathom the love I have for myself now that I know I can push through this turbulent time.

I am probably gonna do monthly post if that’s ok with the mods?

But thanks everyone, for sharing your stories through your tough journeys. It really helps.

Is it worth going to gym while being in calorie deficit

I am a 20-year-old woman living in a hostel in India. I want to lose a significant amount of weight, and my BMI is 32. I am currently planning to eat around 30–35 g of protein daily. I know this isn’t a lot, but as an Indian college student living as a bachelor, it’s difficult for me to find affordable, convenient, and sufficiently high-protein foods every day.
I don’t want to lose muscle while losing weight, but I’m worried that being in a calorie deficit will affect my muscle recovery. Would going to the gym and doing resistance training still be beneficial, or would it be better to stick to brisk walking?
Please don't tell me to add protein

Has anyone else become MORE insecure after losing weight?

I’ve lost a lot of weight recently, and weirdly, it’s made me much more insecure about my appearance. When I was bigger, I actually had this “idgaf what people think” attitude. I was more sociable, less anxious, and more comfortable talking to people.

I think being fat gave me a weird kind of protective barrier. I could tell myself, “it’s because I’m fat” or “when I lose weight I’ll be hot.” I convinced myself that most of what I disliked about my face was down to fat distribution (my hooded eyes, bigger-looking nose, double chin, etc.)

Now that I’ve lost the weight, I don’t have that explanation anymore. I obviously look different and probably better in some ways, but I haven’t had the transformation I imagined. I thought losing weight would make me feel like a completely different person. Instead, I look like… me, just thinner. I haven’t suddenly become Kendall Jenner. Now I’m stuck with the thought that I’m still ugly, just skinnier.

What worries me is that I’ve realised I’m just moving the goalposts. I missed out on so many experiences because I told myself I’d do them when I was thinner. Now I’m telling myself I’ll do them when I’m prettier, get my teeth done, fix my nose, etc. It feels like there will always be something else I need to change before I can actually live my life.

I also genuinely can’t tell how I look anymore. My perception of myself feels completely unreliable. I look different in every picture, the good ones im convinced are catfish & the bad ones must be the true depiction of me. I’ll occasionally get attention from men now, but instead of enjoying it, I question whether they’re actually interested or whether they’re making fun of me. If I start to like someone, I can feel genuinely panicked and think, “they must think I’m a weird monster?”

I know losing weight was never going to magically fix my self-esteem, but I didn’t expect to feel more insecure afterwards.

Has anyone else experienced this? How did you learn to stop making your weight/appearance the prerequisite for actually living your life?

Weight loss and scarcity mindset

One of the patterns I’m trying to change is eating too much because I’m worried the food will disappear. Growing up, all the good stuff (treats, soda, even leftovers) got eaten right away as soon as we had done the shopping — and I didn’t get much, if any.

I had access to food but it was very basic, like peanut butter sandwiches. My family was pretty lower middle class.

So now, I fixate on the treats in the house and whether I’ll get “enough.” Thing is, my spouse is not an over eater and won’t steal all the treats. We can afford whatever food we want and if I ask my spouse not to eat something, he won’t.

Anyone else dealing with the same trigger? What’s your advice for growing out of a sense of scarcity?

So.... I recently got on board and started a deficit and am amazed to see it seems to be working. (Hashimotos iykyk) Anyways I have to say the secret so far seems to be that i have discovered precut frozen veggies. I can't believe I never realized how great they are. making tacos.....tons of veggies. Making lentils.....tons of veggies. I honestly feel so great now that I am eating better. Don't worry I am eating lots of protein... just excited because you can eat so much more when its veggies hahahahah

How do I let my grandparents know I'm eating healthy/dieting without them worrying?

Hi everyone! So I 19F have finally started taking care of my health. Im only 5 feet tall which is really quite short and it makes my calorie intake a little lower than someone "average height". I started tracking my calories and I've absolutely fallen in love with it. It helps me stay on track, see my macros, etc. I've actually started enjoying eating again when I know how much I've eaten

Now to the issue: my grandmother fusses over my eating. Her diet consists of foods I try and avoid on the regular that I do eat but in moderation. Such as having coffee in the afternoon and offering cake, cookies, stuff like that everytime. Eating really high-calorie foods for every meal. If I try and say I'm watching what I eat she'll get overly worried and just guilt me into eating more than what I need/want.

Now, my mother (who knows about my diet and approves knowing I do eat enough and am doing well physically) and my grandmother are going on a 2-week road trip and asked me to come with them. I know it is childish, but I dont know whether or not I want to go, because it means I have to eat without counting my calories for 2 weeks. Is there a way i could tell my grandmother I'll go with them if I can buy my own foods, instead of what she's planned? I know I do want to go, but I also know I dont want to spend 2 weeks being "off-track".

