Advice At what point did FDs become part of your investment strategy?

I’ve been thinking about this because my approach to money has changed quite a bit over the years.
When I was younger, I basically thought investing = mutual funds/SIPs/stocks. FDs were something my parents did.
Now that I have more savings sitting around, I’m starting to wonder whether having some money in an FD actually makes sense.
I still don’t completely get the trade-off though. If I know I won’t need the money, why not invest it somewhere else? But if I might need it, why lock it away?
For those of you in your 30s/40s — are FDs actually a part of your investment strategy?
If yes, what role do they play for you? Safety, emergency money, a short-term goal, just parking spare cash?
And if you’ve deliberately stayed away from them, why?
Would genuinely like to know

Politics Gen X was Trumps biggest voting block in 2024.

While Gen Z was the smallest voting block for Trump while second biggest voting block for Trump was Boomers and then our Generation Millennials. Around 92% of Black Women voted for Harris and 78% of Black Men also voted for Harris. White Women where the only race of Women that a majority voted for Trump. White Men and Hispanic Men where the 2 races of Men that where majority vote for Trump. Now the biggest was the non voter not voting.

Nostalgia millennials, what are your thoughts on My Chemical Romance: Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge Era (2004-2006)

I was born in 1987 so I was around 17-18 when they became unavoidable. I also went to see them on Warped Tour 2005 with my girlfriend. I didn`t really enjoy them after 2006 because they sold out. Three cheers is their best era. I remember having a dial up on my computer and myspace crashing on it. I begged my parents for broadband but they didn`t buy broadband until 2009. I recently went to see them at comerica park in detroit as a 39 year old grown man with my 37 year old wife.

Nostalgia 4 Questions

I am considerably older than you millenials. So my (perhaps clueless) questions cover the last 35 to 40 years:

1) When did young people start wearing dark glasses (not at the beach) esp round ones that make them look blind? Is this associated with computer use? With hipsterism?

  1. When did it become acceptable to wear open toed shoes and flipflops (again, off the beach, in urban settings) ... slowing down walking speed noticeably?

  2. What is the history of septum piercings?

  3. Can anyone map the spread of tattoos and their primary fashion types?

  4. When did the current male fashion trend of wristwatch wearing begin?

Geographical differences can be noted.

If you are young you might think that current trends are normal or just not be intellectually curious about them. AI might have an answer to some questions but AI can be wrong, and granular detail is needed...Hence the request for the "wisdom of the (intergenerational) crowd" based on actual experience..

Politics Gen Z was warned not to vote for Trump in 2024, but they wanted the “vibes”

Post image
1.5k Upvotes

Gen Z here, Millennials did warn my generation bout the dangers of Project 2025, but unfortunately, Gen Z thought the “vibes” were more important to them than actually listening to the potential consequences of Trump being back in office. Now they’re suffering the consequences of the mistakes that they did and they got no one to blame but themselves. Also, Gen Z was old enough to know that Trump was the president in 2017-2021, but apparently they blamed Biden for supposedly ruining their high school and college years.

Nostalgia I miss when the internet felt like somewhere you visited instead of somewhere you lived

I was thinking about this the other day while mindlessly switching between apps on my phone.

When I was younger, going online felt like an activity. I'd sit down at the family computer, log onto MSN/AIM, check a few websites, maybe play some games, and eventually get off because someone else needed the computer or I had something else to do. When you walked away from the computer, you were basically offline.

Now there isn't really an "offline." I wake up and check my phone before getting out of bed. Messages follow me everywhere. Work can reach me at home. If I'm waiting in line for two minutes, I'm scrolling something without even thinking about it. I'm not saying the old internet was better in every way. Half the stuff we can do today would've seemed impossible back then. I just miss that separation.

The internet used to feel like a place I chose to visit. Now it feels like the place where most of life happens, and occasionally I put my phone down and leave it.

IRL 📷 Hip injury from general sleep/exercise. Tips? (Also, is this life now?)

I aggravated something sleeping weird I think, then exercised 4 days in a row and I am BROKEN! It has been weeks and I am hobbling around in a lot of pain. I am going to physio and apparently this is quite normal for a (very) late 30s person - hip joint gets angry and fucks with mobility etc for longer than it really should. I'm doing my exercises religiously and have my heat/cold/Dr Hos/Theragun situation down pat but omg this will not heal. Any others out there have broken bodies because 40 is approaching and this is life now???

IRL 📷 Just turned 37 and already I got tinnitus after swimming.

Any of my fellow older millennials have this condition like me? Guess it’s the part of aging. I remember going swimming in my 20s and I never got tinnitus until now. Fortunately my hearing is improving week by week but the ringing isn’t as intense as it was at the onset. Hopefully a couple months later the ringing will be nonexistent
