Read order recommendation

So I have decided to start reading comics but there are so many that I can't decide which one to read. Which comic would y'all suggest for a beginner?

The Ultimates series. Fun spin on the universe as it’s beaten into our heads. Real shock and surprise from otherwise super well known characters. Hero’s as villains, villains as heroes. All for legitimate reasons.

Like I've been browsing for the past 30 minutes and there are many issues and years they were released in. Can you give me any specific one to start with? It'd be really helpful

Try Ultimate Spiderman (the whole series has that translucent white bar on the left with the “U” symbol to indicate that it’s part of the series in some way) but the whole over-arching thing stems from a short series called Ultimate Invasion. It’s all Hickman, and it’s all pretty dang good. Start with Spiderman, if you enjoy it the way I really really have, then follow the reading guide set up in Marvel Unlimited or look online for recommended read orders for the Ultimate series. But most start with Spiderman because it really gives you a strong first look at the entire concept and consequences of the Makers actions right out the gate.

There are 2 different ultimate "universes".

There's one from the 2000s which I'm currently reading through myself and really enjoying. There's a reading order for the entire universe/series on here. I'll post a link below for you to look at if interested. It's a little dated so depending on your age, views etc you might find some of the dialogue a little jarring.

I've not read the newest one but I'm sure if you type marvel ultimate universe 2020s reading order or something along those lines you'll be able to find a few posts that detail where to start and what order to read them in. Failing that OCs suggestion of starting with Spider-man for now seems.

P.S. might be heresy to say it in this sub but don't forget about other publishers, DC has the absolute series ongoing rn, which is their version of a reimagining of the world & it's popular characters. Image, Dark Horse and Boom all have loads to dive into and not just superhero stuff, the series by them won't seem like this mountain of stories with countless jumping on points over the last 80 odd years. They'll (for the most part) have a easily defined beginning and ending (if not cancelled) which you may find a little more inviting/user friendly.

Ok that’s somewhere to start, know there isn’t an order like the MCU, you wanna probably read character runs individually for best flow and experience. I’d 100% recommend Ultimate Spider-Man by Bendis, because, though it is out of continuity, it is basically a modern retelling of all the classic Spider-Man stories, so definitely a good start.

I’m not nearly as versed in Thor, but I’d recommend visiting his sub, you could probably find a good reading order or run

Marvel is about to release the Midnight universe. It is like ultimate, a whole new universe, but with a horror twist. Starts with 3 titles: Spider-man, X-men, and Fantastic Four. Releases in October.
