Ruined by Technology Somebody posted an AI version of my art...

Post image

Less than 10 hours ago I posted a piece of fan art I'd made, and have just came across it on Facebook - where someone had put an AI filter over it 😑

I dunno, do you think that's what he's trying to get across?

He's not really being clear.

u/MrExist777 8h ago

Okay, but I am curious how you found this Facebook post. Did it literally just appear on your feed coincidentally? Are you in a Hitman Facebook group? Can we get the link?

259

u/Complex_Meeting9053 8h ago

Yeah, I'm in the Hitman group on Facebook, which is where he posted it. I posted it on Reddit before going to bed. When I woke up, I opened Facebook and it was the 3rd or 4th post on my feed.

I posted the link earlier ( https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1GZ5xq8bgz/ ) but he's either deleted the post, or Admin deleted it for using AI/breaking rules.

Numerous comments on this post said they saw the facebook post.

u/mr-english 4h ago

How did he find THIS thread so soon after you posted it?

The top comment references his Reddit username just 26 minutes after you posted this thread, so he must have commented here before then.

23

u/kawaiian 2h ago

Perhaps we have found the 14th account

Is the call coming from inside the house

I mean to be fair he's the type of person to see someone's art that was literally just posted and run it through an AI filter, it's safe to assume he's on Reddit a lot.

u/Complex_Meeting9053 1h ago

I dunno, I posted on his Facebook post so he probably came back to my profile to have a stalk, I honestly can't tell you. However, I do think your timing is off by an hour or so (not saying it is, but I don't think he started commenting straight away).

I know what you're getting at, but surely the Mod who's been recieving the messages and has been having to deal with him can see we at least have different IP addresses or whatever.

Not everything's a conspiracy.

How do you think drawing works??

-168

u/BikeProblemGuy 14h ago

There's multiple ways to make this image and it's too low resolution to see which. It's possible this is mostly original (except character designs), and also possible these were all preexisting images made by the game studio which OP just composited.

89

u/AgreeableWorker3227 RED 14h ago

Type shit the top 1% commentor says

-133

u/BikeProblemGuy 14h ago

Nah just autistic artist and curious what we're looking at here. I don't know why I have this tag, I'm not even subscribed to this subreddit.

6

u/Lordoge04 6h ago

You've been commenting on mildlyinfuriating for a year, so that's probably why. You can search your name in the subreddit and see your comment history.

30

u/Plastic-Camp3619 13h ago

Definitely autistic idk about the rest

71

u/bunnypup_on_a_leash 14h ago

Dude it takes 2 seconds to check OPs account and see that they frequently draw Hitman and other videogame characters in this same art style, what are you talking about

-86

u/BikeProblemGuy 13h ago

I did and it was just cat pics. But yes, now you say it's there I can see scrolling even further there is OP's art. That still doesn't answer the question of how much of this image was their own work.

24

u/SentientSeamoth 10h ago

Thank god you don't investigate murder cases, bc you couldn't solve a case if the murderer handed you the weapon and their confession on camera.

77

u/A_Very_Lonely_Waffle 14h ago

What did you actually type here? These aren’t your letters right? And you’re using words you didn’t make, run through smartphone or typed out?

-60

u/BikeProblemGuy 14h ago

lol, I'm not the one claiming someone else infringed my moral rights

62

u/A_Very_Lonely_Waffle 14h ago

Oh i seeeee, you’re just not very bright

-16

u/BikeProblemGuy 13h ago

Okay what am I missing? Because it looks a lot like this person is complaining someone ripped off the thing he ripped off.

44

u/PredEdicius 14h ago

You are gonna freak the fuck out on how cooking works.

-2

u/BikeProblemGuy 13h ago

I don't think I am. You've misunderstood if you think I am pro-IP and against remixing stuff.

36

u/PredEdicius 13h ago

Your intentions are pretty clear as they are shallow lol.

-3

u/BikeProblemGuy 13h ago

Okay so why would I be against cooking? The great thing about cooking is that people copy recipes and everyone can try things or put their own spin on them.

20

u/PredEdicius 12h ago

Right. Just like what this art is

1

u/BikeProblemGuy 11h ago

I know, I don't have a problem with his art. Like I said, you've misunderstood.

Because you literally have to cook if you are COOKING, or do you order takeaway and tell people you have cooked it?

