I’m bound by windows due to apps that don’t work on Linux 😭
I’m considering dual booting but some people tell me it’s a headache and things break because of dual booting
I don’t want to have this headache rn but maybe in the future

u/ParkingGlobal 5h ago
There is alternatives for much of "only windows apps"
Don't hesitate to try in the futur, no one is pushing you to switch if you're not ready for it ^1

Could try a Live USB stick. Doesn't alter your system at all, lets you see what kind of stuff works and doesn't. Remove the stick, reboot, and you're back in Windows. There's definitely software that's truly Windows-only but it's shrinking. I'd recommend Ubuntu or Debian for the most bog standard Linux, unless the primary use case is gaming (in which case probably Bazzite or SteamOS). Dual booting is usually pretty risk free these days, but I understand your hesitation.

Stop complaining about windows and we talk

I don't complain about windows, because I'm running 10 IoT LTSC. Aka the last good version of windows probably ever.

Right click, run as administrator.
You can do a lot with an admin powershell prompt...

This is why we use Linux since it gives you the freedom to delete the entire root folder if you really felt like it

Then you manage to edit the file with the help of a tutorial online. Next thing you know windows won't boot up.

Isn't there a law that outlaws modifying a computer or software that tech companies abuse for phones and apps? Feel like I heard John Oliver mention it

I own the hardware, though the software is a different story.

u/Emotional-Big-1306 6h ago
You can always start owning software too

As if it were that easy, but oh well.

For me switching to linux was pretty easy. I've had dualboot and shared partition, and after about a month or two i stopped using windows. But i'm a developer and had used linux on servers, so i don't know what experience would be for regular user
