Need to get them proof of transponder, proof it had money, proof it is in your name, proof all of these things on the exact date of the fine, and more. The Maryland EZ Pass person I talked to was flabbergasted at the amount of information he had to throw together in these reports for us to appease Delaware's DOT. Finally after hours on the phone he was able to generate us all these reports with time and dates on them for us. Then after generating the reports we had to send them in to Delaware and wait for approval. They denied us like twice, each time we had to call the Maryland dude and have him generate more reports for us. Finally we were able to get it waived

All this because we drove through a QUARTER toll near like Smyrna or something and the toll was malfunctioning. They were trying to hit us with some exorbitant $200 shit like this due to some Delaware "crack down" on toll skipping or something.

Delaware is insane and known to be truly insane when it comes to tolls, violations, and being absolutely evil when it comes to enforcing them.

I'm shocked MD EZpass did anything that actually HELPED you considering what a garbage company they are. I had to spend hours on a support chat after giving up trying to talk to anyone on the phone to resolve random $50 - $150 weekly charges. When the support chat rep basically said "yeah, dunno, that is weird" I pulled my credit card from my their site and "applied" to close my account. Two years later they sent me a check for $1.18.

Oh damn, my household has PA EZ Pass and we were in a similar situation to OP but I think in PA, and I was shocked at how straightforward the fee waiver process was. I think it was like a two-second online form, like basically just providing the EZ Pass account number or something. Sorry you had to deal with Delaware, that sounds atrocious.

I’ve had this issue on the turnpike. I borrow my father in laws trailer occasionally. My truck has EZPASS, trailer is on his EZPASS. Everytime without fail they charge my EZPASS for the expected amount and send a violation for going through a toll booth with no EZPASS for the trailer despite already having charged me for the trailer. Ridiculous. Takes me 2 hours on the phone to get it cleared up with NJ.

A lot of toll roads exist because people voted against raising taxes for new roads. So then private companies made the road with the intent to pay for the road via tolls. So these roads exist because people thought the opposite to what you are thinking.

It's not free... it's paid for by upping your taxes. You just dont see the money going specifically to the road. At least on the toll road the only people who are paying for it are the ones who use it. With public roads people pay for it even if they only ride bikes or only use public transportation. Or sit at home doing nothing.

No... it's cheaper if you dont use the road because then you aren't paying for it all. The toll roads are paid for by the people who use it. If you dont want to pay it, it's free to not use it.

On the other hand government roads are paid for by everybody, even those who dont use them at all.

For toll roads you have to pay for the toll infrastructure as well as the road itself. A mass replacement of tax funded roads with toll roads would see the total road costs skyrocket thanks to all those toll systems needed. All road based logistics would be paying these tolls, and those costs would be passed on to the customers. We'd end up paying for most of it through higher costs on all the products we buy.

In my state the toll roads are still built and owned by the state. They're just poverty exclusion zones, because old people will cry if a poor person shares the road in Florida, and in the antifreedom state of Florida, making old people cry is communism and punishable by being locked in a room with Ron DeSantis and Donald trump tag teaming a 12 year old girl, like they did on Epstein’s island

This happened to me. I drove from Maryland to NY and by the time I got all the invoices my overall bill was like $600.

As others have said, just call and say you had an active transponder and give them the number. In my case I just had to pay the base fee for all of them.

Delaware is extortionate in general with their tolls. You're in the state for like 13 miles and there are two tolls totaling $6.

I'm such a cheapskate that I get off at the last exit in MD and then back on at the first exit in DE in order to skip the $5 toll. At least the $6 bridge toll is only when you're heading south

Same similar thing- I went to Miami Fl and rented a car. For each toll I went through I paid for the toll and a service fee. The tolls were .93 and the service fee was 10.95. Dollar rental car will NEVER get my money again.

I’ve ignored these bullshit toll charges before and per CFPB they can’t mark these to your credit history. Unless you live in DE or a state that works closely with DE such as MD or PA where they might attempt to prevent you from renewing your license, they won’t do shit.

Well I am in a situation where Kansas sent a bill to an address (in my name) to an address that I lived at 20 years ago and the current resident got it to me. The problem is I have never been anywhere near Kansas and how did they get my address from 20 years ago? It is a legit bill if I put the number in the kansas turnpike website it comes up. I am having a run around with it.
