Like People only care about countries America,China, Russia, Germany Japan,India, and don't care about smaller countries like plenty of African countries, only seeing them as Africa as whole or other countries that don't have much of international presense like Uzbekistan or others.

It’s not exactly equivalent, an analogue would be like if there was a lot of humanitarian cleanup in the waterfall village and economic stimulus in the grass village but the Leaf just let the rain village stay fucked up after they caused it a couple generations back

u/LightningLass77 6d ago
Konoha: "Why? Because fuck Hanzo that's why."
3
u/MagicBus4 6d ago
Hanzo was a hated enough mf that the hidden villages avoided the Rain for like 10 years after he was dead lol
Who knows how long everybody would have stayed out of there if Nagato decided to just chill and rule the place
1
u/Dry_Click6496 5d ago
It was less that he was hated and more that he was deadly enough that he just killed any Ninja entering Amegakure to fight their proxy wars. He didnt tolerate the big nations to fight wars in his city and was strong enough to enforce that.
The smaller nations and villages just arent strong enough to have any competition with the big 5 so they are more buffer nations and the places the fighting happens.

u/Fun-Cartographer-368 6d ago
That was the situation of the world as a whole too before the world connected

u/Shgon_Dunstan 7d ago
The reason they’re minor villages in the first place, is they’re a lot smaller than the major ones. Often seemingly made up of only a couple of clans, with their whole continued existence being heavily wrapped up around some kind of ace in the hole, such as one super strong ninja, or what have you.
Like, if the five major ones are “villages”, the minor ones are more just a handful of houses that happen to be close together.🤷♂️

u/Cubedtails 7d ago
Based on what I know Technically other villages exist like Orochimaru's Hidden Sound Village which probably train some Jutsu users; but those are not developed countries fit to train Shinobi in mass. Like Fu's village Takigakure aka the Hidden Waterfall Village; has no specific country name and is not relevant really. Showing an abnormality as a village not of the great 5, likely training some ninja; but does not have the mass resources to be a great hidden village despite never been successfully invaded. I am willing to bet, to be a great Hidden village; requires massive resources in a global power to field a lot of shinobi.

u/Right-Truck1859 7d ago
Dude, Sound village was fake.
It were just mercenaries or people loyal to Orochimaru .
11
u/I_am_The_Teapot 7d ago
The sound village wasn't a central location, but was real. It was basically a network of all Orochimaru's hideouts, bases and labs and the like.
2
u/LightningLass77 6d ago
Honestly it made way more sense as a "village" of ninjas than Konoha did.
2
u/I_am_The_Teapot 6d ago
True. But unlike the Sound village, Konoha and other villages, aren't really meant to be just ninjas, though. The villages are basically the amalgamation of a number of clans. Many of which, or even most of the people in them, are not ninja at all. The villages were meant as safe haven for people and clans, with a promise to work together to protect each other rather than war with each other, along with others that were not part of any clan, or indeed not ninja or warriors at all. After Konoha was created, many other places attempted the same. They were not intended to solely be ninja.
Which is more accurate of many shinobi communites in real life. Which were mostly just a few specific agricultural communities mostly like any other, but also centered around and protected by some groups that trained people in spycraft and some guerilla-type warfare and many also working as mercenaries.
The Sound village in that world is the aberration, however. It was created solely to suit Orochimaru's ambitions, rather than a desire for peace and safety and whatnot. And as such there are no civilians, really. They're either ninja loyal to him and/or prisoners and test subjects.

