Macbook Cases

Just got a new macbook neo (exciting!) and was looking into getting a case. I’ve had a case on my air for the past 6 years and haven’t had any issues with my computer itself, just replacing the case when it gets worn out (only had to replace once).

But i’ve read some things about cases being bad for the laptop. I’d love to hear why, as I ofc want to take care of my tech. I like having one less for protection reasons (though that is nice, i can be clumsy) but also because I like putting stickers on my laptop, but hate the idea of putting it straight on the laptop so I like the case being a barrier. Would love to hear any input though!

If you want to put stickers on it, it's best to put a 3m vinyl skin on it and then put the stickers over the skin; dbrand is very popular for this but Proskinz uses the same 3m vinyl as dbrand does, it's significantly cheaper but Proskinz has a rather limited selection. The skin will protect the laptop from scratches.

The case might have been the cause of the screen of your M1 Air cracking.

This is due to tight design tolerances and added pressure on the hinge and display.

OMG really??? i was so so confused how i got the little crack on my screen cause it was literally fine then randomly cracked in the corner, that would make so much sense! thank you!

Yea. That said it did take six years for it to happen to you and if you also dropped it a few times and really enjoyed the stickers maybe the case was the right move.

Also, the neo is not the wedge shape of the M1 air so there maybe there’s a bit more room for error vs the really thin top of the lid on the old one.

Point is, whatever you do be intentional about and go in eyes open.

I use cover case

display protector film

keyboard cover

on my Macs for years since 2016. They all well protected.
