Hey Sharks, it’s that time again! The Fall 2026 semester is in full swing, and refunds and loan disbursements are on everyone’s mind.

To keep things organized and limit the same posts from being made repeatedly, please use this thread to ask questions, share refund and loan updates, and discuss any financial aid issues you are dealing with. Any new posts outside of this megathread will be removed.

Lastly, this is a friendly reminder that r/MDC is not officially affiliated with Miami Dade College. The mods are not faculty or staff and can’t help with individual refund or loan issues. Instead, please contact your campus Financial Aid office for direct support. Thank you for your understanding!

STUDENT LIFE Looking for some new friends and info about north campus?

Heyy I’m a freshman at North Campus and I just started last week. I’m really just trying to meet new people and make some friends since I’m still getting used to the whole idea of college. I’m def down to like join clubs or make study groups or even just hang out. I’m usually introverted but that’s definitely gotta change so i can actually meet people but it feels like everyone i talked to so far just seems like they wanna go to class and leave 😭Also, does anyone know what kind of events North Campus has or if students can go to events at the other MDC campuses too? It’d be nice to go to one if anyone wants to go together. If you want you can dm me and we could like share socials (i only really use insta tho)

FINANCIAL AID About FAFSA in the Bookstore

I went to the bookstore and they told me that I could only use maximum 400 dollars with FAFSA. I never heard that before from my previous school. Can someone clarify why MDC is like that?

STUDENT LIFE In need of friends / club recs?

Hii I'm Nina and I'm a transfer student from SUNY Paltz! I'm mainly curious about clubs or communities on campus I can join in order to meet new people. I tend to keep to myself and don't really own social media but decided to download IG because I'm hoping it'll be easier for me to make friends. I'm an education major and a third year student. Feel free to dm me here and we can exchange info!

FINANCIAL AID How to get in contact with financial aid

My class payments are literally due tomorrow and I can’t afford to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed from FAFSA later. I’ve sent them so many emails and every time I call it either
1. Hangs up or
2. I’m on hold for over an hour

I live in fort myers and I can’t take off work to come in but I have no idea what to do 😭 when I finally do reach someone I get told different things 😭😭😭 does anyone else have this problem??? Is the best way to reach someone actually to go in person???

OTHER Who else can I speak to about Sharkpack?

I’m currently enrolled in CHM1033 but for some reason the class does not want to show in the opt-in/out tab. The class definitely has shark pack because in my invoice it says I paid for it, similar with the class description. My professor even mentioned that the shark pack isn’t mandatory since he’ll be teaching the course from PowerPoint slides.

FINANCIAL AID Help OFSA letter saying I’m “ineligible for bright futures”

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi I’m an upcoming freshman this fall and during my high school years I was in the AICE program where I was able to get my AICE diploma. Now I’ve gotten an email stating im not eligible for the bright futures scholarship even though I have the requirements for it. I’ve been trying to contact the Florida department of education, but I’ve been on hold for over 2 hours. I was wondering if anybody has any answers to this issue

Update: got another letter saying I’m eligible so I got the scholarship. You gotta just complete the forms before the 31st of August of your high school graduation year and it’ll be fine

FINANCIAL AID Troubles with financial aid

Is anyone else having trouble with their financial aid account? This is about to be my fourth semester in MDC and I had never had any trouble with FAFSA until now, I keep getting emails that my classes aren't fully paid for even though it had shown I had a grant that covered all of them, now the grant isn't even visible on my portal. I went to the financial aid website and all seems to be in order there. I tried waiting at school today to talk to a representative but I had to leave before my number was even called, hoping to still go in tomorrow but I wanted to know if anyone is also having problems with this!

ACADEMICS Are classes with "To Be Announced" MDC Online?

From another post on this subreddit, someone was saying that classes with the meeting details listed as "To Be Announced" are MDC Online classes? The post I found was from 5 years ago, so I'm checking to make sure that this information is still accurate. I wish there was something clearly indicating which classes were MDC Online.

EDIT: Thanks everyone for replying, I ended up going to the campus in-person to get everything sorted.

