I just wanted a hot dog Doctor’s appointment scheduled at 9:00am, still waiting almost an hour later

I have a lot of doctor’s appointments, and I know how busy and hard these people work. I’m not mad at them and I’d never be rude. I know it’s not on purpose. Nevertheless, it’s still a bit infuriating to make time for a scheduled appointment, arrive 15 minutes early (required), and then wait this long with not even an acknowledgment of the delay from anyone. Sigh. 9:55 now, still waiting.

Edit: I really appreciate all the comments! The doctor ended up coming in shortly after 10. This was a specialist ortho appointment for my shoulder. Still no acknowledgement of the delay, which would’ve been nice, but I’m more annoyed that my concerns were pretty much brushed off again during the whole 3ish minutes he spent with me. I know waits can get long, I wouldn’t care as much if the doctor had at least seemed somewhat concerned with my issue. Sigh… gotta love American healthcare!

Early morning appointments shouldn’t be an hour late. The day hasn’t had time to get away from them yet

In the office I used to work 9am would be the 3rd or 4th appointment of the day. Lots can go wrong with just one appointment.

Depending on the specialty, it can go wildly sideways. We legit had our 7am appointment once need emergency surgery and had to cancel the entire day of clinic.

An extreme most wouldn't have, but stuff like that has happened. Not fun for anyone.

Had an endoscopy scheduled and just before I should have been called back, the power went out to the whole building. They had to reschedule for another day.

I wonder what happened to the people who had three feet of camera up their butt when that happened. I assume some of that stuff has backup power.

I would assume anything that is an OR has to have seamless backup power.

The ones I worked for had a large diesel generator with a natural gas backup (or the other way around) if I remember right. OR, ICU, PCU, even all regular rooms had an outlet or two that were on the generator circuit since at any given time you could have someone in there with a need for it.

This place does both, thus the curiosity. I was in for the upper end, so no serious prep. Usually, I'm there for the other.

Any facility with an OR is required to have an emergency back up generator. They will finish a case under generator (that’s why we have it) but they will not start a new case until the main power has been restored.

As a physician, I can answer that. Endoscopy, assuming a lower as you mentioned "the butt."
So if a power loss occurs in the OR during the middle of a procedure, we just wake you up, get a cash deposit for our camera and send you home with the cable hanging out of your ass. Come back the next day, you get your money back, we get our camera back. Dont worry, we tape the excess cable to your leg so you dont trip...we really do care about patient safety.
