Looking to move from MN to TX, pods quoted about 3-4k for a medium sized storage container which imo is kind of absurd. Looking for any alternatives yall have used that was efficient and worth the $? We have about 30-40 medium sized boxes, no furniture.

It is 55 pounds. I have never had a PC that heavy before. How do I move this? I had another PC I moved before and wrapped it in towels and blankets. However with this PC basically being twice the weight and it's got curved glass. I'm thinking I want to remove the glass possibly to make sure it doesn't break. Is that necessary? I feel like it is also risky because it's not protecting the internals of the PC at that point. But perhaps using slim fitting type towels around the pc to provide cushioning without having a comforter pressing into the inside of the pc.

This is my first major transition, and I'm transitioning from Michigan to Maryland on September 10.

I've lived in Michigan my entire life, so leaving the state feels like a really big deal. I've been preparing for this for a while, but now that I'm only 10 days away, it's finally starting to feel real.

There's been a lot to figure out. The packing, getting everything ready, figuring out transportation, dealing with work and money, and trying to make sure I actually have everything together before I leave.

I'm excited, nervous, and honestly a little overwhelmed at the same time. 😂

For anyone who's made a big move to another state, what was it like when you finally got down to those last few days? Did it feel real before you left, or did it not really hit you until you were actually on the road?

I am moving a lot of states away to be closer to my sister in a couple of months-ish and can’t get over the mental block of thinking that I can’t. What are some tips to make it less scary? I’m already staying with her until I find a job and housing and get on my feet but I can’t help but feel like I have no control over anything.

I am a single 29(F) and I've lived in Utah for all my life. I'm hitting that point where I don't enjoy living in this state anymore and frankly want to change things up. I have been thinking of moving to the upper New York state area (Albany area in particular) for awhile now as it has a lot of things I'd like to do more of like hiking, going to NYC itself, not to mention some of my friends live up there.

The current plan would be to move back with parents to save money then move out there sometime in 2028. I would not roommate with said friends mentioned earlier for reasons and am thinking of maybe buying a house out there. I am also in talks with my job of possibly working remote, it's a high chance but that's not a grantee so I'm planning this in mind with that chance of things not working out on that front hence why I'm thinking the Albany area for a higher chance of finding a new job if I have to leave my current job compared to if I moved somewhere far out in upstate.

I have been to NYC itself so I'm familiar with that part but less so with the upstate area but from what I understand it's somewhat more affordable up there not to mention quieter with more nature.

My question to you guys is would the Albany area be good fit for someone like me or would it be better to search somewhere else in the state to live or choose another state entirely?

Have you heard of an insurance that covers you in more than one state at a time? Do I need to own 2 insurance policies?

I'm planning on moving states but my work and older family members are in my home state. My job doesn't offer health insurance. Right now my dream would be to travel to my home state whenever needed. I can drive out if someone ends up in the hospital and stay with them if needed. I have a lot of prescriptions and my husband is accident prone. It would be ease of mind knowing if he needs to go to the hospital, he will be covered.

We are a married couple m55 f49. we have 3 children that all live with us yet. 22,20, 18, and our last is a senior in high school. We have lived in Michigan our entire life, and the winters here are getting too much, especially with my wife and her health issues. She wants to move south, and she could leave tomorrow if I had a job lined up. But the problem I'm having is I feel like I'm abandoning the kids by moving as 2 of them don't want to go. I thought to keep the house for the time being and let them rent from us just to cover the mortgage. So that way, I don't feel like I'm just throwing them out. Rent in West Michigan is high to get an apartment even if you could find one. We both would love to be out of the winters, and plus it would be nice to be on our own again after 22 years of raising kids and would like a fresh start. Ideally, she would stop working after we get moved, so I would be the only breadwinner. We like Tennessee and South, and we both love Florida, and living in Michigan is getting outrageous expenses here. With auto insurance and high taxes and don't even get me started on the electricity rates that we pay now, plus the new taxes on gas we are at least. 50 a gallon more for gas than these states that we would like to move to.

So I guess my questions are.. If you had older kids, what did you do about moving and not feel like you are abandoning them? Are we fools for this time of our life to up and start over? I guess if anyone has experience that they would share, we would love to hear about it.I plan on working for as long as I'm able to because otherwise, I'm the type that gets bored.

I’m currently living in Massachusetts and moving out, leaving the state, in October. I’m trying to figure out what to do about my address.

My timeline:
* Nov-Dec: Staying in Canada for ~2 months at my parents’ house.
* Jan-Mar: Staying in California for ~3 months, either in an Airbnb apartment or temporary student housing (taking a class at UCLA). Likely no conventional lease, address TBD.
* After March: TBD. Likely permanently moving to Canada, possibly California. Definitely not returning to MA.
* I’m a dual US/Canadian citizen and work remotely for a US employer, which allows temporary time in Canada/CA.
* I have an MA driver’s license, which I plan to keep.
No car, so registration isn’t an issue.

