Ask r/Maroc If you had to start over at 22, what would you do?
Hi everyone,
I'm a 22-year-old Moroccan, and I'm about to start university soon. I wanted to share my situation and ask for honest advice, ideas, or even possible opportunities.
In 2022, I graduated from high school with a Baccalaureate in Mathematical Sciences (SMB). At the time, I was a hardworking student and did well academically. I genuinely believed I had a lot of potential.
But after that, things didn't go the way I expected.
For reasons that are still difficult for me to fully explain, the following four years became a period of stagnation and feeling lost. I wasn't moving forward academically or professionally the way I should have been. Looking back, I sometimes feel like I lost valuable years of my life.
My 2022 Baccalaureate was no longer valid for the university path I wanted to pursue, so I made the decision to start again.
This year, at 22, I took the Baccalaureate as an independent candidate in Mathematical Sciences again (SMA). I passed, and I am now about to begin a new chapter at university, studying Applied Mathematics.
I know that starting again at 22 is not the end of the world, but after losing several years, I really want to take this opportunity seriously. I know I haven't lived up to my own potential, and sometimes I feel that I have disappointed my parents, who always hoped to see me study, work hard, and build a good future.
This time, I genuinely want to do things differently.
The problem is that I also urgently need an income.
My family's financial situation is difficult, and my father has been undergoing dialysis treatment for years. Because of our situation, I don't feel that I can simply focus on studying without trying to earn something and help myself and my family.
At the same time, Applied Mathematics is a demanding degree. I expect to spend many hours at university, commuting, and studying outside of class. Because of that, I don't think I can realistically take a standard full-time job that takes up my entire day.
So I'm looking for any honest and legitimate way to earn an income that can reasonably fit around my studies.
I currently live in Marrakech, so I would especially appreciate hearing about any opportunities in Marrakech or the surrounding area. That said, I'm also open to remote work or opportunities that don't require me to relocate.
I'm open to different possibilities. For example:
- Tutoring mathematics, especially for middle-school students.
- Data entry or basic computer-based work.
- Administrative assistance.
- Helping an individual or small business with daily tasks or organization.
- Driving, delivery, or running errands, since I have a driver's license.
- Remote work.
- Evening or weekend work.
- Learning a realistic skill that could lead to flexible income within a reasonable amount of time.
I'm open to working with Moroccans or foreigners, locally or remotely. I'm willing to learn and put in the effort. I'm not looking for a shortcut or a "get rich quick" scheme. I simply need to find a realistic path that allows me to earn an income without sacrificing this second chance at my education.
If you've made it this far, thank you for taking the time to read my story. I know everyone has their own problems, and I genuinely appreciate anyone who takes a moment to share advice.
If you have been in a similar situation, I would really like to hear what you did.
If you know of a type of work, a skill, a direction, or an opportunity that you think could realistically suit someone in my position, please let me know.
And if you happen to know someone who is looking for help with something I could do, I'm also open to hearing about it.
I'm not asking anyone to solve my life for me. I'm simply trying to find a direction, and I'm willing to work for it.
Thank you.

Ask r/Maroc Has anyone here tried teaching Arabic on italki?
Salam everyone,
I'm thinking about trying to teach Arabic online through italki as a side income.since I'm Moroccan, so I could potentially teach both Moroccan Arabic and Fusha Arabic, and I'm wondering if anyone here has actually tried it.
I'm particularly curious about teaching:
- Moroccan diaspora who want to improve/relearn Darija or Arabic
- People in the West who are learning Arabic, including new Muslims
Has anyone here taught on italki (or a similar platform)?
If so, is it actually worth the time? I'm not expecting to make a full-time income, but could someone realistically make a few hundred dollars a month doing it part-time?
I'd especially appreciate hearing from Moroccans who have actually tried it and what their experience was.

Discussion Morocco, Western Sahara, and the borders left by France and Spain
Morocco was divided into different areas of French and Spanish colonial control, while Spain also administered Western Sahara as a separate colonial territory. This is important context because many of the borders and territorial divisions in the region were shaped during the colonial period rather than simply inherited from a fixed political map.
Western Sahara is also not Morocco’s only unresolved territorial issue. Ceuta and Melilla remain Spanish-controlled enclaves on Morocco’s northern coast, while maritime boundaries in the region have also been subject to disagreement. Taken together, these issues show how much of Morocco’s modern territorial landscape is connected to the way the region was divided and administered during the colonial era.
This does not, by itself, settle the question of sovereignty over Western Sahara. But it does challenge the overly simple framing that Morocco’s position is merely a modern attempt at territorial expansion. Morocco argues it has historical ties that predate those colonial borders. That is not the same as a settled legal title.
There is also a political dimension to Morocco’s current approach. Its 2007 Autonomy Proposal would maintain Moroccan sovereignty while granting Western Sahara broad powers over its internal affairs. Whatever the debate around the proposal, it provides a concrete framework for addressing the territory’s political status rather than leaving the issue solely at the level of competing territorial claims.
The colonial history, the unresolved borders around Morocco, and the autonomy proposal are therefore important pieces of the same bigger picture.

Ask r/Maroc Is doing an Ausbildung in business/management/marketing worth it?
