Me: We want Half Life 3!

Valve: NO!

Valve 15 years later: ok here's halflife

Me: Wait what the fuck? You were seriously working on half life 3 this whole time?

Valve: haha what? no! this is a VR prequel.

Me: ....i mean I'll still play it.

Valve: ok but the ending hints at half life 3 coming out.

Me: seriously! So there is going to be a half life 3?

Valve: ha seriously? Still no, lol.

HL3 (the real ending) won't happen until we have Holodeck Technology and it is fully immersive and it'll probably kill you at the end.

Maybe.

They wont release Half Life 3 until they have something new to show off.

It could be earlier with some AI implementation. Like maybe we get a game with actual thinking AI enemies. That was something they tried to do in the very first game.

The biggest thing though, is will current gamers know the story of 1 and 2 before going into 3? They may have to get newer gamers into the previous story before releasing 3, with either a remake or some side game that sums up the plot.

I swear, Winnie the pooh 's episodes and movie are either Silly asf, or straight up the most sad and depressing thing You'll ever see in your entire life

Nothing in between

Yea my kids watch it. there is one episode where Rabbit adopts a bird and they are incompatible. it’s a disturbingly realistic and an emotional rollercoaster lol.

89

I was litteraly thinking exactly that episode and talking about It with one of my Friends.

Only God know how many tears i've shed to that episode when i was a kid

There is a show called Lily's Driftwood Bay where she plays with the animals along the beach while her dad works. in one episode they find a dead crow on the beach and the other animals hold a funeral for them and tell stories about their life.

"Hey kids! Here's a look at death! It comes without warning and all the people left behind are forever scarred!"

12

u/PearFighter 21h ago

A grown Kessie does return in a later episode

13

u/LunarBIacksmith 21h ago

I never forgot the emotions that episode gave me. I think it was the first time I cried that hard as a child. Just hearing the crying bird in my head makes me tear up.

Remember The Tigger Movie where Tigger has an existential crisis upon realizing he doesn’t have any other family members and is the only one. And almost gives into despair and near-death at the end b4 Roo helps inspire him with a bouncing technique he taught Roo. Ah what a rollercoaster that was watching it as a kid

The author Was a lieutenant in world war one A A Milen.

It's a stunning depiction of him coping with what he saw. A story of his loss of innocence , each character being a part of that.

Poos eternal optimism. Piglets , fear of everything and nothing , all at the same time. Eore depression and sadness that never goes away. Tigger always busy to stay busy.

Even The mother kangaroo... Symbolic to all the mothers with children that never saw their husbands again.

The story really is a timeless piece of character writing.

Crazy such a masterpiece never got a sequel or at least some sort of equal.

94

u/fatherandyriley 21h ago

I heard they had 2 ideas for a sequel, one with delta squad working for the empire and another with Sev training the first rebels. Ideally I would have 2 campaigns that's based on those 2 ideas and completing both unlocks a final story where Delta Squad confronts Sev's rebels.

42

u/fake_user_34 19h ago

and the thing is, they can still do it. Delta Squad shows up in the clone wars and the Bad Batch, they ARE working for the empire.

There was this tiny golden age of SW video games that seemed to abruptly cut off. It was just this 3 year period with most of the best games coming out ending basically at 2005. By the time Disney bought Star Wars there wasn't much left but a lot of projects stuck in development hell and bad ports.

79

u/ImNotSkankHunt42 20h ago

No, blame Square for that Avengers game. The one already delisted that no one remembers.

29

u/redvelvetcake42 20h ago

Incredible how bad it was

8

u/Morgc 16h ago

They actually cancelled Deus Ex to move the budget to a game called 'Wildlands', an open world game about a bunch of teenagers with magic. You can probably already guess just from how mediocre that sounds that it was cancelled also.

I get DE was over budget, but it was also allegedly in polish phase. Disappointing.

As per an admittedly all too brief article from March

XCOM2, my beloved.

We'll never now what terror lurked in the deep, right ?

62

u/kingkazul400 21h ago

Allegedly Jake Solomon’s team got burned when Firaxis told them to work on Midnight Suns.  And while it was… okay-ish, it wasn’t XCOM 3.

Then there’s that middling Chimaera Squad which for all intents and purposes was a spiritual successor to XCOM Apocalypse.

36

u/Rotanikleb 20h ago

Coincidentally, Midnight Suns is just another answer to this thread. They set up Doctor Doom as the villain for the next installment. There were so many good things about Midnight Suns they could’ve built on too, it’s a real shame Firaxis fumbled at the corporate level. XCOM3 and Midnight Suns 2 would’ve slapped hard.

10

u/Rico_Rebelde 19h ago

Not to mention what they did to Civilization. They put all their resoruces into that franchise and still turned out shit for CIV 7

That one is even worse to me, because the dev studio is technically still around but barely anyone is left who actually worked on Titanfall 2 and they refuse to capitalize on the success of Apex Legends to make a third game.

It's one thing to see a series get cut short because the original creators couldn't finish it, it's another thing entirely when they go out of their way to kill it themselves.

Even though 3 was less-than when compared to the first two, I’d kill for a fourth game…

20

u/Lone-Frequency 20h ago

I honestly didn't mind three as much as a lot of people seem to. It definitely had its problems, but honestly the gunplay felt great.

I know a lot of people were pissed off that it didn't focus as hard on the horror as it did the action, and that is certainly a fair point, but I also felt that the far more heavy focus on the action made sense with Isaac's overall progression into a jaded, angry monster killer.

They could definitely improve on 3 very easily, but since EA we're very clearly setting the bar too high on sales for the remake that'll never happen.

I know it's a game everyone shits on, but Call of Duty: Ghosts. I am one of the people who really loved the campaign and the ending was a crazy cliffhanger with the context you were given earlier in the story. Something big was being set up, but 13 years later and there's never been any publicized plans of them revisiting that story.

While the studio behind it, Infinity Ward, was never shut down, they have definitely been locked into never making anything besides more Modern Warfare sequels.

15

The ME trilogy, even if you get that one ending, was clearly meant to finish after ME3.

Legacy of kain

We recently got a prequel, and there was a pvp game a while back

But that is not what most fans wanted. At all.

We wanted a game that would finish the damn story!

Most ironic of all, was the last gift that Raziel had given me. More powerful than the sword that now held his soul, more acute even than the vision that his sacrifice had accorded me. The first, bitter taste of that terrible illusion: hope.

-me for about 90% of the games I play. I sadly just have to move on.

Buy the rights to the franchise and finish it yourself.

Thankfully Okami is supposed to have a sequel in the making.

That didn't follow amaterasu and issun after the first game so it's more of a spin off.

spec ops: the line. Even if the studio didn't shutdown, there was such a potential for another game...

Could you elaborate? I just beat that game and it doesn't have a cliffhanger. It has definitive endings.

The Deus Ex games with Adam Jensen. Even worse knowing Mankind Divided was directed to finish as a cliffhanger when we could have received a finished story.

Frontlines: fuel of war

Maybe to most people it was generic, but as a kid into militaria the asthetics were fantastic

So many cool things, they put a lot of effort into the weapon and unit designs.

u/Defense-Unit-42 21h ago

Wait, but Stray had an ending. The cat gets to be free in the wild again and see the sun

14

u/Modernpoweranger100 21h ago

It had an ending but not one that gave much information, all we know is the cat got outside and the city was open, not much actual detail like whether the outsiders were able to reunite, or if the cat could get back to its family
