How much weight can a Van take?

Depends on whether it's a 3.5 tonne or 5 tonne, for an L4H2 like this a 3.5 tonne will take about 900kg, and a 5 tonne 2200kg.

The reason for the 3.5 tonne is that's the limit on a standard European car license.

A lot. These are cargo vehicles. Sprinter ranges from 3-5 tons of cargo.

Not quite, they get a GVW of 3.5 or 5 tonnes. That includes the weight of the vehicle so you have to subtract that from the GVW to get the cargo limit. This being an L4H2 it's heavy, so you don't get much cargo weight in a 3.5 tonne at that size.
