Why go through the hassle of fully insulating it if you’re going to sleep in a cardboard box on the roof?

Because cheaper AC during the day that isn't immediately leeched away by the walls being oven-hot is way more important than at night, when the sun isn't turning your little house-van into a steam chamber. The roof at night would probably be pretty cool most of the time, with that huge window..

They also insulated it wrong and will have condensation problems. That vans going to rot out. There’s a reason the proper way to do this is with spray foam.

Tell me how they insulated it wrong? Genuinely curious, I know nothing about van builds.

I think the table will turn into the main bed and the roof area is for the kids.

Better yet, move the tent to the ground so all that heat inside the van isn't channeling up into it. Then sell the van.

Yea doesn't seem very secure either. Dead of night sleeping on the top of the roof somewhere dark, no thanks.

How is it any different to camping in a tent security wise? Rooftop tents are pretty common on cars/utes/suvs for camping.