The main issue is mail and maintaining my U.S. financial accounts. I generally receive very little important mail, but this overlaps with tax season, so I want a reliable way to receive sensitive tax/financial documents.

I think some institutions require a physical/residential address, where a PO box might not work?

Options I’m considering include a virtual mailbox/mail forwarding service, PO box, using a friend’s/family member’s address, or using whatever physical address I’m staying at.

I do have a family member in Maryland whose address I could potentially use as a mailing/contact address, but I don’t want to complicate things with taxes, health insurance, etc.

What would make the most sense in my situation?

I don't know if this is the right flare, since I guess technically nothing has gone wrong yet, but I am looking for advice on how to handle this situation. I arranged all of this back in May, got quotes, scheduled everything, etc. Back then, they were a 5 star reviewed company everywhere, but I've started to see stuff popping up on Yelp that makes me nervous.

My things were picked up August 15th, and we paid for them to be shipped to Seattle and stored there until our new lease starts on September 4th (this Friday). My partner and I have been living in an Airbnb for the interim. We moved up here because I was accepted to a PhD program that is starting in a few weeks. Now, I'm trying to call them and figure out what time my things are arriving, but I can't get ahold of anyone. I had a personal moving consultant assigned to my move, who I called regularly throughout the process to update our quote, to coordinate timing, etc. but he hasn't picked up my calls since the day my things were picked up. I try calling the main line for the company and what used to happen was that there were three options, you'd hit a number to select one, and you'd be routed to a person. Now, I press 3 to select "Update on my Move" or whatever, and it asks you to input an extension. This is the case for any selectable option, as far as I can tell. If you don't provide one, or enter a random number, it just hangs up on you. The only contact form they have on their website is asking for a new quote, and I have done that just to try to get someone to contact me.

I don't know what to do. A huge part of me wants to believe that things are just messy over there and they haven't had a chance to get back to me, but not being able to get ahold of them at all is starting to really, really freak me out. At this point, what do I do? How do I move forward from here?

I’m moving across the country in about two weeks and I’m trying to figure out how I’m possibly going to fit everything I need into my car.
I have 3 dogs, so a significant amount of the car is automatically going to be taken up by them. I also need to bring dog food and their bowls, water, etc.

The problem is that this is all going into a 2016 Nissan Sentra, and I’m looking at everything thinking… there is absolutely no fucking way. 😂

I have about 20 pictures to pack, some large and some medium sized. Boxes are way too expensive. What are some ways to move them? I don’t have many sheets or blankets. Glass and metal frames on several big ones.

Is it possible to rent a large passenger or transit van for a cross-country move?

We have a 55 lb dog and need to drive (I will not put her in plane cargo) and I can't fathom doing it in a moving truck or van, so I'm wondering if this is an option. It will be more comfortable for everyone if she has a whole row of seats. The rest of the space would be used for clothes/personal items and whatever else isn't being shipped.

A family member recently passed away. I need to fly to TN and prepare items to be shipped back to CA. I don’t anticipate needing to ship the entire house, probably the equivalent of a studio apartment worth of stuff.

Does anyone have any recommendations on the most cost effective way to do this? A lot of these pod company’s charge a couple thousand dollars.

Have anyone just done packing boxes and shipping through UPS or USPS?

I’ve considered driving and getting a U-Haul on the way back but the drive is 30+ hours.

Me and my partner moved across the country about a month ago, and the movers showed up today with our stuff (finally - different story).

One box seems to be missing - the one from my partners office that had their diplomas as well as a couple other things from their office. The box was not included on the inventory and we did not notice it was missing until a couple hours after the movers left.

On top of that, we believe the movers picking up our stuff broke a glass monthly calendar in the same box; there was a pile of glass with black lines on it at the bottom of our apartment stairs.

Is it possible that the movers broke it then threw the whole box away to hide their error? Has anyone else ever been in a similar situation, and what (if any) recourses do we have? They broke a couple other items so I’m not putting anything past them at this point.

I’m interested in hearing what peoples experiences were with you packing in a semi at the terminal, not the u-pack containers, and locking it off yourself. Was it dirty inside the container? Anything I should really be aware of? I was told to get moving blankets for my couch but that was it. I have mostly boxes, a couch and a bed which is why i’m doing the shipping at the terminal. I’m also coming out of a condo so I couldn’t have a upack container dropped off here, hence the terminal packing. Any details help, thanks!

I got an estimate for my move that is binding, but their estimated weights seem pretty inflated to me. They offered to use a weigh station for an $18 fee, and I would be charged the exact price of $0.60/lb plus their fees instead of the binding estimate. This seems like the way to go, but I was looking for some advice on the matter, if anyone has gone this route and used an actual weigh station etc - first time using movers and I don't know what I don't know I guess

Essentially 2 bedrooms worth of stuff with only 1 bed, two dressers, a few light side tables and cabinets. None of it is particularly heavy and they got my at ~2750lbs

I am currently planning a move from Conroe, TX to Chicago for October and I am trying to gauge timelines and when I should expect my stuff to arrive.

