People don’t bother sprinter vans parked in conspicuous areas overnight. They call the police on campers and caravans.

Sounds reasonable, but now their sprinter van looks like a camper, so doesn't that defeat the purpose? lol

Hardly. As long as the roof isn't popped up you can be pretty clueless whether someone is on there or not and their intentions. There's one that parks in the lot by a hospital and it took me quite a while until seeing their door open for airflow that someone was staying there at all. Probably a traveling nurse.

This would more obviously be somewhere where someone lives tho.

You can always more easily costumize a camper so it doesn't look like one

They would with a whole bedroom on the roof....

There’s definitely chats or pages where people share where it’s safe to park or free to park a camper or van like this one. A shopping plaza I would frequently pass through would always have a few campers scattered around. They technically weren’t allowed but most days nobody bothered to kick them out and as long as they didn’t set up anything outside making it more obvious it just looked liked “parked cars”. You’d even see the occasional 18 wheeler with cargo parked in the same areas.

That’s why they did this? Camping in Walmart parking lots?

Or build the one you want! Would be next fucking level!

have you seen camper prices? it's actually cheaper to build a real van out and you have it custom-made for you with actually good car underneath it.

Sure , but it looks like they dropped a pretty penny on some of their custom interior build pieces....seems like a good used swanky ass Winnebago would be roomier and easier...just me....🤘

you can buy a very nice 2nd hand camper for $40k, it's not that crazy.

Yeah, FB marketplace is full of options for even less. Like, for 20k where I live you can get something with all of these “amenities” and even more space.

Yeah this is the part I don't get

I think its more of a hobby thing. People just find satisfaction in making their own.

In this case it started as a hobby and now it's what they do professionally.

Would have been cheaper than doing this little project I can guarantee you that

Or if you really want to do this, better to get a barebones small trailer and do some upgrades for the basics like light, electricity, bed.

Hell, now with a foldable mattress and portable shower kit, you can get most of the benefits of this plus HVAC while car camping with an EV. The main benefit over car camping with an EV would be a better toilet setup. But you could also do the same, but have a small trailer with the shower and toilet.

or a caravan.

They aren't even that expensive.

Cheaper option is a popup camper trailer. You can get them with a slide out outdoors kitchen with gas/water.
