He was taken to a hospital after another performance a couple of months ago. Hope he has a speedy and lasting recovery.

Having a rough night and this just made me laugh. Thank you, I needed this.

22

u/hippiechick725 23h ago

I hate that I laughed

13

u/Paavo_Nurmi 23h ago

He's going to be in the hospital...all night long

8

u/tolcol1 23h ago

Ah yo. 🤣

8

u/Ganjaleezarice69 20h ago

He ought to stop performing

24

u/BustAMove_13 17h ago

Worst thing you can do as an elderly person is stop doing the things you love. You gotta stay moving.

4

u/lookslikesausage 14h ago

Is it possible for him to move without performing, though?

4

u/BustAMove_13 13h ago

Yes, but if he loves it, why stop? Unless his doctors tell him to.

1

u/OMNeigh 8h ago

I think the answer to "why stop" is pretty evident

12

u/UnpluggedUnfettered 10h ago

People will look at a 77 year old man with a cigarette between his lips choosing to use his free will to accept that additiction is truly life-long, and be like "fuck it, he's 77, he earned it, let him do what he wants and go out on his terms."

I feel like, as a 77 year old man worth a quarter-billion dollars who is choosing to use his free will bringing entertainment to strangers, fuck it. He's 77. He earned it. Let him do what he wants and go out on his terms.

Please don't take him from us so soon. I've had enough of my childhood die for the year, tyvm

207

u/Aunt_Anne 1d ago

At least he's not 80, so fingers crossed.

160

u/fatrice12340 23h ago

hes 77

110

u/Automatic-Fox-3837 23h ago

I almost called you a liar. In my head he was a young 65

30

u/RsquSqd 22h ago

Just a whipper snapper

14

u/RangerLt 21h ago

Just a friggin kid

4

u/Gear_Kitty 19h ago

Still so much of his life ahead of him.

1

u/Nukleon 13h ago

He was singing with The Commodores 50 years ago, I don't think he did so as a kid.

1

u/DissKhorse 10h ago

The average age of male death in the USA.

135

u/IceNein 23h ago

Feels like the year David Bowie, Prince, George Michael and Carrie Fisher died.

69

u/High-Priest-of-Helix 20h ago

2016, the year everything went to shit.

Dicks out for Harambe

5

u/gopednomad 14h ago

That's the inflection point. Not enough dicks out, we fucked up the timeline...

25

u/za72 22h ago

I didn't know George Michael had died :/

8

u/Keldrabitches 18h ago

On fucking Christmas 🙁🙁

2

u/Global_Perspective_3 8h ago

Yep i remember smh

-5

u/za72 16h ago

celebration gone wrong I presume?

7

u/pinkfondantfancy 16h ago

No, he died as a result of heart and liver disease. All his previous celebrating was probably a contributing factor tho

2

u/za72 15h ago

he died so young :(

3

u/pinkfondantfancy 15h ago

Far too young, it's really sad. 50s is when people start dying of natural causes more, you're not old but your body has a good few miles on it, and some people's miles have been rough.

0

u/no_talent_ass_clown 19h ago

It was almost 10 years ago. Did you just think he wasn't making any music?

7

u/za72 18h ago edited 16h ago

this may surprise you, although I know who he is and why he's famous I was never into his music

It's still a heartbreaking news because he was someone I liked as a person

3

u/-SaC 15h ago

Losing Rik Mayall and Terry Pratchett (GNU Sir pTerry) within such a short period was bloody horrible.

7

u/d01100100 22h ago

All of those were far younger though, 50s and 60s.

21

u/TsunGeneralGrievous 21h ago

69 oddly enough. Alan Rickman and David Bowie particularly. Carrie was 60 on the dot and George was 53. They’re so young in comparison. Quite an awful time. Poor Debbie Reynolds was 84 herself when she passed after Carrie.

8

u/MyMartianRomance 17h ago

Carrie and George also died suddenly. Rickman and Bowie both had cancer (Pancreatic and Liver), and even though Bowie died suddenly to the general public, his family and closest confidants knew he was dying.

2

u/TsunGeneralGrievous 16h ago

true. ah i remember there was that whole big brother clip with bowie's ex wife telling another contestant that he died, but there was a david on the show as well so the person she told went hysterical and got mad at her, and made the whole thing about herself when the old lady was grieving. Also i think the david on the show was planning a "i'm not dead" type of tour and died before it happened.