I am debating between PODS, U-Pack or another moving container as I won’t have a car in Chicago. I would like to ship my stuff by around October 2-4 and arrive a week later.

Curious on if anyone has insight into the timeline this could be and how much I could expect cost-wise? I’ve heard UPack is cheaper than PODS and is faster, but I’m not entirely sure as I’ve never done a major cross country move like this before.

Does anyone know the interior cab dimensions of a 26' penske truck? I am moving across country with my 60 lb dog and my plan is to build a platform that i can put blankets on for him to lay on during the drive. My plan is make a platform that will be slightly narrower than the passenger seat with a length running from the end of the passenger seat (where the seat cushion meets the back) to a couple inches in front of the dash/glove box. I will make a small frame (to support the portion that hangs off the seat) that will support the front end of it. I am trying to find:

1. The distance from the end of the passenger seat (where the cushion meets the back) to the dash/glove box.

2. The width of the passenger seat.

3. The height of the passenger seat.

I just went through a breakup 2 weeks ago in NY. I'm staying at "our" apartment for 5 more weeks until I go to France for work from October-December. I'm potentially thinking of staying elsewhere in Europe for 1+ months after, starting January. I could be there 1 month or who knows, 6, or a year. Given the uncertainty, I'm unsure what to do with my things.

My parents have a house I can move some things into, but not enough space for it all--I have a couch, tables, large desk, bookshelf, art, etc., among other things. Should I just put it all into storage somewhere and pay as I go? Should I put some things (and if so, any strategic suggestions as to what) at their house and otheres in storage?

So I'm currently living in a nothing burger of a town called Rittman, and my lease date is coming up soon (even though I'm thinking of breaking it due to my neighbor's dog barking all day at times and putting me on edge). I don't really have any reason to stay in Ohio anymore, besides convenience, so I'm thinking of moving to somewhere in PST since my friend lives in California (I would move there, but the traffic/crowded roads makes me anxious as hell, plus I doubt I can afford a nice place by myself), but if thats not possible with my budget (1.3k a month for rent), then I guess I'd take a recommendation for a nice city in Ohio.

Hi everyone! I (26, non-binary) currently live in the DFW area, and I am so ready for change. For reference, I've lived in Texas my whole life and have finally gotten to a point in my life where I am mostly independent and can make choices that will better my mental/physical health. I am open to pretty much anywhere, but I do have a general vibe that I'm looking for: City vibes are nice - so far I've heard that Chicago, Portland, and Seattle fit my personality and social needs; BUT I also really enjoy more scenic, quiet towns/places where I can wind down and potentially start a business in future (The dream is to open a Romace specific bookstore in a few years, but I also realise that life can take you on different journies). Initially, I was asking about the West Coast - more closely coastal OR and WA, as well as Coastal/ Middle CA. However, part of me has always longed for Chicago.

I'm working to set myself up for success by finding a well-paying job that would allow me to transition smoothly to any state in the US, but I think it's very important to be well-informed and prepared for wherever life takes me. Alongside your suggestions, could you include any important info that I'd need to know or research about that location - Average rent/utilities in that area, minimum wage (TX is 7.25/hr so it can only go up from here, I hope), is the area car-friendly/if I'll be paying a lot in the long run if I keep it, and any other important info. 2. I have two ESA cats - I will have to look into getting them recertified in the state that I move to.

my family and I (myself, husband and 5 kids- 3 of whom are in school) are moving soon. We need our sale to be final on our apartment before finding and putting offers in on a house. Because of this there will very likely be a while where we are without a home. I have a family house about 2 hours away that I can stay with the kids for the in between time. the problem is… my kids are going to have to start at their old school for a month or 2, switch to their temporary school for x-amount of time and then finally (most likely after a few months) switch to their permanent school. anyone had to do this? please tell me I’m not a horrible mom ruining their lives.

We booked packrat initially because our move in timeline is unknown. The closing date for our house gives the seller 10 days of extra time so we don't know exactly when we can move in. Our plans changed and we wanted to cancel but the only way to cancel is by calling them and they take forever to take a phone call. Just a very unfriendly customer experience.

I need some help deciding on the moving quotes and estimates for my upcoming move. Allied Van Lines is quoting me around $9600 for a 4000lbs across 3100 miles [ I am moving from Boston to San Jose]. The quote also includes packing. I believe my total cargo weight should not be more than 1500 lbs since I do not have any heavy furniture or special items. How much should this move typically cost? [1500lbs across 3000 miles].

What do you guys think about this quote price? Is it a high or standard price for my requirements? This is my first time making such a large move, so I am trying to get an idea of the moving cost.
