My favourite deck to draft, it doesn't come together in sealed often, but it did this time.

I have probably peaked in the format, might be time to retire.

Was ending up WR dwarfs a correct outcome for the seat? Should I have pivoted to blue since it seemed pretty open?

My win-rate seems to have steadily dropped over the course of playing HOB premier draft, and while better opponents and better drafters in the pods can explain a lot of that, I also feel like my decks have been turning out pretty dumpy as well.

Rakdos obviously gets results but was hoping to get dancing to dawn going. The blue card draw/cycling seems fine but I’m worried it lacks enough recruit/synergy. Decent removal suite in both. Really wanna get a deep run, earned all my gems and this is the last entry. (went 3-2 twice before this)

P1p1 was Dina's Guidance. But then p1p2 was Tablet of discovery.

I went for the Izzet big spells deck. It did its thing in game 1, but fizzeled after.

(Yes, I went to 18 lands. I was worried about getting screwed for the big spells. In retrospect, with 2 tablets and a hydrochanneler, that probably wasn't necessary.)

My question is, should I have stuck with golgari here? There was a decent Witherbloom deck in this draft, looking back at it. (I have a hard time passing stock up and flow state though.)

What would you have done?

Splash green? Trim a land? Play Lord of the Eagles?

Feeling like I'll need to get creative with my splashes, but I've never been good at figuring that out. My removal options are sparse across green, black, and red. I figured splashing for the useful rares was worth it.

Yes, it's bronze. Also yes, the rankings have just reset.

I'm curious to see what some folks here would have done with this pool.

There's some great players in here, and I would love to see what direction some better players than me would have taken with this pool.

I will share my own list if this get's a bit of traction, but I don't want to influence others deck selection.

I am a 60% WR player in draft, but definitely feel like sealed requires a different mindset or deck building logic that I don't quite have yet.

Looking forward to seeing what brews people might come up with that could have pushed this beyond a 2-2 result.

After nearly 250 games of HOB limited, and going down 5k gems, I've finally achieved the goal I set for myself after I got to constructed mythic very early in the season.

This draft format is really weird. Quick draft is a pool of Black/x decks and some white blue and white red.

My winrate tanked as I reached diamond, going from a comfortable 60ish to 58.

But yet, I am super happy to see it finally be achieved.

I guess everyone at this table is trying to force an unpopular archetype. I didn't even draft red/black in my first 2 packs.

Doing the LTR flashback draft and I've drafted a pretty neat Izzet spells list. No idea what the final cut should be though. Considering dropping a Flamesmith maybe?

I feel like I'm going crazy here, whatever I do I seem to go 2-1 in Vintage cube league. Out of the 30 last drafts I've done I've trophied 1, went 1-2 twice and every other draft has been a 2-1. I'm not even complaining since that adds up to a nice win % and free drafts but it's starting to feel insane. If I draft a busted deck I run into an equally busted deck running hotter and if my draft is a trainwreck I somehow highroll into two wins. I started playing cube just before the Arena powered cube released and have been trying to improve ever since and I'm having more fun than I've had playing online in a long time but would be nice to trophy once in a while. Somehow I have ended up mastering the skill of safe mediocrity and don't know how to break free. I try to be open to drafting any archetype but heavily prefer combo decks.

Had to make multiple painful cuts already (none of which were [[Bard, King of Dale]] lol). What would you cut last?

[[The Lord of the Eagles]] normally doesn't make the cut but with [[The Eagles Are Coming!]] and 3x (potentially 5x) Long Lake Nuisances it seems like a good fit

I reached rank 67 by 17 of this month. Now I'm rank 115. i thought that I would decay by 10 ranks each day and needed to play more to keep being under 250, but it turned out to be just 3 to 4 a day decay. Is this normal for every season or The hobbit is just that unpopular that caused this low decay.

Before LTR came out on arena a couple weeks ago, I’d never played the set, and I figured I’d try it out. After a couple questionable drafts with 3 or 4 wins, I ended up drafting this awesome deck that went 7-1. It was honestly one of the most fun decks I’ve built in limited, with some really intricate lines with Gandalf, The One Ring, the ring tempting, and all the deck churning I had.

First of all, let me address The One Ring. I checked on 17 lands to see its win rate and saw that it was sitting at a C+, but I don’t think that really does it justice. Obviously it’s best in a vintage cube, or any other higher power format, but I think it deserves at least a B rating. I think the reason for its C+ rating is because it’s really tricky to use. You cannot play it early unless you’ve dumped your hand, and you cannot play it when the opponent is too far ahead. Furthermore, when you do play it, you absolutely need need need to play your life. I know it sounds obvious, but your life total starts depleting quick, so you need to do whatever it takes to keep your life total high, whether it be chump blocking more liberally, or using removal sub-optimally. The card advantage it provides allows you to do that, and I think that’s what’s so hard to use about it. Not to mention getting it up to three burden counters is very scary, and the decision to tap it that third time can be a very fine line depending on the board state. Overall, it contributed to some close and fun games that I ultimately won.

Next, I want to talk about the ring tempting mechanic. I’d never really played with ring tempting before, except with Samwise in cube, but I feel like it is a strong mechanic, at least in my opinion. The first tier is already really strong, making blocking very difficult. I think the second tier is also quite strong, allowing you to churn through your deck very effectively. Then, the third tier didn’t feel too relevant since the first tier already made blocks annoying. However, once the ring was fully tempted, it felt ridiculous. I was able to do this in my deck so consistently, with multiple copies of Bilbo and Soothing of Sméagol. That, along with Gandalf, who could copy my ring tempting spells and ping the opponent for three, felt like a ridiculous combination. Bilbo felt especially strong, essentially being an unblockable 1/3 that made a treasure on combat damage.

Overall, I’ve been having a great experience with LTR so far, and although it feels a bit imbalanced, it certainly feels better to play than HOB. If anyone here hasn’t tried it out yet, I seriously recommend that you do.

Hey all, I've played MTG for about a year and I've recently gotten into limited. I've been wanting to take my game "to the next level" and I was wondering if there was any centralized resources out there that would give me a sort of path to do that. There's a ton of information out there aimed at brand new players to PT level and everything in between. I'm finding it hard to find stuff that either is advanced enough for where I'm at without being too advanced. For the latter especially, I find it hard to know if an article is talking about something important or just some high level concept that I shouldn't even care about at my level.

Ideally what I'm looking for is a list of all concepts related to limited Magic grouped by general skill level to give a general order of what should be mastered first, with resources on how to learn/practice them.

Bit of a nebulous ask, but I figured there might be something like this out there !

Beginner drafter here. I've tried drafting before but HOB is the first set where I actually wanted to learn how to do it properly.
Had several trophies in Pick 2 but overall performance was quite unsatisfying.

This particular deck looked insane to me when I drafted and still being on the draw 6 times out of 7 made the games very tight and demanding.

Things that I've learned from this sub and while playing:

• take short breaks between games
• take some time to analyze your games on 17lands if you are in doubt why you've lost
• write down mistakes and observations (I'm using a physical notepad)
• (obvious one but) knowing all the cards was a must for me: I was always expecting Settle the Wreckage, tricks like Bofur, Warg tactics
• save your removal for key threats
• watch other people play and replay trophy runs on 17lands

I totally understand why people don't like this format. Still, for a beginner (platinum) player like me it was easier to wrap my head around it. I've ended up having 58% WR in the last 10 events and, well, this achievement. Probably will take a break from it!
