I want to share this for anyone researching APU before committing, because I wish someone had told me this before I paid the money and packed my bags.

APU markets itself heavily on "diversity" students from every corner of the world, a global campus experience. In reality, a huge chunk of the international student body barely speaks functional English, and there's very little real cross-cultural interaction happening. You're not getting the "global exposure" they sell you in the brochures.

A big part of the social scene revolves around partying and drugs. If that's not what you're there for, you end up fairly isolated, because that's the common ground a lot of people are bonding over.

Academically, it's not rigorous. Grades are easy to get, which sounds nice until you realize it means the degree doesn't actually stretch you or prepare you for much.

And here's the part that mattered most to me: job prospects. If you're not Malaysian, don't expect the internship/job pipeline to work in your favor, local companies overwhelmingly prioritize Malaysian nationals, for understandable visa/labor reasons, but nobody tells you this upfront. So you're left wondering what the entire investment was for.

On top of that, back home (Pakistan), APU isn't a name that carries much weight. Employers and other institutions tend to favor grads from more established universities. So you end up with a degree that's expensive, doesn't guarantee local (Malaysian) employment, and doesn't open doors back home either.

I left after one semester once it became clear this wasn't going to lead anywhere good for me. No regrets about leaving, just wanted to put this out there so other students go in with realistic expectations, or reconsider entirely.

Hey guys, I’m the guy who posted here earlier about getting scammed by my part-time job and selling my laptop to pay rent. Just wanted to give an update and also ask for some help.

For new people. I’m an international student in Malaysia doing my bachelor’s. My dad was initially sponsoring me and covering my expenses, but around June he started having serious financial problems because of loans and debts, so I started doing part-time work to at least manage my rent and daily expenses.

I found a night food stall near my residence and started working there on July 5th. I was promised RM8/hour and was told I’d be paid monthly. Unfortunately, on August 1st, the guy suddenly told me he was closing the stall and said he would transfer all the money he owed me. After that, his WhatsApp account got deleted and I haven’t been able to contact him. I have all the proof and documents regarding the job and payment.

I was already running out of money and my landlord had asked me to vacate. At that point I literally had around RM7 left.

Thankfully, after my previous post, I managed to find another part-time job at a food stall that pays RM6/hour. It’s not much, but at least I’m now able to manage my food and basic daily expenses.

Also, someone from my previous post was kind enough to pay for me to complete 3 of my assignments at a café, and I’m genuinely really grateful for that. It helped me a lot and I was able to get those 3 assignments done.

But I still have 3 more assignments and almost 10 tutorials left, with a lot of the deadlines coming up next week. I really need a laptop to finish everything.

I can’t really use the college computers because I work part-time at night and usually finish late. I’m only able to work on my assignments after that.

So I wanted to ask if anyone has an old/unused laptop that they could lend or rent to me for a week or two. I don’t need anything powerful at all, just something that can run Word, PowerPoint, a browser, etc. I’m willing to provide my passport/student documents or whatever reasonable proof is needed for security.

I’m honestly just trying to get through this situation and keep up with my studies. I’d really appreciate any help, whether it’s a laptop, a cheap laptop recommendation, or even information about somewhere I could borrow/rent one.

I’m staying around Seri Kembangan, so anything nearby would be really helpful.

Sorry for posting again and disturbing everyone. I genuinely didn’t think I’d end up in a situation like this. I’m just trying to survive, keep working and not fall behind in my studies. Any help would mean a lot. Thank you guys 🙏

I’m currently in my final semester of an Actuarial Science degree at a private university in Malaysia. I’m in my late 20s and my academic transcript is honestly quite bad — I’ve failed quite a few subjects throughout my degree. My university also isn't one of the more prestigious ones.

My path has been quite unconventional. I initially dropped out of my degree and worked in hotel sales for less than 2 years before returning to finish my degree, partly because I felt stuck in sales without a degree.

I actually don't hate sales. I enjoy the people-facing aspect, and I think I'm reasonably good at closing deals, following up with clients and building relationships. However, I'm not sure I want to spend my entire career in pure sales. My concern is that if I go back into sales after graduating, I may end up becoming too specialised in sales and have fewer options to pivot into other career paths later.

Now that I'm finally approaching graduation, I'm honestly quite lost about where I should start.

Given my bad CGPA/transcript, private university background, Actuarial Science degree, age, and previous sales experience, what fields or entry-level roles would you realistically recommend I target?