u/Right-Truck1859 7d ago
Real location, but fake village
2
u/Eltorak95 6d ago
What makes something a village? They had houses, food, training, social structure.
3
u/Correct_Day_7791 7d ago
Not true it was a real place the land of rice fields
That had multiple shinobi clans in it the fuuma, the shiin , and the kaguya clans all are native to the land of rice fields
orochimaru made a play to create the sound village and got it sanctioned by the feudal Lord of the land
Even though the sound village isn't a singular location it is a real village although it's more of a series of labs and secret bases scattered throughout the world
This is why it was allowed entry Into the chunin exams and continues to exist in boruto

u/Right-Truck1859 7d ago

Tell that to kishimoto the author
And the 1.2 million copies sold in 2025
To give frame of reference one piece was the top selling at 4.2 million copies
Which sounds great until you realize that one piece releases 35 issues a year to borutos 12
Meaning that one piece sold 120,000 copies sold per issue
And boruto sold 100,000 per issue
It's doing just fine 🤣🤣

u/MagicBus4 6d ago
Bruh Kishi doesn’t write that. And let’s not forget one of the worst movies ever Jurassic World 3 (Jurassic Park 6) made infinite money. People like sequels
1
u/Correct_Day_7791 6d ago
And gege didn't write modulo
But the author decides what is canon not randos on the internet
He Said it is so it is
And if you think Jurassic park 6 is even in the conversation for bottom 20 movies all time
You must not have seen many movies there are at least 100 worse movies
Start with navy seals or battlefield earth 🤣

Kakazu was from Hidden Waterfall and Hidan was from Hidden Grass, they produce at least one freak each
7
u/Negative-Cabbages 7d ago
Hidan slaughtered one of them 😎
1
u/First_Temperature985 7d ago
No, he slaughtered some monks, not a hidden village.
1
u/Negative-Cabbages 7d ago
Well, yeah, but his backstory implies that he slaughtered his whole village before abondoning it, which is canonically Yugakure, the village hidden in the steam 👀 because the land of hot water defunded the ninja to transition to a peaceful nation of tourism, which led to the slaughter.
C'mon, bro
3
u/MagicBus4 6d ago
With all the bullshit overpowered mfs I’m a little surprised more of these villages haven’t been slaughtered. Deidara and Sasori could have killed the whole sand village after Gaara got got if they felt like it
2
u/First_Temperature985 6d ago
All of his village isn't dead either, it was them who hired to the Akatsuki to get rid of Hidan. They also appear in a novel later.
4
u/BingoManiac10 7d ago
They are major plot point since the start.
Tsunade even said that konoha is not one of the 5 great nations after oro's attack because of the sudden instability.
And we see many other nations and hidden villages mentioned. Them not mattering is like a huge plot point. So came the PAIN.

u/IlluminatingFire 7d ago
Yes Kakazu and Fu from the village hidden by a waterfall ~ Takigakure
Pain/Konan from village hidden in the rain ~ Amegakure
Etc.
3
u/experienceTHEjizz 7d ago
That's because they are the middle east of the shinobi world. All the other clans live in peace. The Canadian village lives peacefully. They exchange maple syrup with the Gun Village occasionally just to be on good terms.
3
u/chiksahlube 7d ago
Kakashi says the shinobi system is unique to the continent during the first arc of the show.
So we don't really know how the rest of the world wages war.
2
u/schmidty33333 7d ago
The second Part 1 movie, Legend of the Stone of Gelel, shows a faction of people seemingly from another continent. Naruto is able to form a rasengan using some of the energy they use in combat, so it's possible that their combat techniques involve chakra, even if the people have come to understand chakra differently.
2
u/CommanderYin 7d ago
I was hoping the next generation would be from a village that was in its infancy. But of course they can’t do that because Naruto leaf village merch is already established
2
u/Radical_Jinx 7d ago
Meh, Kishimoto likely introduced them for coolness factor and then didn't wanna deal with it later
In-universe they weren't even given a Tailed Beast so that tells you how much the 5 nations cared about them

The Rikudo events likely happened near Konoha (Valley of the End or Ushiogakure) and this manga is really about his descendants aka KG users.
I imagine that the further you get from the epicenter, the fewer shinobi and KG users you find. The shinobi living on the outskirts of the ninja world were probably pushed there by more powerful ninja.
My point is that there's no Madara level threat on the other side of the Naruro planet.

