I debated between the two on the sixth chance and chose poorly…

Honestly, the dumb thing about hard mode is this situation isn't even a skill issue, just straight chance

From what I understand you don't try potential words that have multiple options that cause the above situation, so you have to be more creative with your word choices to eliminate as many letters without choosing words that can screw you over, that's just what I've heard from others and it makes sense, I'm happy to stay on regular mode

Not exactly... If youre going to play hard mode you must be aware of the hard mode traps. OP walked right into it. You have to try other consonants before locking yourself into a trap.

Well you can try to avoid guessing words with a dozen rhymes that early in the game. For instance never guess something ending in ---ER near the start.

Then don't guess an _OUND word when you know you're likely to get locked into _OUND. You need to use N and O, try to get more letters by guessing things like PRION or SWOON.

You have to respect any yellow or green tiles you already have - so in the above example cannot use any words that *don't* have the form _OUND

So OP was just kind of forced into selective elimination, their luck was too good on the first two guesses

They shouldn’t have guessed that second word because there’s too many similar words

In hard mode you have to use whatever letters you’ve already revealed as being in the word

You have to use the letters you guess correctly.

For instance, my first two guesses are SLATE then ONIUM, for all the vowels and common consonants.

But let's say the word was MINER, my next guess must have E in it, so I can't use ONIUM to weed out letters.

You have to use all of your yellow letters in the rest of your guesses and you have to leave green letters where they are.
