We have had the NBN initial site survey today. We are a 3 story, double brick building, with the NBN access entering the building in the garage via existing piping. From this point, there is conduit that goes up through the riser to the top floor comms box. NBN team said this is very easy and straightforward.

The team onsite today said, top floor is easy as roof access is possible. However, as there is no comms box on each level, they will be drilling through the concrete slabs and running conduit down to the two floors below. They will then run cabling along the cornice (covered with 3M tape) to each unit entrance door where a port will be placed.

Those units who wish to have the installation into their premises will then get cabling from the door, along cornices (with 3M tape) to a location in their unit where they want the port.

To me it seems quite messy, but with solid walls and no access into wall space (with exception of top floor who have roof space access) I guess there is no other option?

Keen to see pics or hear from anyone in a similar unit block and what this actually looks like in the common area and within your unit. Are we going to have wiring and piping throughout common areas and then wiring along cornices in peoples units?

Hi, I decided on Dodo as my ISP last week, and they are sending an nbn tech over to check on my homes HFC, doesnt work. However, I realised after reading about them here, they arent a very good option. What is my best course of action, I am on a byo monthly plan so no modems to be paid for, what is the best value isp for gaming and working from home? Hi. We’ve just moved into a new house and I have a question about my NBN and Router.

In my garage I have 5 Ethernet ports and 5 rooms that have Ethernet linking back to the garage. I have a switch in the garage which is currently hooked up to my router.
We’re using an eero 7.
How do I move the eero to another room because the garage hinders the current wifi signal.

Is it as simple as plugging the Ethernet cable into the NBN box then connecting the nbn box to the room I want the eero in or is it more difficult than that?

As the title says. I am moving out alone with a couple of mates and we were looking for internet to get.

On this subreddit everyone keeps suggesting aussie, esp bc of its customer support. But is customer support really that important?? I dont want to be spending an extra $10 a month or even more if thats all thats diffrent.

The place that we are moving into doesnt support 5G, so that immediatly raised the price. We also dont have a modem or anything.

So any suggestions on who to go with, what to do and what to get is greatly appriciated.

I've decided to go with Leaptel (FTTP NBN 500/50) because of recommendations and cheap pricing, but I'm not sure if I should go with their Eero 7 modem/router or BYO. I'm in a 3 bedroom house, pretty much the only person here who'll be using it, but I was hoping to use ethernet connections to take full advantage of the speeds and from what I understand there's only two ports, afaik one of them is used to connect it to the NTD, so that only leaves me with one to use, but if I were to BYO I wouldn't know what to buy, besides something with more than two ethernet ports.

Our unit complex’s FTTP upgrade seems to be stuck and nobody can/will sort it out. Below is a summary of the situation. Looking for some “what now” advice.

April

• Strata submit multi-dwelling upgrade request after AGM vote.
• NBNCO deny and cancel our request, saying a competing request was already active.
• Inform us unit 6 had (somehow) already submitted an individual new build upgrade request and the entire complex would be upgraded as a result, without all units needing to pay the complex dwelling fee. All we had to so was wait. Nobody can explain how they were able to do this. Units are 8 years old, so not new build. And are a block of 8 attached townhouses with a common communications box, so should not have been able to submit an individual upgrade.
• NBNCO advise a completion date of June 30th for all units.

May

• Nothing.

June

• Site works undertaken by Ventia, three days total over three weeks.
• External grey NBNCO boxes installed on all units.
• Fibre run from pit to comms box at the front of the complex.
• Fibre splitter and reels of fibre installed into comms box for all units.
• Fibre reels tied to existing copper ready for “final mile” pull through for all units.
• Final result pictured.
• Common area site works completed by given date, but not final runs to individual units.

July

• Requests for updates from NBNCO by strata manager and owner's committee go unanswered.

