Obscure New Wave Men Without Hats...Security

https://youtu.be/Xte-y1ESQHQ?is=jtxr26jU-Xk5j5C0

This was the first tune I heard by them. Friends and I were stoned as shit, sitting in my car in my driveway listening to one of the college stations after coming home from a show at The Living Room. We all loved this tune but...being stoned...we misheard what the dj said. We were looking for the tune Security by what we thought was the Men Without Safeties.

I managed to find it at Tom's Tracks on the B side of a shaped picture disc. Still my favorite Hats song. I've toyed with idea of posting obscurities of known bands but not sure if I'm up to it.

Incidently..the night we heard this was Aldo the first time we heard Carnival Of Sorts by REM...still my favorite REM tune

Richard Blade has Ivan from Men Without Hats all this week on the “This Is the Day” segment at 3 PM Eastern Time on 1st Wave, SiriusXM Channel 33. They talked about the track, “Antarctica”, today.

I remember buying the “Rhythm of Youth” album back in summer of 1983, because “Safety Dance” was so massive that summer. And, I almost got to see them perform at the Club Casino in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire that August while visiting for a big family reunion. But, the idea got nixed by the parents, grandparents, et al. because they didn’t want to wait for me all night long. I was bummed.

I saw them on the 80s Cruise earlier this year. They played Safety Dance 3x. Also played Pop Goes the World and Moonbeam!

Radio, Radio.

Side-note though, safeties doesn't even sound close to hats. 😆

I saw them last week, opening for the B-52’s. They were so much fun. Ivan was having a blast.
