Vraag / Discussie Paperwork when buying used bike

Hi, so soon I will go visit a bike that I have seen in marktplaats.

A part from the technical aspects checking, i am a bit insure on what to do in terms of paperwork.

For instance how do I register the vehicle under my name with the RDW?

Do I need to make sure the vehicle is not under the seller name anymore?

What papers should he given to me?

If I buy it that day can i take it home or should it be registered?

If I am missing more details, please let me know! I would appreciate it!

Hi, you can go to a post office with the registration card and a full 8 number code (tenaamstelingscode) that the seller should have. Most of the time the seller will come along and there you can transfer the registration.

(Appearantly you can also do it online nowadays if you have DigiD)

At this point you need insurance to ride it, you can arrange this online or over the phone with the insurer or your choice.

online only works if you have a dutch driver’s license, fyi. otherwise you have to go to the RDW office (not a Primera or service point, the actual office)

also make sure you set up insurance. you can usually do that online on the spot, some companies you have to talk to an advisor first (ASR for example)

I do have a dutch license so that shouldn't be a problem. I'm planning to get anwb as insurance, so I'll do it in the spot!

Good luck finding a place where they can still do this. Where I live at least the 10 stores that did this have either closed or stopped providing this service.

Id suggest just doing it online, takes 3 minutes.

Personally I like the post office, they can answer any questions you have and make sure it is done right. But that's just me.