Ideal weight seems impossible

So I'm currently on a weight loss quest after gaining a lot of weight over the last couple of years. I have already lost about 20 pounds and I still have a long way to go. So I checked out the ideal weight for somebody my height and it just seems like I will never be able to maintain that weight. It just seems like way too low. For context I am female, 172cm (5'7) tall and weigh 107kg (235pounds). The Ideal weight for me according to the Internet is between 54-74kg (119-163pounds). The lowest weight I have ever been was about 163 pounds but at that time I was working out 5 times a week and ate way too little. I was only able to maintain that weight for a while because I was restricting my food intake a lot. I don't want to do that, I want to repair my relationship to food and prioritize my health. I don't see myself ever reaching my ideal weight while also eating enough. It's really discouraging.

body dysmorphia + muscle and weight

does anyone else have body dysmorphia like i do? I am 26f, very athletic and a runner (albeit being injured rn) and as a result have quite a bit of muscle. i feel like my weight doesn’t “make sense” with how i look. i’m 5’5 and probably around 135, so my bmi is around 22.5 and closer to being overweight than underweight. at this weight i have visible abs, collarbones, sternum sticking out (although to be fair i don’t have much going on in the boob department anyway). i feel like i’ve never seen anyone my height and weight who actually looks like me, and it makes me question if i am actually way bigger than i think. i know everyone’s body composition is different but i can’t help but want to lose 10-15 pounds just for the sake of the number (which is stupid, i know).

48 and ready to change

Really looking for some advice, encouragement, anything at this point. Im 48 and for the past 8 years my weight has slowly taken over. Im 5'9 went from 190, then 200, and now im at my heaviest at 236 and I cant even look at myself anymore. I saw a picture my daughter took of me yesterday and cries, I dont even look like the person I use to be. I dont eat alot, I drink my calories, 2 to 3 Starbucks ice coffees a day sometimes. When I do eat its always at night when I cant shut my mind off then its a fruit snack here, ice cream sandwhich there, a banana, then 4 cookies, etc.

I know my husband doesnt find me attractive anymore, its been years since we've well you know. Ive tried to lose weight in the past, tracking apps, fitness watches, even gone to the gym but I only feel comfortable on the treadmill, weights scare me as I have no idea what to do. Ill lose 15lb start feeling alittle confident then something will hit me, someone making a comment on my weight, being rejected again by my husband and I say whats the point.

This time im done! Im doing this for myself because I want to feel good, I want to feel desirable, for once im my life id like to turn some heads. I redownloaded the app, no drive thru coffee today, and I guess I just have to take it day by day. But ill be damned if im going to allow my weight to keep this chock hold on me!

How long until i lose this water weight? Is it even water weight?

I'm 157cm, 58kg, 32 yr old female.

I had a baby about 2 years ago. My toddler is 26 months old now. I breastfed her up until she was 2 years old. I lost around 8 kgs in these two years. I was on a deficit on and off. But when I did lock in, I'd lose 3 to 4 kgs easily. But gain a kg back etc. Anyway, I could say that it was breastfeeding helping me lose the weight quickly.

Anyway, my tdee is 1600 and I have been in a deficit of 300 cals daily for the entire month of August. Started August at 58.5kg and now I'm 58kgs. I started walking 10k steps daily at a speed of 5km/hr last month after being sedentary for a long time. I feel very bloated all the time, although I'm trying my best to eat well and stay hydrated. I've been told that when you start a new exercise, your body retains weight. 0.5kg loss in an entire month seems too slow for me, could it be water weight? And if it is, then how long does it usually take for this water weight to go down?

189cm, went from 107kg to 87kg. Should I stop cutting?

Hey guys, 31M, 189cm. Been training for around 7 years and was 100kg+ pretty much my whole adult life. Never really hated my body or anything, I just decided this year I wanted to see how I would look leaner.

Started at around 107kg and my original goal was 97kg. Got there and thought I still had quite a bit of fat to lose, so I just kept going. Now I'm around 87kg and honestly feel better than I have in years. Much leaner, more comfortable, clothes fit better etc.

The problem is now I kinda got addicted to the progress lol. Part of me wants to try 82-84kg just to see how lean I can actually get, but another part thinks 20kg is already enough and I should maintain for a while.

For guys around my height who lift, where did you decide to stop cutting? Would you maintain at 87 or push a little further?

I'm finally tired. I'll lock in to loose the weight and start the journey.

I'm tired of being made fun of, not taken seriously and being the butt of jokes. I'm tired of everyone just thinking I eat so much when I haven't actually eaten much. I'm tired of feeling said for myself. I have done some self assessments.

I have written things down that make me gain. Also some exercises which will help me despite having chronic back pain. I've been lurking here reading people's stories to inspire me.

Yesterday I spent my afternoon reading about calories. Calorie in, calorie out. About a month ago, I started with 10k steps a day. Reducing my soda intake too. I'm currently 95kg with a height of 5'8ish. My target weight is 75kg. I can do it right? I know everyone here did their best so I'll try my best too.