August

• Seperate contractor pulls through the fibre run and installs internal box for unit 6 only. Unit 6 now has fully functional FTTP.
• Three weeks later, all other units still only show FTTN on ABB/Leaptel websites.
• NBNCO tells strata manager and owner's committee they have no updates to provide. Advise talking to our individual ISPs.
• As the owner who raised the initial upgrade at the AGM, strata manager asks me to pursue this with my ISP on his behalf.
• ABB support chat says they can see unit 6 is FTTP capable, all other units only show FTTN as orderable in their system.
• No option for any of us to order an upgrade with them to have our last mile installed. Say they can’t do anything until NBNCO changes the connection type in the system.
• Say the last mile should have been installed to all units at the same time as part of multi-dwelling upgrade, not just unit 6. Can’t explain why only unit 6 had this done.
• They say they don’t see any NBNCO upgrade work orders against our complex, pending or completed. Nothing shows work has been done or is to be done, for the complex or even for unit 6.
• As far as their system shows, we just have straight FTTN, except for unit 6, and nothing in the system indicates that this has recently been changed or is set to change.
• ABB files a complaint to NBNCO on our behalf.
• NBNCO immediately responds telling ABB to submit a “Service request for a Technology Query Service review”.
• ABB does this, says NBNCO will advise within 5 business days.
• NBNCO now over a week overdue on providing a response. ABB have resubmitted request.

This all just seems like a massive mess. Nobody seems able to get this sorted. ABB say at this point the best case scenario is for NBNCO to just flag the units as completed so we can place a FTTP order with them and have our last miles installed individually. But as there is no pending job against our complex in NBNCO’s system, they don’t see that just happening without some kind of push. They don’t seem very optimistic and don’t know what else to suggest. Strata manager and OC are livid at this point. Does anybody have any other suggestions on how on Earth we get this resolved?

Hey everyone. So just recently moved to Australia and yesterday I got my first place. This is a photo of the exact layout of my new apartment. I'll be putting a TV in same location as in the photo and if you see that tiny little door in the background there is a very shallow "closet" where the NBN box is located. It's not even deep enough to put my router in it. (Apt has FTTP). I just ordered 7m of flat Cat6 ethernet cable but honestly I don't know how to wire it without it looking very crappy. I guess i could see.if there is like a 20m cable and wrap it entirely around the base of my bedroom and back out to the living room?

We run a small coaching college in Penrith NSW. Our internet is our business - students do daily online tests.

On 18th Aug, our FTTP with Tangerine died overnight. No email, no SMS, no warning.

Tangerine's response: "Your NTD serial doesn't match the address in nbn's database. Please send photo. Wait 2-5 days."

We have been at the same address for years. Same box on the wall. We didn't change anything.

It's now 27th Aug - 9 days later. Still nothing. No tech, no update.

We panicked and ordered a second line with TPG on 24th Aug as backup. TPG said "your service is ready!" but it also doesn't work. Looks like nbn has blocked the whole Location ID.

How is this legal? How can nbn just change something in their database and cut off a paying customer with zero notice, then make us wait? And then block the second provider too?

TIO complaint lodged. But we are losing business, credit every day.

Is nbn doing some kind of national database audit? Anyone else in Western Sydney had their FTTP cut for "serial mismatch"?

If you run a small business, what is your contingency? We were never offered a 4G backup.

For those asking, yes we sent NTD photos, confirmed power/serials, tried new router. It's not a local fault. NBN Co has acknowledged internally it's a database issue I'm sure.

I've been messing around with a dial up modem I got off of ebay and have messed around with it since early this year. I found that connecting it to an nbn box registered with telstra with a home phone line makes the modem communicate much better than when connected to the grandstream or cisco atas I got earlier. My question is, because aussie broadband offers home phone on both nbn and atas, what would be the more stable option based on how well my modem can communicate properly?

At the moment I use crazytel. When I call a number the handshake is flawless when connected to the telstra landline, but when connected to my atas registered through crazytel, the handshake is ok, not terrible but not great either. It's really a 50/50. Sometimes it wiil connect, sometimes it won't.

Hi all, this is probably pretty common but i havent been able to find anything that could help me solve the issue.

I upgraded my router to a TP-Link AX3000 to take advantge of my FTTP 500mbps plan. Over ethernet we are golden, great speeds. My phone wifi also great speeds 400 - 500mbps. But my PC - with great connection, using wifi 6 and the 5ghz channel can only get around 200mbps.

I have tried a few things including increasing the width on the router to the 20/40/80/160 MHz option.

Wifi card is a Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz.

Anyone know what could be causing my issue?

