Hey yall. I have been playing guitar for a week, and I’ve had one formal lesson but my teacher is having me learn the last kiss by pearl jam and I find playing it over, and over again, exceedingly depressing. I’m looking for something to break up the monotony of that sad ass song, but most of the things people recommend for beginners are still very much too hard for me. I play piano, so I understand music, but I’m having a hard time with the newfangled instrument haha.

Curious what the community’s opinion is on the 5153. I’m running a quad cortex with captures of the black stealth, el34 stealth, and 6505II. I always thought the 6L6 was gonna be the one but having played with them for a couple months now I think the EL34 or more for me.

I recently picked up some captures of the 6505II and I may even prefer that to the others too. They all sound amazing tbh. I know it’s not the real amp but they are captures, good ones at that.

Opinions??

I’m building out a little studio and I’ve also been recently transitioning away from 8 strings and very low tunings and been favoring 7 strings in B standard and 6 strings in C standard.

I bought a fireball after playing it in a store but as I’m pricing out the rest of the studio I’d like another tube amp to compliment it.

I’m not looking for a modeler or amp sim solution.

This is for fun and for my own personal music, nothing pro and I mostly play melo death/ tech death/prog styles.

Reference tones would be stuff like Opeth’s ghost reveries, inflames colony/clayman or archspire’s bleed the future.

But without having them here and having less experience with tube amps I wanted to get some opinions before I pulled the trigger.

This studio was years of saving and planning so I’d really rather just buy once, cry once than buy something and have to return it and buy something else.

Any input/recommends on the above or anything else you think would match/compliment the fireball would be appreciated!

After metal and rock died off from the radio and charts my 6 string ambition crashed. I especially missed the thrash scene. Oddly enough it was drop tunings , B and C that got me listening to and playing metalcore which lead to today's modern chugs that I'm blazing daily.

I use a HSH guitar and nux mg 101

Pretty sloppy and only 90% speed but it's just for fun.

Hello, first post here. I have been playing for a couple of years, and never had any specific routine, few scales and learning whatever songs I felt like. I have delved into CoB lately, and the solos are killing me. Pretty easily memorable, but real fast. Is it just a slow grind, upping it a few bpm at time? I don’t want no shortcuts, I love playing but somehow the excercises bore me to death

I'm a newbie, both in this subreddit as well as in learning guitar. I've only been playing for 8 months and I've made considerable progress, I think, but I've been wondering if the journey to self-taught guitar player is intrinsically harder than it is to learn with a teacher.

I honestly see the guitar as a hobby because I already have a career and I just want to be a good bedroom guitar player for my own pleasure, because of that I've been reluctant to pay for lessons, I mean, I don't want to commit to lessons with a teacher and have them turn into a chore, my love for metal and the guitar notwithstanding.

I don't think I am talented or anything, but I know that consistency goes a long way and I do try to play and practice songs and technique everyday, sometimes with one day off in-between for work reasons or just to rest a little.

Having said that, what guitar players in metal are 100% self-taught? I don't exactly aspire to be like any of them, but I just want the reassurance that learning on your own is indeed doable.

EDIT: By 100% self-taught I mean learning on your own, with books, tabs, videos, etc, some tips from friends, expect actual lessons with a teacher.