Weightloss slowed significantly and then a plateau for 2 and a half weeks and not sure why?

I'll try and be as concise and to the point as possible :)

I am 26, FTM (on hrt for just shy of a year), I'm 5"7, and I weigh 83kg. I am disabled so sedentary.

I started at 110kg in January, lost very slowly eating 1500 for a couple of months, decreased to 1400 and lost slightly faster but still only about 0.5kg/week, some weeks not losing at all. I then got really sick and I couldn't eat properly so was averaging 800kcals a day for maybe around 2 and a half months. In this time I dropped all the way down to 86kg.

I've slowly been able to eat more so have been increasing my intake. At first I was gaining slightly on 1000-1200kcals a day but it eventually evened off and I started losing very slowly again at the end of June. At this point I was eating between 1200 and 1300kcals a day. I stopped regularly weighing myself because it was really stressful, but I would check every 2 or 3 weeks and was losing like 1kg each time, down to where I am now, 83kg.

I have been eating 1300kcals a day since then and I just weighed myself this morning and I weigh the same - so from August 14th until now I've not lost any weight. I had one week in the middle when my friend came to stay and I went over my allotted calories but it still should have been a slight deficit if I've calculated my TDEE right (I ended up 1280 over for the week - so an average of 182kcals over a day, 1482 per day on average). I also had flu last week where I was under by 245, and the two weeks before my friend came I was under by 489 and 326 respectively.

I don't understand how I've not lost anything at all in that time! I know bodies can't defy physics so I'm genuinely stumped.

In terms of diet - I weigh every single thing I eat with the exception of: lemon/lime juice (like, squeezed onto food, not as a drink), squash (the drink - in the UK this is sugar free), herbs/spices (obviously unless they have sugar in the blend, and I do count stock powder), and medication (vegan omega 3/6/9 and a probiotic gummy - there aren't calories listed on the bottles so I don't know how to track them. Everything else I take is just a pill so I don't think they have calories, but I might be wrong?).

I usually weigh soy/oat milk (the only liquid calories I really have) as I don't have a good measuring jug and weighing should over rather than underestimate the volume as water is 1g/ml and milk is slightly heavier. I'm vegan and I can't eat gluten because it makes me sick, although I don't really think that's relevant - just covering my bases.

I've had takeout twice in that time period - once from somewhere where the nutritional information is available as it's a chain, and once where it's not available and I estimated it based on other restaurants. I make everything else I eat (usually things just like fruit and crackers etc. because I still get pretty bad nausea).

What blind spots do I have? What am I doing wrong? feel free to rip me to shreds in the comments. I feel like a horrible freak and I am genuinely really scared and anxious about this.

Am I doing this right?

Female age 67. Currently 4’ 11” and shrinking. SW 163, CW 147, Goal -130. Probably pretty sedentary. I’ve had both knees replaced, and have had 3 vertebrae fractures in the past. Began calorie deficit May 17. It appears my daily calorie level to lose weight is right around 1200-1300. That’s what I strive for. I haven’t missed that by much in any one day since I’ve started. But the scales show decreasing results in the last 3 weeks. Going on a two week road trip later this week.

Advice from the group?

Self perception 20kgs down after a break

I’ve lost 20kgs in the last year, I’ve got another 10kgs or so to go but due to travel and other commitments I’ve been on a bit of a break for around five weeks.

I’ve been maintaining - but what’s interesting is how my own self image has changed. When I got to 20kgs down I was really impressed with my achievement - I’d never lost this much before! I loved how much smaller I looked etc.

But a few weeks of maintaining and it’s like my brain has made this my new normal. I’m not particularly excited by how I look, and now all I can see is that I still have a fair bit to lose. I don’t hate how I look, but I’m not like ‘wow I don’t recognise myself’.

Also I was checking out some old photos of me over a year ago and something else shifted - I can’t believe how big I looked! That was just me for most of my life so up until recently, in my head, that was just me.

It’s so interesting what weight loss does to the brain!

Healthy Carb Alternatives/ Meal Ideas

Hi all!

I started really getting serious about finally losing this weight on 7/17. I’ve been pretty consistent (we did have a 5 day vacation and that set me back a little, but I’ve rebounded and continued to lose). As of this morning, I’m down 20 full pounds since 7/17. I’m very proud of this. (Of course, I’ve got another 80 pounds to go, but that first 20 feels great and I am starting to increase in energy and stamina all around.

That said, I am officially sick of brown rice. I could only eat half of my dinner last night because I just couldn’t stomach another bite of the rice and, unfortunately, everything was mixed together.

I’m using MFP to track calories and macros, and my goal is to have 50% carbs according to the app. I am consistently under on that number as it is, and I know that I need carbs to support all the working out I am doing.

So hit me - when you’re sick to death of rice, what else do you use to balance out your meals in a healthy way?

Any go-to meals you have to hit your macros?
