Inspiration Lived in a warehouse without corporate finding out for half a year.

Ex left me to go be with two other guys, leaving me to pay for $2500 a month apartment by myself while taking care of her two cats. Was dead broke by the time I moved out. Had nowhere to go, so I asked my boss if I could live at our warehouse until I had my stuff together. It was that or living on the streets. He said it was cool as long as our corporate managers never saw the room. Got to stay long enough to save money, do some cool things, and finally move back in with family to do some much needed healing.

1st pic was how it looked when I fully settled in. 2nd pic was how it started. 3rd pic was 5 hours later. Was pretty nice, until summer kicked in and with no ac it would get up to 95 degrees in the room lol

Sometimes I miss the privacy and the freedom to be as loud and crazy as I wanted to be. I think everyone needs a space to be a little unhinged.

Biggest advice to anyone who’s struggling.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. You might be a bit surprised what people are willing to do for you to make sure you can make it to the other side okay as well.

EDIT:

This is really resonating with a lot of people and I’m really grateful for all the kindness here. I’ll do my best to respond to any more questions once I wake up later! I hope that my story gives you all a reminder that even the smallest things can be like a luxury when it’s taken away. My space was as close to an ideal space as I could make it given some compromises being had.

I’m getting asked a lot on what happened to my ex’s cats that I took care of when she moved out. I’ll just paste what I said in another comment below.

I never was a cat person until I took care of her cats. Fell in love with her cats the same time I fell in love with my ex. Losing the cats was just as awful as the breakup. I asked my ex to tell me when she was moving back to her home state as she couldn’t have cats where she was staying when she moved out. Reason why I asked was so I could spend my last days with her cats with a proper goodbye. I treated those cats like they were my own.

It wasn’t until one day I was about to leave for work and heard my ex trying to break into my apartment to take the cats back without telling me. This was around the time she was sneaking into my apartment to steal some of my things too.

I begged her to let me have just one more day to spend with them to have a real goodbye. She threatened to call the police, so I had to let them go right then and there. I still think about those cats to this day.

Last I heard they’re still doing okay.

You can find a pic of them that I posted in another comment. Hope you both are still doing great, Sylvester and Oscar.

Inspiration 27M, Czechia, remodeling an aparment from the communist era

Two years ago, I bought a flat in an old building constructed during the communist era and decided to remodel the apartment by myself - including demolition, electrical work, plumbing, heating, flooring, masonry, doors, drywalls, decorating, etc. I hired professionals only for the tiling and the kitchen. However, after seeing how the kitchen was installed, I realized I should be able to make the rest of the furniture by myself.

Have posted the loft here before, but usually during the daytime/twilight when the natural light is doing most of the heavy lifting.

Wanted to share a darker/nighttime version this time around since everything feels completely different after sunset.

For the people who asked previously, this is in Toronto. The loft is roughly 1700 sqft, 3 bed, 2 bath + den. The last photo is the primary bedroom, and the second bedroom was converted into an office/reading nook. The final bedroom isn’t pictured here because it was pretty messy while I was photographing the apartment.

Happy to answer questions about the layout, lighting, furniture, plants, or anything else.

He lives by himself and has easily the coolest apartment I’ve seen in person. Over 4k record albums in his collection so far.

Inspiration Converted an unused attic into my favorite room in the house

Had some unused space in the attic and turned it into a cozy spot for working, watching movies, gaming, and relaxing. Most of the atmosphere comes from the warm lighting, wood paneling, and exposed beams.

We're moving later this year, so I'll have to leave it behind, but I'm already looking forward to designing and building the next version. Feedback and ideas for v2 are welcome.

Hey everyone! Love this sub and finally wanted to share my own space. I’ve slowly been renovating the past 3 years. It’s a 1950s rancher in the suburbs of Vancouver. Three bedroom, but one is my yoga room and the other is my office space. There’s also a small converted coach house in the backyard. Let me know if anyone has any questions.

Inspiration M33, single, My Living Room Setup as of May 2026, Yorkshire - United Kingdom

It's been about 18 months or so since buying my first house in 2024 age 31. This is how the living room looks as of May 2026 turned 33 back in March.

I am big on Hifi and vintage electronics as you can probably tell and I gave the space a 1970s mid century modern twist.

I really love my house it's a 3 bed semi new build located in rural Yorkshire, so plenty of space for just me. I do see it as my forever home right now with no plans to move.

Inspiration Here's a handful of pictures from my colorful house near Copenhagen,Denmark, with mostly my own furniture I design and build in my workshop. Yes, it's probably very different from how most other guys live, but hey, I love living among colors, patterns and the odd shapes of my furniture designs.

Probably spent a total of 5 full years of my life out to sea, spending nights onboard the ship, living like this.

I couldn’t imagine doing this again but am proud of my humble beginnings. This set me up for my current awesome reality.

I’m sure my marine and army bros who have been to sandbox look at this and laugh. Ship life sucks in its own way though.

As Charles Dickens said, “it was the best of times, it was the worst of times.”