u/TinyPidgenofDOOM 6d ago
Bro we only see like... the size of Texas. theres an entire contenet and past that a WHOLE ASS WORLD of shit we diddnt see but somehow that tiny in relative size area is dealing with WORLD DESTRUCTION level of bullshit. All the places in naruto are like less than like 200 miles away from each other.
ALL that shit and we didnt leave the god damn continent. we didnt even see actual leaders. The Hokage are Mayors. The shogunate are the ones Ruling over the hokage. What do they have that puts them above Shinobi.
1
u/mrmanny0099 6d ago
Nobody cares about them because Kishimoto didn’t care about them.
Hell Kishimoto barely cared about any of the major villages outside of Konoha and even that’s mainly for Senju, Uchiha, Minato and Naruto glaze.
You have an entire civil war and bloodstained era of history in Kirigakure where the graduation exam for their ninja academy was a culling game where only one student was left standing a year. And very clearly it went on for decades until Ms. ‘my only personality trait given to me by kishimoto is flirting and wailing about wanting to get hitched with a man’ Mei. But because Kiri isn’t Konoha kishimoto gave negative shits about it

u/emptyvodka115 5d ago
I thought it was stated that the students there had to do 1v1 fights and the winners of each 1v1 who survived became ninja. But then one day a child walked up and slaughtered all 100 students which was zabuza. He changed the game they weren’t doing it that way off the rip

u/Trick_Discipline6840 6d ago
I mean, by similar extension, have you ever heard of (or care about) real world countries like Latvia, Tuvalu, Lesotho & Bhutan? ... No? ... 🤷🏻♂️

u/D3ad3y3s0ny0u 6d ago
I was really hoping boruto would have naruto and sasuke focusing on the world ending otsutsuki threats whilst boruto and the like explored the world more maybe even fucked off to a new continent but it wasnt to be

Hidden Grass was invaded by the hidden stone during third great ninja wars - This kinda speaks that some smaller nations with ninjas can't hold a candle against one of the five greats and this makes me interest to the grass, how they survive if they rely on ninja work?

u/Certain_Presence7962 5d ago
I mean the world building kinda sucks in Naruto. I doubt most people even realized the five major villages are just a small section of a larger country and the Kages are basically just military leaders who actually answer to a higher authority.

There are dozens of little villages and countries. They are not swallowed up by the big five because the shinobi are not actually ruling anything. Shinobi don't administrate territory or make treaties. They all serve the civilian daiymo of their region.
If hiruzen decided to annex the land of waves and the fire daiymo told him to stop, that's it, war over. He wouldn't even need to give a reason, like possibly causing a war with kiri who could see the land grab as a preparation for war against them, or having a noble friend who holds land/business in another small country.
1
u/Swetcan 5d ago
100% true
the smaller villages weren't even involved in the 4th great ninja war which is ridiculous.
the smaller villages should have aligned with the Akatski initially, as a sort of opportunistic chance to take down the 5 great nations, before eventually changing sides as things went on.
1
1
u/SelectSympathy5718 5d ago
That’s a mayor plot point. Pain’s motivation was to get revenge in name of his small country that got caught in the middle of two giants during a war

The five major countries. Are the 5 leading the continents. Land of fire land of water land of earth etc. the rest of the hidden villages are spread throughout these lands. While still having their own village chiefs. Most default to the higher power. Hokage raikage. Kazikage. And the rest

This is I believe, actually a major plot point, in-world. Nobody cares about them. Or the consequences the wars visit on these countries that become battlefields like the Rain Village country. That Konoha didn't care enough about the people they hurt there and left the country in ruins. Further evidenced by the fact that despite spending a fair amount of time in the manga there, we don't even know the name of that country. Only the Rain Village.
You see ninja from other non Big 5 nations, too. Like the grass village is also shown early in the chunin exams.
