It seems like it would be a big advantage for a team to have one guy who can do this. I do t understand why more teams don’t.

Because the times this is useful are very slim and you have a limited roster size and limited substitutions so it is better to focus on higher percentage skills than this.

Lots of guys can pop it into the box with a regular throw I could put it where I wanted it in high school I just did the running start and foot drag since you have to keep both feet on the ground while you throw. I was real tall too so my ball needed an extra foot to drop from the release point which helped.

And while this gets you more power you’d have better accuracy if you could do it with a normal throw.

Because a lot of people can still get it into the 18 from the sideline. Or they try to play more quick. And it’s hard than just a hand spring because it’s on the ball.

I agree. My high school soccer team had a couple players that could do this in the late 1980’s. And they weren’t standout athletes (and the team wasn’t that good- except on throw ins!). After not seeing it for a long time, I assume it had been banned.

What is banned is throwing the ball when both feet are not on the ground. It is much harder to do this spin with this rule taken into account

I could throw it into the 18 with a regular throw as a high schooler and im not a strong person. It just not necessary for pros 99% of the time.

The real answer is it is too risky compared to the reward. The risk is to fail the throw in and loose posession in the final third. That or getting injured. And the reward is getting a bit longer throw in. All teams already have a dedicated long throw specialist, that can throw almost as long. They have and use throw in coaches. On rare occasions a player can throw like this naturally. Just search for Rory Delap.
