Wasn't that move forbidden? I saw a guy failing at it a couple of days ago, and he landed of his head. Neck pain from that must've been a bitch (if he didn't outright injure himself)

Nope it's perfectly fine. The rules state both feet must be on the ground when you release the ball, which is why they sometimes get disallowed and a throw in given to the other team. Because it's hard to do this and keep both feet on the ground at the end.
