Tech Question Predator 212cc

I'm going to be upgrading my rod to a billet rod on my predator 212cc and I plan on installing it while the crankshaft is still in along with the rest of the engine I'm worried about my clearance and I don't know how to use Plastigage and remove the crankshaft and check the clearance with a plastigage is that a must or will I be fine, thanks for all the help!

Some will argue but I've installed billet rods on multiple motors without checking clearances and haven't had a issue yet. All ARC rods not cheap amazon knock-offs

You dont need plastigauge you can use a micrometer. The crankshaft just pops right out of the motor when you have the rod and flywheel taken off so theres no reason you cant check.

I think most people just throw them in without checking though

I generally replace the flywheel, connecting rod and cam at the same time. If your modding your engine, it’s a waste of time to not do them all at once. There’s no reason not to remove the crankshaft. I use high quality calipers to check clearance. I’ve done at least a dozen and never found one out of spec. Make sure you have the correct socket. I believe it’s a 12 point 1/4 inch in either 1/4 or 38 drive depending on what torque wrench you have.