AI defenders are wild.

"This art just inspired him so much to want a new Hitman movie! He just HAD to slopify your hard work!"

-155

u/duncanmarshall 10h ago

He didn't have to create an AI version of someone else's work, just like OP didn't have to create a cartoon version of someone else's work. Both just wanted to. Nobody destroyed the original by creating theirs. Everybody is fine.

62

u/Good-Marsupial8 9h ago

One person did actual work here. The other told a hallucination language math system to plagiarize and slightly change someone else's work. If you like that kinda stuff you're braindead or potentially just a bot account and I presume you're a real drag to hang out with regardless

-80

u/IUSIR 10h ago

this.. but OP was wronged by the guy violating their rights.

-223

u/IUSIR 11h ago

why do you care about AI? does it devalue your art as a human? I don’t mind AI, if it leads to a better and more immersive experience like in Videogames or Cardgames.. I mostly don’t use it (only to finish designs up) but I don’t have to be against it.

79

u/Lurakya 11h ago

But it isn't more immersive. "Realism" isn't the end all be all for artistic expression. And most AI upscale is full of artifacts and looks garbage. So what's immersive? Is it the generic artstyle or the real people suffering because of it that makes it more special?

-59

u/IUSIR 10h ago

thank you for a response without insulting me.. it’s sadly a rare gem in this subreddit. I would love to find out more about why people suffer from AI but I need to leave, because I let the swarm of haters get to me. Be Well.

50

u/357toyourforehead 10h ago

Also taking someone’s art and shoving into AI just feeds the training program. It now immediately and nonconsensually will use this person’s art style and ideas in future AI slop. No credit, no payment, just theft because some fucking loser had to try and Mr Me Too something they liked and give their worthless self esteem a boost like they actually did something instead of just enjoying the art for what it was or actually taking the idea and trying to draw it for themselves.  they have just shared the original and talked about how cool a movie would be. The world gained nothing and lost more because this chud stole the art and fed it into this machine to spit out garbage that has no right to exist

27

u/Lurakya 9h ago

I mean, the loss of employment as well as the loss of all value in their property, peace of mind and drinking water is what came to mind for me

14

u/ChaddestKroeger 8h ago

You could have answered his question coward.

1

u/LaminatedAirplane 3h ago

>but I need to leave, because I don’t have any real answer

FTFY

82

u/HumanShadow 11h ago

If you're a designer who needs to use AI for anything, it means you're not creative enough for your career and you are indeed an imposter. That is pathetic but admitting it is the first step

2

u/Axodique 11h ago

I think there's nuance in it, they might have skill, or even imagination. The problem would be laziness in finishing them up, rather than being an imposter.

24

u/aNihilistsResort 11h ago

Yeah, every creative person - in any field - has breaks in creative thinking sometimes. Be it at the start of, during, after or between projects. If you use AI to do part of your creative work for you, you're a lazy person who refuses to go through the more difficult processes of creating

-42

u/duncanmarshall 10h ago

This is why when I play the violin, I only do it while balancing on a beach ball. Otherwise I'm lazy, and my music isn't music.

24

u/FemboyRune 10h ago

A more apt comparison would be

"When I play the violin, I actually don't, but I asked a robot to and claimed credit."

-38

u/duncanmarshall 10h ago

Good point. When I play a violin, I just tell a machine called a violin to make sound, I don't actually sing the notes with my own voice.

Not really relevant to their argument though. Their argument was that AI art is not hard enough, therefore it's not good.

u/Good-Marsupial8 9h ago

The loss of craft is what I mourn every time I see generative images being passed off as "art"

-10

u/IUSIR 10h ago

Nah, not laziness, I crave realism and don’t have no time.

19

u/FemboyRune 10h ago

"I crave realism" there is literally already a realistic Hitman out there, it's called Hitman.

-19

u/duncanmarshall 10h ago

If you're a designer who needs to use a paintbrush for anything, it means you're not creative enough to rub clay on a cave wall and are an imposter. That is pathetic, but admitting it is the first step.

13

u/HumanShadow 9h ago

AI would have come up with something better than this reductive brain diarrhea.

-29

u/wattro 10h ago

So designers should code their own engine?

