Benjamin Hooks Escalators ?

Post image

I came across this on Twitter and just can't believe it. I don't go to the library much maybe twice a year for the Friends of The Library Sale. Can anybody confirm that this is true ? Why in the world if true have they not worked for years. I am concerned....lol

They weren't out of service, they were temporarily stairs.

From my understanding, the escalators broke about 3-4 years ago. The parts had to be custom-made=expensive. So the library had to beg the city council for the money for a while before the parts could even be ordered.

Yup. This is huge for us that go regularly. Our library was finally able to fix the escalators !

I talked to one of the head librarians a couple of months ago when they started replacing them. Apparently the old ones were older custom made setups. So when they started breaking down they couldn't just buy new parts. The new ones shouldn't have that issue.

they did a massive operation a month or three ago and they are back in operation. I think that they basically rebuilt them.

I really wish there were publicly accessible stairs between the 1st and 2nd floors.

The elevators are going to be shut down now and will be for about three months. They're getting upgraded next.

I wonder if they would have had better luck had they salvaged/retained the old J.B. Hunter inclinator.

I cannot remember using an escalator there.

I’ll never forget going up those elevators behind a girl that had on super tight shorts, no panties and a huge butt. That thing was just jelly.
