my buddy and me have the exact same van, we both bought is for roughly the same price, he put in 12k for interior and everything and i put together some whacky contraption for a couple hundred bucks for electronics (solar and battery) He hasnt used it once, i have been to more than half of all europe (more than half a year onthe road in total) in my little shitbox.

You could pay $150k for a brand new pre-built camper van.

For a brand new barebones cargo van, maybe 60k (80k if you want high-roof w/AWD). And maybe another 25k in materials to mod it if you're doing all the work yourself. That's about comparable to what this couple did. They likely paid far less than that since they do this all the time.

You could easily find a van that's 5 years old for 30k or less and do all the work with reasonable materials and get all in under 50k. Very easily.

I once had to stay in a hotel for a week for work, the shower was probably only a little bit bigger than this one I managed two days of showers in “the cupboard” before I asked the staff where the nearest gym was signed up for a month membership (shortest available) just so I could shower and not worry about smashing my elbows through the walls.

From seeing other conversions, having a toilet in the shower is a common solution. Simple fact of the matter is: there has to be compromise.

For me, it’s more the fact that they have to shit with the door open and their legs sticking out into the rest of the van in the close vicinity of three different people. If there has to be that much of a compromise, l think I’ll just stay home, or in a hotel, or anywhere else.

The bench seats rotates both ways, so when driving they can rotate the seat facing forwards. From other videos they rotate sideways when parked and to access the roof tent.

Really stupid observation,but does a forward face vs rear face car seat do any different if it doesn't have a front seat to support it? I noticed that when they first entered the van,and it doesn't seem safe whatsoever. I know the seat has to be a certain way depending on the age and weight,but again,rear facing seats have the front seat as support,am I missing something here?

So, I've actually built out a sprinter van so I feel entitled to an opinion.

They did well. There's some cool ideas in there. The tuck away toilet is a neat feature. The pop up is cool too. My wife wouldn't want it due to bears, but hey ho. Roof would typically be for solar so they're generating power somewhere else. The would be my main issue. Feels like this is deffo a weekender. No storage for clothes and other items. With that space for extra seating as well, and a shower, it has facilities. Which is overkill for a weekender.

But....

They started off with a massive advantage with that workshop. I built out mine in the street. I had to buy the tools as I needed. I reckon I spent 25K on the budget in 2018. Van was a 4x4, only 100km off new and cost 55k CAD plus tax. It was a 6 month wait for a new one at the time. I reckon they put double, triple what I spent at least. The pop up and the back rack and add ons are expensive.
