For windows there is extra steps like : installing a linux distro and wipe out windows

I’m bound by windows due to apps that don’t work on Linux 😭

I’m considering dual booting but some people tell me it’s a headache and things break because of dual booting

I don’t want to have this headache rn but maybe in the future

u/ParkingGlobal 5h ago

There is alternatives for much of "only windows apps"
Don't hesitate to try in the futur, no one is pushing you to switch if you're not ready for it ^

Could try a Live USB stick. Doesn't alter your system at all, lets you see what kind of stuff works and doesn't. Remove the stick, reboot, and you're back in Windows. There's definitely software that's truly Windows-only but it's shrinking. I'd recommend Ubuntu or Debian for the most bog standard Linux, unless the primary use case is gaming (in which case probably Bazzite or SteamOS). Dual booting is usually pretty risk free these days, but I understand your hesitation.

Stop complaining about windows and we talk

8

u/rip-droptire 5h ago

I don't complain about windows, because I'm running 10 IoT LTSC. Aka the last good version of windows probably ever.

Welcome to Linux in two years time! By that point we probably have kinda good and stable Nvidia drivers and CUDA -support! Or go team red

7

u/rip-droptire 5h ago

I am already team red, fuck NVIDIA

u/SpookyWeebou Professional Dumbass 5h ago

This is why we use Linux since it gives you the freedom to delete the entire root folder if you really felt like it

2

u/Spiritual_Paper6491 7h ago

You need to follow my instructions and not me

2

u/GAMER_1467 5h ago

Just use it as admin

2

u/XlikeX666 39m ago

Then you manage to edit the file with the help of a tutorial online. Next thing you know windows won't boot up.

1

u/kaida27 6h ago

Change the file owner in property. Then delete system32

1

u/ColorMeTickled 4h ago

Isn't there a law that outlaws modifying a computer or software that tech companies abuse for phones and apps? Feel like I heard John Oliver mention it

1

u/TheShredder9 32m ago

Lol, you use Windows and think you own your computer. Lmaooo

-6

u/DaveVdE 7h ago

LOL you think you own your computer

8

u/Migol-16 Duke Of Memes 7h ago

I own the hardware, though the software is a different story.

3

u/Emotional-Big-1306 6h ago

You can always start owning software too

0

u/Migol-16 Duke Of Memes 6h ago

As if it were that easy, but oh well.

2

u/Emotional-Big-1306 6h ago

For me switching to linux was pretty easy. I've had dualboot and shared partition, and after about a month or two i stopped using windows. But i'm a developer and had used linux on servers, so i don't know what experience would be for regular user

3

u/dinosaursandsluts 7h ago

I know I own my computer
