I worry that this will happen to the Horizon games. 3rd one hasn't even started production and the devs are all stuck working on a GaaS game that doesnt have high odds of succeeding.
I honestly found the second one to be fine, but nowhere near as good as the first. It felt like a game cobbled together after the massive success of the first.
The first was very story driven with a very interesting world to explore; the second was world driven with a sorta interesting story to explore. That’s my 0.02
I really didn't vibe with how the second opened and the first one answered enough that I didn't bother to play more than a few hours. Still bought the Lego set and love ZD.
Forbidden West is weaker story-wise for sure. I still like it and i feel like it will be stronger going forward, given that they planned another but Forbidden West was probably less guaranteed when Zero Dawn released. By the end of the DLC I was starting to really get a bit excited for the next one.
It didn't feel weaker story-wise for me. The game managed to get you some in-depths lore which felt right. Guess that part was way more important for me. The story was good, but the lore made it perfect. To find out what has happenend in the past and how it affects the present time.