20

u/asc_yeti 10h ago

I would pay to be this dumb. Life would be so easy

-5

u/IUSIR 10h ago

50€ Amazon now

23

u/Axodique 11h ago

I don't have the internet's hate boner for AI. There are worthy uses. But you just don't understand the difference between using it for yourself, and the sheer disrespect of putting SOMEONE ELSE's work through the AI slop filter, and reposting it without even credit.

-5

u/IUSIR 10h ago

I thought it was legal to do so.

17

u/red-scribbles 9h ago

Legal does not always mean ethical, and illegal does not always mean unethical. The law should not be considered an infallible moral compass

11

u/Axodique 9h ago

Whether it's legal or not doesn't really matter.

4

u/Alradeck 8h ago

the many pending lawsuits open ai and other slop generators have against them beg otherwise.

-15

u/duncanmarshall 10h ago

You understand that Hitman is not OP's original work, right? Why don't they come up with their own work, rather than someone else's?

24

u/Axodique 10h ago

Not the same whatsoever.

-7

u/duncanmarshall 10h ago

Redditors really struggle with comparing things are not purely identical in every aspect. Just blows their mind.

18

u/Axodique 10h ago

Your point is the comparison. Here, it just doesn't make sense.

3

u/Nerd_Watching 8h ago

Its really not comparable.

Hitman is a big, recognizable franchise whose’s title is literally right there in the fanart. People widely know to the point that mentioning is redundant of how to obtain the game, say googling it.

The fanart’s artist name is nowhere present in the AI poster’s post. There is little likelyhood of someone finding the fanartist from that post by googling. They’d have to do some shit like “hitman movie title fanart facebook” to find it.

21

u/blveberrys 10h ago

Astounding that people with seemingly enough intelligence to operate a computer will come on and type comments like this. Fanart is a very well-known concept. AI isn’t “art”, and is an amalgamation of stolen arts, so putting an artist’s work through the ai filter with no other additions is both rude and disrespectful. Are you stupid?

3

u/ChaddestKroeger 8h ago

Yes, they really are.

6

u/ChaddestKroeger 9h ago

AI devalues all art that it steals from because AI can't create and neither can the brain dead people who need it to turn out slop for them.

52

u/LaurenMille 11h ago

This can't truly be your opinion. If it is then please stop using AI.

You're actually so detached from reality it's insane.

1

u/One_Tie900 3h ago

People like him will make whatever justification up to excuse the unethical shit they do and never admit they are wrong.

-32

u/IUSIR 11h ago

may be, that I‘m detached from this Bubble of Thought..

33

u/MamasCumquat 11h ago

Touch some grass please. 🙏

-9

u/IUSIR 11h ago

you touch some grass, AI isn’t bad.

26

u/cabbage16 11h ago

You should probably have AI punch up that comeback for you. Your skills are lacking.

-5

u/IUSIR 10h ago

you’re clearly ragebaiting troll

17

u/cabbage16 10h ago

Clearly.

Do you need AI to read comments for you too? You seem to be unable to understand nuance without a computer thinking for you.

15

u/Hokuspokusnuss 11h ago

Imagine appreciating and being inspired by artwork without stealing it for your own post while doing nothing original with it.

Or at least reposting the original with credit. But no, had to feed it to AI. You think maybe OP doesn't want a shitty AI version of their artwork out there?

22

u/icarusrising9 11h ago edited 11h ago

I was so inspired by someone the other day, I stole their car and fucked their wife. Cuz I so admired their lifestyle, y'know? Dude got mad, can you believe it? Some people really don't know how to take a compliment.

-4

u/IUSIR 10h ago

bro, Wifes can decide for themselves.. Car-Theft is Theft.

11

u/Twiroxi 11h ago

This was sarcasm, right? Right??

4

u/Visual_Crusader 9h ago

Ai is for lazy talentless losers tbh

2

u/McDergen 7h ago

“If someone takes your work and edits it without telling you, you should take it as a compliment”

Are you genuinely brain damaged?

-10

u/IUSIR 11h ago

ur hostility is unmatched and futile. Stop being afraid of AI.

28

u/zerenato76 11h ago

Stop licking boots.

28

u/EligibleUsername 11h ago

No one is afraid of the slop machine brother, shit is just god damn harmfully useless when put in the hands of idiots, and guess what, there are many, including you, by the way you're conducting yourself. Get a grip.