Hello, can someone share a little bit on how the Associates program of Nursing, specifically at the Medical Campus, is like? I will be applying for Spring 2027 and would love some insight on how program is going so far for anyone already in it.

Thanks in advance!!

ACADEMICS Has anyone passed CHS1522C on the first try? How?

Has anyone taken and passed CHS1522C? It's a Forensic Science class needed for the AS in Crime Scene Tech and I have heard horror stories about people failing it one or two times. Does anyone have stories of success who can offer tips on what i can do the pass the first time? My professor is Jesse Pullido, i think he is the only professor who teaches the class. I need to pass the class the first time and want to do everything in my power to do so. I am a relatively good student and good at studying, but the science and possible math part of this class worries me. Any help would be appreciated!!

ACADEMICS What Electives would you recommend?

Hello everyone, hope yall are having a good week.

So here are some details:
-I have completed all my “main” courses
-3.2 gpa
-I am missing 16 credits in pure ELECTIVES

My question is: what would be some fun electives to take? Another thing, they’ll be taken online bc electives aren’t something I plan on taking seriously tbh

Anyways, I would appreciate if you guys can recommend me what worked best for you and what it was like. Thank you

GRADUATION Miami Dade College – Can I complete my Business Administration AA in one year ?

Miami Dade College – Can I complete my Business Administration AA in one year?
Hey everyone! I’m starting at Miami Dade College this fall as a Business Administration student, and my goal is to transfer to a 4-year university afterward.
I’m wondering if it’s realistically possible to complete the AA degree in one year instead of two. I’m willing to take a heavy course load, including summer/winter classes if possible.
Has anyone here completed their AA at MDC in one year, or taken a very accelerated path? If so, how many credits did you take per semester, and what would you recommend?
I’d also love to know if there are any specific requirements or limitations I should be aware of when planning my courses.
Thanks!

ADMISSIONS MDC OR GALEN for rn ? (Lpn-rn) Advice!

Can someone give me a ballpark amount of $ they are paying for the MDC nursing program? And also help me decide which route to take? Specifically the transitional program but for generic or part time will work too!

I’m trying to decide between Galen or MDC for my RN since I’m already an LPN.

Galen is obviously more expensive but I’ll be transferring 10 out of the 20 credits they require to take, into the program (as long as I score above 60% on the teas) , they pay for my first Teas attempt and I’d start in September ( 15 months )

For MDC I can only take the TEAS with them, I read that the whole program is about $8-9k but will probably be way cheaper I’m assuming since i have all my pre reqs done with them from a few years ago , BUT I would start in January and do the part time (5 semesters) because I already work as an LPN nights. I’ve heard a lot of negative feedback from MDC and am just afraid to commit to a school who doesn’t care to flunk you or kick you out for any inconvenience.

Any advice would be so appreciated!

OTHER College email disabled suddenly

I'm an upcoming senior hoping to take some classes at my local college for my last year of highschool. My school mandated we took one in 10th grade so I made an account with the college then, and logged back into it sometime last week to email one of the counselors for assistance with selecting my classes. The meeting is tomorrow, so I wanted to check in with her one more time to make sure we were ok to proceed, but I am unable to access my gmail. I can still log into the portal with my username, but the email seems to be disabled as of today; it shows a message confirmed its unavailability began August 3, 2026. If I hadn't already emailed her a couple days ago, I'd assume it disabled due to the inactivity as I hadn't logged in for about a year prior to last week. I want to get my account fixed soon, especially if I hope to take classes here, I need to be able to contact my professors. Should I call the college myself? Or make an appeal to Google? (Least preferable, as it will most likely take several days to complete). It feels informal to contact the counselor via a personal email of mine to proceed with the online meeting, so I'd much rather not do that as well if possible. Thank you deeply in advance for any assistance in this matter. :)

CLUBS/ORGS How to get into clubs?

Hello, the title is self explanatory I was wondering where in person or online do I check the different clubs that the college have? since now I can afford slowing down from my current job and I wanting to focus on my schooling and finally having time to see the activities that’s going on in campus. I am in north campus and a little close to wolfson if that helps!