I'm considering things like:

Business/Data/Commercial Analyst

Operations/Business roles

Risk/Finance-related roles

Solutions/Pre-sales/Consulting

Sales, if that's actually the most practical route

I'm also willing to spend the next few months seriously building skills rather than expecting my degree alone to get me a job.

What skills are currently worth prioritising in Malaysia for someone in my position? For example, SQL, Excel, Power BI, Python, cloud, etc.

And if you were in my position, what would you do in the next 3–6 months to maximise the chances of getting a decent first job and eventually moving into a higher-paying career?

I'm especially interested in advice from people who have hired fresh graduates, changed careers themselves, or started with a weak academic record.

I'm not looking for reassurance that everything will magically be fine — I'd genuinely appreciate practical and even blunt advice on what is realistic and what I should stop wasting time on.

1) Chinese students cant speak English and do not socialize from outside their nationality

4) As an international dont expect to find job at all
5) There is some racial bias against indians ( 😬) actually felt this one a little bit

Recently I called the marketing dept regarding my application that hasn’t been receiving any response, the guy behind the phone told me that i shouldn’t be worrying about it since i have met all the minimum requirements, and that i only need to wait for the acknowledgment letter.

does that mean every applications that meet the minimum requirements are guaranteed to be accepted into UM? i’m confused, and i really needed an explanation since i’m based in Sabah and i need to plan my trip before the orientation starts.

I’m an international student currently studying Engineering at a Malaysian university (UNITEN), and I’m planning to apply to UTM for Electrical Engineering.

I meet the other academic requirements, but I’m 0.5 mark below the minimum Physics requirement for the programme.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation — slightly below the minimum requirement for one subject — and still got accepted by UTM?

I’d especially appreciate hearing from international students or anyone who applied through direct intake.

Do you think UTM strictly rejects applications that are slightly below the requirement, or is there any possibility that they consider the overall academic profile?

Does anyone have any experience with INTI's ADTP? specifically about credit transferability and such, and would taylors or sunways be better?

When does the feb/mar intake usually open for applications? I've heard that applications might open on September 8, is that info correct? (Also I'm considering UPM and UKM)

Also, what's the difference between the March intake and the October intake? Is IELTS 7.0 enough?

I am a 2nd year med school student. I am in a really difficult spot right now. When I started the course my plan was for PTPTN to cover most of it however due me to unknowingly having a business in my name the PTPTN only covers 50 percent of this. I am in MSU shah alam. My father was intially supporting my studies but due to him being an alcoholic he is now out of the picture. My mother has remarried and does not cover anything for me and I am operating on minimal support. I finished my degree 2 months ago and just got a job in a cybersecurity firm. It's a SME/startup since the staff isn't much (more or less 5 to 10 staff only).

Currently, I'm in my 2nd week working and my mom has been pressuring me to do master degree since she thinks im doing nothing. So far what I did for the past few days was monitor any threat alert for our client.

My concern is that there are few people who have done master got no job as the recruiter said they're overqualified for the role. I do wanna continue to do part time master but not in the upcoming 1 or 2 years.

My plan was to grind for certs such as CCNA, CEH, etc while working so i won't spend a dime and claim to HRDC.

What do you guys think?

I'm currently struggling a bit with my GPA and I’d really appreciate some insights from people who have been through something similar.

I had a 3.9+ GPA in my previous semester but this semester I dropped to a 3.52. I know 3.52 isn’t a terrible GPA objectively but I’m having a hard time accepting it because I know I could have done better. There were some subjects where I feel like I lost marks mainly because I didn’t manage my time/preparation well enough, which makes it even more frustrating.

At this point, I’m not sure what kind of GPA I should realistically aim for going forward. Should I still be pushing myself to get as close to a 4.00 as possible.. or is there a point where I should stop obsessing over every decimal and focus more on actually learning and doing well?

For those who have experienced a GPA drop after previously getting very high grades:

- How did you mentally deal with it?

- What GPA did you decide was “good enough” for yourself?

- Did you continue aiming for 4.00 or did you change your mindset?

- Did one bad semester actually affect your final CGPA as much as you feared?

Also, I need some advice on choosing an elective.

I’m currently deciding between taking an elective from Computer Science or taking another course that is more heavily focused on Mathematics.

For context, I’m studying Statistics, so I can see the value in both. CS could be useful for programming/computing skills while Math would probably strengthen the theoretical side of my degree.

If you had to choose between the two, which would you recommend and why? I’d especially appreciate answers from Statistics/Math/CS students or graduates.