2

u/lekker-boterham 15h ago

That was absolutely iconic television though

https://youtu.be/97pEKGNT0Xw?is=mPxVECdrpTkdSEGV

3

u/TsunGeneralGrievous 14h ago

"I FORGOT THAT SHE SCREAMS" oh what a thing to say.

2

u/TsunGeneralGrievous 14h ago

time to rewatch. it really is such an iconic moment

2

u/Global_Perspective_3 8h ago

2016 was the original worst year ever

2

u/abd00bie 18h ago

Celebs should take time off until 2027, they can afford to

72

u/fictionallymarried 23h ago

Keep the fucking scythe away, Grim

72

u/Agitated_Ad7576 18h ago edited 18h ago

I heard a funny radio interview with him ages ago:

"Your daughter Nicole has gotten into reality TV. How do you feel about that?"

"Well, my own dad is long gone, but I'm sure he's having a good laugh wherever he is. You see, there was this time, many years ago, when I came home from college with a huge Afro, handlebar mustache, and wearing platform shoes. I said 'Dad, I'm dropping out of school and forming a band called The Commodores. We're going to be the black Beatles.' And I could just not understand why my dad wasn't happy for me."

44

u/tschawartz12 21h ago

Stop taking the entertainment industry, theres plenty of politicians to pick from dam it, we've been waiting on the McConnell announcement but only got Graham.

85

u/Rubychan228 23h ago

Oh, come on 2026! This is 2016 all over again!

24

u/CasualRampagingBear 19h ago

That means it’s only 4 years until another global pandemic 😬

7

u/Jarfy 16h ago

The curse can't be too predictable. It's probably World War III this time.

3

u/CasualRampagingBear 16h ago

New timeline just hatched! Global pandemic and WWIII in 2030!

2

u/King_Bobby-B 9h ago

Is it a new timeline, or we're just looping back 100 years?

1

u/PurchaseDry9350 8h ago

I rebuke that in the name of Jesus.

0

u/finnjakefionnacake 14h ago

are people of the opinion that there are only a couple years where a lot of beloved celebrities die? cause...it's every year lol

101

u/Snarkyforlife 23h ago

Isn’t this like the third time this happened? Sir, please stop, we beg you.

19

u/ImPrettyDoneBro 23h ago

Don't you fucking dare.

38

u/sex 1d ago

NOOOOOOOOOO.

You can't have him yet!

11

u/samenamenick1 22h ago

The documentary on this mofo will be crazy once he passes. He really does/did have an unbelievable career run. Guy was everywhere

37

u/Charming-Standard-84 22h ago

I don't want to sound morbid–I LOVE Lionel Richie–but if it happens and he sees the Grim Reaper, I hope his last thoughts are:

"Hello, is it me you're looking for?"

11

u/appleparkfive 17h ago

I can see it in your schythe

98

u/Fancy-Animal7704 1d ago

Must have been one hell of a performance.

39

u/Dirty_Commie_Jesus 1d ago

Hazard of dancing on the ceiling

24

u/whereitsat23 23h ago

All night long

9

u/Masterweedo 23h ago

Gravity is a harsh mistress.

51

u/mynadidas5 1d ago

I’m not being funny. Before seeing this article my husband told me about a show some friends went to last night that “was great… until the commodores came on”.

And then I read Lionel is in the ICU.

1

u/Squirll 9h ago

Was supposed to go All Night Long

7

u/WhistlinJealousGuy 21h ago

Don't you fucking dare!

Not whilst HE is still allowed to live.

16

u/Romanticfrys 1d ago

Heart issue? Maybe it's time to retire.

2

u/kyle787 17h ago

Maybe, but it's been really hot the last couple of days in St Louis.

13

u/witchspoon 23h ago

May the lord bless him and keep him and make his face shine upon him…but leave him here alive and healthy! Amen

11

u/Amonamission 21h ago

God seems intent on taking away the most beloved people and not the one singular figure we’ve been hoping would die for 10+ years.

8

u/Admirable-Sink-2622 23h ago

Nooooooo....

Enough already. Can 💀☠️ take a break until 2027?

3

u/Mitzukai_9 21h ago

No! Grim needs to start taking souls to the OTHER side too.

3

u/speedyforasloth 18h ago

We are killing the wrong people! Stop it already grim reaper.

