Layout The start of something beautiful

Been stocking up on track and stuff for a while, finally have room to start building my layout. Aiming for something that is fairly simple to run and can go on DC but still has some operational variety.

Help Needed GWR inspired pride livery

Hi all! Currently working on my concept art for my northern rail class 43 and started working on a pride livery for shits and giggles.

The power car is the current progress flag and the dummy car is the transgender flag. We’re debating and trying to include the queer chevrons but not sure now to include them at the moment.

Where would be the best place to include the queer chevrons and Whsts the best way to apply the flags and any other inclusions to the livery we make?

Thank you all for any advice if possible

Locomotives Ned a little AF help …

Post image
Upvotes

I’m strictly an O gauge 3 rail guy. I have no S gauge track or trains. But I inherited this AF 302 loco. My question is this: if I put 16VAC on these two terminals, should the motor run? It seems totally dead yet the rotor turns easily by hand.
Thanks for any info.

Question Hi, does anyone know what this train brand might be? (not a collector)

So I'm doing some early prep for christmas and I'm making general lists of what to get people. My boyfriend is a model collector, and he really loves model trains. He likes model planes too, but I feel like the trains would be a bigger deal and he dosen't normally buy them as they are expensive. I think he collects in 1:144 scale? I figured out from his instagram that that's the size of the planes he colelcts, and they all seem the same size in his display cabinet. He specifically likes world war 2 trains? or maybe its world war 1. Its a uk model railway company and they range from 50-500 apparantley. They have lights inside that connect up to the rails i think, idk the lights come from somewhere anyways. And theres also light kits you can buy? The carriages for the trains do be 50 quid. This is all the information I remember, but he never mentions the brand, or if he does I can't retain the information every time he says it. I've seen him browsing the site before and it seems to be a white background, and its a uk based brand. And the import costs make it hard to get here and expensive, so thats why its a big deal for him to get some. If anyone can make sense of this and possibly knows what brand it would be, that would be amazing!!! Thank you so much in advance!

Ive included images of a model train he has from his instagram. I think he only collects in one specific brand, and he has a few hes inherited from his grandad as well. This might be a modern enough one though. And the caption on the post was this ''N gauge Q1 class in br black. Needed a little weight but runs very well its a 4 wheel drive tender driven loco. Its very well made too and i have had no maintenance issues so far (fingers crossed)''. I've included the caption because it has information but I just don't understand it or know what to do with it lol.

Rolling Stock Passenger Stock Suggestions for A&WP 290

Upvotes

Hello! I have been a pretty avid O scale modeler, usually collecting more California and west coast US related trains such as a set of CalTrain K-Line bi-levels with a matching F40PH along with miscellaneous Amtrak, BNSF/ Santa Fe, and Union Pacific locos and stock.

About 5-7 years ago, my father noticed I didn't have much steam power in my collection besides an older PRR play scale set he gave me back when I was a kid. He isn't too involved into the hobby but he has just as much fun as I do running the little trains. After this realization he went out and gifted me a Lionel Legacy Atlanta and West Point #290 pacific. I absolutely loved it! First ever Legacy engine I owned!

Loco page: https://www.lionel.com/products/atlanta-west-point-legacy-usra-pacific-290-6-85170/

I usually run it with a whole bunch of miscellaneous stock, some days it runs excursion trains with B&O and Santa Fe stock, sometimes it gets to run with Amtrak superliners, and some days it gets sent to do switching work.

I'm looking to get #290 some dedicated passenger/rolling stock cars for her to run with. I do not know too much about the Atlanta and West Point road, the West Point route or much southern history in general so I'd love to hear some suggestions about possible historical/time period pairing choices!

Would definitely appreciate any and all brand/railroad suggestions! I know Golden Gate Depot may have some West Point sets but I'm saving to get those once I get a more solid layout going.

Thanks!

Question Models of locomotives featured in Microsoft Train Simulator.

I've been struck with the desire to track down models of all the locomotives that were drivable in MSTS. I think most of them will be pretty easy, if anything it may be hard to choose from all the options.

I was thinking of starting with the 2 Steam locomotives. The Flying Scotsman is simple enough, but the Golsdoarf 380 is proving to be a challenge. Does that loco go by another name or has it just never been done in HO or OO?

hi complete newbie when it comes to the hobby. I'm looking for somewhere in the UK that does really small rolls of tape for engine lining as opposed to waterslide transfers cause I always always screw them up.

Hi All! Massive newbie when it comes to trains and like most mums, my 2 year old boy is obsessed with trains. We picked up a lovely model train for £3 so I dont expect any miracles but can anyone tell me if I could salvage it? I cant even figure out if it takes batteries or not. I am happy to learn a new skill here it it means I can restore the train for him.

Electrical Best DCC System Upgrade

Does anybody have a good upgrade recommendation from an MRC Prodigy Express2 System? Mine works awesome, but I have a 9x11 ft layout and it doesn't really allow for me to run more than a few engines before it can't handle it. Even worse when some of them are sound. I need an upgrade that won't kill my wallet, but can handle maybe 8 engines running at a time, sound and non sound.
