Post Approvals

Just a heads up that a few months ago I had to set up automod because of all the tshirt scam spam posts so now it flags anything with enough reports or if the poster doesn't meet a minimum karma threshold. I'm the only mod and I have to manually approve everything that gets flagged, so I apologize if it sometimes takes me like a day to approve posts.

Housing Apartment Search

I’ve graduated college and am currently living at home, but am looking into two-bedroom apartments in the New Brunswick/Rutgers area. I work at the St. Peter’s Hospital on Easton Ave and so would like to live relatively close by.

Budget: MAXIMUM $3000 per month, ideally in $2200-$2800 range

- New Brunswick/Highland park area
- Preferably a complex with Rutgers students/other young adults in their 20s
- In-building washer/dryer

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Handyman for an old lady

I’m looking for local recommendations for a handyman/contractor that can help with some work at my great aunt’s house in South River. She’s getting into her old age and needs some help around the house or someone reliable to call for fixing a wall, unclogging a drain, etc.

Thanks in Advance!

My improv group is doing a Love Island-themed comedy show in North Brunswick this Friday. It's completely unscripted and the audience gets to influence what happens.

Figured I'd throw it out there for anyone looking for something different to do !

Looking for a few New Brunswick barbershops to try a customer-retention tool I built

Hi everyone. I’m a New Jersey-based developer, and full disclosure, I built the product I’m posting about.

It helps barbershop owners understand:

  • How frequently do customers return
  • Which customers may be slipping away
  • Customer value and churn trends
  • When to follow up with customers who have not returned
  • Whether outreach is actually bringing customers back
  • Most importantly, it helps you understand your data and take action on it using the built-in AI

The system can also send personalized follow-ups to customers who have agreed to receive messages.

I’m opening a few pilot spots for independent barbershops in New Brunswick. I’ll help set everything up.

New Brunswick / Middlesex County adult hockey players — interest in weekly no-commitment games?

I’ve been working with StinkySocks Hockey on potentially bringing their No Commitment Hockey format to New Jersey, and I’m trying to get a better idea of how much interest there is from players around New Brunswick and the rest of Middlesex County.

For anyone unfamiliar with StinkySocks, the format is organized adult hockey where you register game-by-game instead of committing to a team and paying for an entire season. They handle the rosters, skill balancing and goalie coverage, so you can just sign up for the games that work for you.

We now have some realistic rink possibilities in the Old Bridge / East Brunswick area, so this could be a good fit for players around New Brunswick, Piscataway, Edison, North Brunswick, South Brunswick and the surrounding area.

Before StinkySocks commits financially to recurring ice, though, we need a better sense of how many people would actually participate.

I put together a short interest form asking which rink areas and start times you’d realistically play, how often you’d attend and what you’d be comfortable paying per game:

https://forms.gle/QbUVpwt4U6J4Z8Qw8

This isn’t registration for a specific game and nobody is being charged anything. The goal is just to figure out whether there’s enough dependable demand to make a regular Central Jersey game work.

Both skaters and goalies are encouraged to fill it out.

If you already completed the previous North Jersey version of the form, you don’t need to do it again. Your response is already included.

If you play adult hockey anywhere around New Brunswick or Middlesex County, I’d really appreciate you filling it out and sharing it with anyone else who might be interested.

Arts I remember when the local smoke shop carried two of my art shirt designs! Should I do another run?

I have always had a few different designs / artwork wanted to put on some T-Shirts -- especially ones that have to do with New Jersey life / lore. They were sold at $30 each. The owners of the shop were incredibly generous and did not even take a cut of the ones they sold. It was by no means a way to make money, obviously, but did love that people were interested enough to purchase and wear them!

Would be grateful for any suggestions / opinions / comments.

And I am in the midst of making my New Jersey Devil drawing into a t-shirt design that I would consider putting into this series...

Luggage storage

Hello, my daughter and I are coming for the day to visit Rutgers NB. We are moving to the next college that night, is there any place that will store luggage for the day while we go to the open house? It doesn’t look like the train station has that service and we aren’t planning on heading back to the airport unless we have to.

What are New Brunswick businesses still managing manually?

I’m an NJ-based full-stack developer, and I recently worked with a Morristown business on both its customer-facing website and an internal platform for understanding customer activity and retention.

The project made me realize how many local businesses still piece together bookings, customer information, follow-ups, and reporting manually.

For New Brunswick business owners and employees: what repetitive part of running the business still takes more time than it should? I’m curious whether booking, customer follow-up, reporting, scheduling, or something completely different causes the most frustration.

Perhaps New Brunswick should attach initiatives that can provide services and assistance for the unhoused?

Targeted enforcement of loitering etc seems like a page out of early 90s Giuliani callous playbook in NYC.

Side note—irrespective of their living situation they are citizens—many of whom voted in this past primary.