6

u/warcomet 21h ago

Just be a Judge, you don't need to hold performances anymore, I don't think any musician over 80 should perform anymore..You have NOTHING to prove..

6

u/oldfogey12345 23h ago

I guess he cant go all night long anymore.

It happens to the best of us.

2

u/SpellConnect8675 22h ago

No fiesta can last forever

6

u/Dove-a-DeeDoo 23h ago

Don’t do this shit to me, Grim- DON’T.

2

u/Foxhack 19h ago

God damnit please let him be okay

4

u/Jgibbjr 23h ago

His ex would like half of his coffin.

2

u/MKW69 23h ago

Oh god, not another one.

3

u/Saul_T_Bauls 22h ago

They wouldn't let him leave and said he needed to say...all night long

3

u/RoninX40 1d ago

Oh oh! Reaper has been busy.

3

u/Impossible_IT 22h ago

All the wrong ones as well! There’s a specific 80 year old the Reaper keeps missing.

1

u/RoninX40 21h ago

Oh I am right with you!

2

u/This-Top7398 23h ago

Why’s he even still performing at his age

5

u/NotAPreppie 17h ago

Maybe he enjoys it?

1

u/donkeyrocket 6h ago

Especially in St. Louis, outdoors, during the summer. There's an extreme heat advisory for the whole week. I suppose you can't really skip an entire region for a big chunk of the year but it's crazy that performance still went on.

3

u/umtan 17h ago

"Hello, I C U're looking for?" Hopefully he recovers.

1

u/raerae1991 21h ago

Dang it, 2026, leave my childhood celebrities alone!

1

u/irishjoe1972 19h ago

I hope this isn’t 2016 all over again 😥

I saw, it's vandalism, nothing confirmed yet

1

u/Have_A_Jelly_Baby 18h ago

That’s twice this summer.

Might be time to call it a day, Lionel.

1

u/NascarFan1896 17h ago

Lionel, please, stay with us

1

u/TheRealMcDuck 15h ago

He was having a hard time during his Seattle show at the start of August. It might be time to slow down some.

1

u/Opposite-Eye-8235 13h ago

Awe good luck Lionel! i hope you feel Better fast.

1

u/jeetah 8h ago

My guy has too much energy for his own good.

1

u/Global_Perspective_3 8h ago

Grim reaper needs to leave people alone

1

u/dirtyh4rry 23h ago

Say ICU, say me...

They're keeping him all night long for observation.

1

u/Cor2600 1d ago

Too many, too soon.

… anyone know how long he was in the icu?

17

u/ToastAndASideOfToast 1d ago

All night long?

1

u/lemmylemonlemming 17h ago

He's getting a little old to be dancing on the ceiling.

1

u/blofly 11h ago

Aw man. C'mon. This has been a rough month.

If Nicole needs a shoulder to cry on. I'll be around though.

1

u/stop_banning_me_omg 7h ago

Better the ICU than ICE.

-4

u/usernames_suck_ok 1d ago

So...not all night long, then.

Hopefully, he does get released tomorrow.

-3

u/beastwood9498 23h ago

It’s all those fillers. They went to his heart.

0

u/mrsfunkyjunk 21h ago

Nope. Nope. Can we not this week, Universe?

0

u/imjustkeepinitreal 9h ago edited 6h ago

These older singers really need to stop the performances… it’s too much stress once they hit a certain age with health issues they should permanently not tour or perform

Hope he pulls through

0

u/Former_Pool_593 6h ago

The top gematria channels already had this celebrity on as a topic this week.

-2

u/Sudden-Option3790 14h ago edited 14h ago

sighs I want to be like Frank or any of the characters from It's Always Sunny and be like "GODDAMNIT!" but... just aging and mortality and all. I fear the day but know it will happen when I wake up and read Danny Divito..Eminem has passed... Corey Taylor, Jonathan Davis, RDJ, Mark Hamil, ect... and it will break my heart. When Carrie Fisher died...I remember when Kevin Conroy passed...it still brings tears to my eyes. Adam West...And now Peter..damn Optimus Prime ffs sniffles... Ozzy. Dolly. John Dunsworth. It just happens. And it fucking sucks. Everything ends though. All you can do is appreciate the beauty they gave to the world that they passed down to you and others and that you pass down to others. If you pass down then you never really die, do you? Dance all night long until it is your turn to let the others keep dancing.

AHH YOU UNZIPPED ME!