Hi all, have tried to find something similar in this subreddit but no luck.

I recently upgraded my FTTC to FTTP via Tangerine (this was back in April). They soon had a NBN technician come out who has installed the new box in my house but then had some sort of issue with the external wiring on the property and said it would need “civil works”. I live in a block of units and everyone has signed off on the upgrades from a body corp POV.

They have now pushed back the “expected completion” 3 times (initially end April, then start of August) and is now saying mid-November. Is this normal? Anyone with a similar experience? From what I understand I can’t contact NBN directly and every time I speak with Tangerine they say there’s nothing they can do. Who can I escalate to? I think 7 months is a bit ridiculous

I've been looking at internet plans and iinet has 50mbps for $69.99 for the first months then $89.99, but 500mbps the same price but $5 more after the first six months.

Getting connected to fibre and a speed of 500 for almost the same price is the obvious choice. The only problem is I've moved into my dad's house and had to convince him his 100GB a month plan with a 5G wireless modem isn't enough because I use the internet a lot more than he does, mostly gaming and streaming, but he's old and hates change, and especially hates someone coming to work on his house for something he doesn't understand.

So my question is how much hassle is having FTTP installed? How long does the installation usually take, is there anything troublesome they don't like to tell you about? I could settle for 50mbps as I'd pretty much be the only one of us using it so I could handle it, but having a download speed of 500 would be an amazing quality of life improvement.

I know this is an annoying question because it's more of a personal question only I can answer, but I'm just looking for input.

Interesting. It looks like the Amazon LEO/NBN partnership is actually going ahead, and not years away either!

My understanding is that with the initial small LEO network, they're going to be concentrating on the southern hemisphere where they have customers such as NBN.

Should be good for regional Australians to get off the high latency sky muster, without paying the high prices of Starlink.

Sure starlink can do over 100Mbps, but this should be way cheaper, more like fixed wireless and sky muster.

Personally following the Blue origin rocket launches and issues, I wouldn't be surprised if the timeline slips a bit. But 12 months away is not too bad at all if they get close to it.

Edit: On another thought, given that it's set up like the normal nbn and the retailers are providing the data, I don't see any reason why retailers wouldn't be able to sell the layer 2 services over it. Would be quite convenient for businesses with regional presence.

So I am in the process of moving into a new place, will be subletting. It currently has no internet but the property is "nbn ready" for HFC, I don't have contact details for the landlord but need internet, currently trying to get said details but not sure if I will be able to prior to my installation tomorrow. What goes into an HFC installation and would a landlord actually take issue with an objective non intrusive upgrade to their property that's essentially free?

Second time this month I have had a weird issue

Internet stopped working, NBN NTD has all the lights green - and a connection test came back no issues but I still needed to restart my router to fix the issue. (Brand new Flint 2)

I thought it was just a local config issue
however my mate just messaged me and said the same thing happened to him today (Midday aswell)

• What would cause the NTD to stop providing internet to our router - but all the lights are still on?

• Any workarounds (like automatically service kicking at a designated time) that could be done to avoid this?

I’m an electrician (full cabling licence) living in a 7-unit strata townhouse complex in Sydney. NBN quoted us a build that uses ~200m of new surface-mounted conduit, 10 wall penetrations, and a mix of ceiling/wall cavity routing — plus new underground conduit for one unit that has no shared roof access.

The thing is, I’ve personally inspected our existing infrastructure: there’s a pit at the driveway with the main fibre line, a conduit running straight to our MDF, and then individual conduits running from the MDF to each of the 7 units (currently carrying old phone line pairs). It looks like this existing path could carry fibre with no digging, no external conduit, and no wall penetrations needed.

NBN’s own contractor and a separate electrician who came out both seemed to agree the ducts are likely usable, but NBN’s plan still went with the expensive build-out — possibly because contractors are paid per connection point regardless of complexity, so there’s no incentive to use the “harder to quote” simpler path.

My question: has anyone dealt with this before? Specifically — if we (the strata) pay an independently licensed cabler to test the existing conduits per unit (feed a fishing rope/pulling string through to confirm they’re clear and usable), and it works, will NBN actually accept using that existing conduit instead of their proposed build? Or do they just ignore it and go with whatever their contractor’s design says regardless?
