They put plastic on everything just for the fuck of it at this point. We could reduce plastic waste so much if these companies weren't so goddamn stupid with their overuse of it.

The issue is that plastic (in the form of ethylene and propylene) is a byproduct of processing petroleum. When companies have an excess of these monomers, the EPA doesn’t like that so in order to continue processing their oil products, they have to offload the byproducts.

This constant flow of waste allows other companies to acquire and process the monomers into plastic for cheap. That’s why plastic is everywhere even though it is absolutely terrible, biologically.

Came to say this. We have plastic because we have so much byproduct from oil use. They aren't doing this for giggles. I wish this was more common knowledge, as most people still don't seem to know this.

The largest issue with it all is there isn’t accountability at the corporate level. Pay a fine, keep it moving, business as usual.

Regulations were blasted apart, laws favor the greedy assholes that throw their toxic waste into our mouths and environment.

I completely stand with you, though. Not nearly enough education surrounding the damage we have done and are currently doing.

I do weekly grocery pickup and every goddamn time they put stuff like a single lemon or onion, etc in plastic bags.

pre-peeled browns fast because peeling breaks the outer cells and starts the clock. the wrapper is the preservative.

why would there ever be the need for pre peeled garlic? I understand precut or pre peeled for other veggies like potatoes and carrots for old/disabled people, but garlic?

  2. You brought up pre-peeled potatoes and carrots for old and disabled people but apparently forgot that garlic is also an extreme pain in the ass to peel? Anyone who uses a lot of garlic would benefit from pre-peeled but usually it comes in a large container. Keeps for quite a while in the fridge.

These aren't pre-peeled, most pre-peeled garlic is in vacuum sealed bags for preservation. These are whole ass garlics wrapped in plastic, which is unnecessary. The plastic reduced the air flow and that's why they turned brown (I googled it when I saw them turning)
