Discussion Witcher 3

Hi,

I don’t play games other than a few exceptions, like W3, F4 or CB2077.

I’m on ugpraded m4 pro with 64gb ram.
Native Cyberpunk build works well in 4k, I thought I will get 720p max. 😹

Anyway I wonder if anyone with similar Mac has tried playing W3?

I have crossover but need to pay for newer version, although I’m waiting for black friday or something.

Just wondering if the dream of playing reworked W3 with new DLC on this machine in 1080p+ is realistic lol.

I guess “new” W3 will have way worse performance, but time will tell.

Also new W3 will be DX12 only, not sure what impact this will have.

Thanks

Edit:
Forgot to mention I only play GOG games.
Is playing W3 through GoG galaxy now even an option? (For achievements)

We're all hoping against hope that they'll shadow drop the mac version, or announce it at the upcoming apple event next week.

I don’t think they will.
Hopefully it will work ok using Crossover.

Edit:
It just hit me that it all requires Rosetta which will be gone in the future. 😰

CrossOver won’t go away because of it. They already have an ARM-native preview build that doesn’t use Rosetta at all - instead, they use FEX to translate from x86. From what I’ve seen, it looks like it’s working decently enough so far, and this is what’ll let it live on after Rosetta is gone.

That would be awesome, if it Won’t hit performance too much.
I guess I will wait for them to improve stuff and then upgrade.

Patience is king (or key?)

Witcher 3 worked great on my m4 Mac Mini when I tried it last time... On your setup it will be more better..

By great what resolution and fps do you mean?
Did you use Crossover?

And did you try to run through Galaxy or Steam or how?

Thanks

For me it worked fine...via crossover in steam at 1080p medium settings

Witcher 3 works very well:

I have M4 Max

Crossover, old whisky even still works or get sikaragur

Or heroic launcher

I have run it on all those

Have you tried “emulating” gog galaxy and installing witcher using galaxy?

Crossover works with GOG galaxy yes.

But haven’t tried that path.

You should be able to run Galaxy through a of these options - heroic / sikaragur

The reason I want that is for achievements.
I’m not a gamer but the few games I spend hundreds of hours in I like to hunt achievements lol.

Otherwise I would just download installers directly from GOG.

Thanks anyway time will tell.

I’d just use the offline installer from GOG and not bother with Galaxy.

I finished the game on crossover when I was still using an Intel Mac + 6600XT on an eGPU. And when next gen was released, I’ve since upgraded to an M2 Max and I just tested to see how it was. And sure enough, It plays very well for me at 1080p with all settings on high with d3dmetal support on crossover.

So I guess I can forget about 4k 30fps on lower settings.
how much ram do you have?

I can run CB 77 in 4k but I think it’s because I have 64GB ram which matters a lot in 4k. (Vram)

I’ve 64GB RAM too. You could probably run it at 4K. The m4 GPU is a lot faster than the M2’s.

I don’t know how it compares to M2 Max, I guess it might be better even though older vut I don’t know .

if an m4 pro could only run cyberpunk on 720p that would be messed up for sure at how bad optimized it is.

my gtx 970 can run cyberpunk and witcher 3 at high 50-60fps 1080p and its 3,9 tflops m4 pro is 8,1-8,6 tflops with 20 cores.. base ps5 has 10, so pretty close with the mac, i know its all about optimization but the hardware is there

if they wanted they could make most games run like butter on it, the pro version of macs always have a strong graphics card especially for a laptop, 10 years ago you needed a huge pc with 2x top tier nvidia cards to get that performance

Witcher 3 is available to play on GeForce Now through GOG. That would probably be your most reliable/enjoyable experience if you can swing it
