Last 6 seconds, if you don't have the full 60 in you.

14

u/Soulprism 14h ago

I thought it was gonna be a loops test to see how long it takes to realise.

4

u/SSJSamzy 13h ago

I was starting to get concerned it was a truck gif as I got closer to the end.

481

u/External-Awareness68 15h ago

And it's pretty disappointing honestly

138

u/Danny886 15h ago

Not even going a full 60 usually is.

19

u/SSJSamzy 13h ago

Have you been speaking to my wife again?

8

u/mkfanhausen 8h ago

There's not usually enough time for talking....or anything else, sadly.

57

u/DigNitty 15h ago

I’m happy for him. We need more useless entertainment for ourselves and appreciation of the small things.

That being said, yeah this could have been 14sec

37

u/WestleyThe 13h ago

True but I did seeing how close he was every time. The balls were basically a meter between eachother each try

It’s cool to see that he’s good enough that it’s not just luck but also show how many times it takes

I’d like this video a lot less if it was just the one successful attempt

5

u/Fuschiakraken42 11h ago

That would just be a 6 second video though. And it would feel dishonest, like he just smashed it first try.

19

u/uselessprofession 14h ago

On the flip side I do appreciate the man posting the failed attempts as well, he was honest.

People that can't watch 60 seconds are the reason why the trend of putting the ending first exists.

Even the misses are impressive to have that control of direction

174

u/AntiMatterMode 14h ago

Unless this is a compilation of the close shots, with dozens more clips that were totally off. Which I think is likely given how every close shot elicits a reaction from the batter.

55

u/MobileArtist1371 13h ago

Look at the dirt and balls on the ground. Each attempt shown is clearly multiple attempts between each.

u/BoringPoolPlaying 4h ago

Iirc, I was following their attempts on Instagram, and this took more than one night.

They also have a series where they’re hitting a ball off a tee, then a player in the outfield hits it back to them, and they catch it. They kept adding an additional hit in between, to the point it was taking them hours to complete.

4

u/tgwhite 6h ago

This guy is clearly a decent hitter. There is a lot of ability to control the direction of the ball, especially off a tee

→ More replies (6)

10

u/IdaDuck 4h ago

My 13 year old daughter can control ball direction pretty well in a game against a live pitcher. Doing it off a tee isn’t hard.

3

11

I doubt it was consistent. Probably a lot more attempts not show

When I did it like a decade ago, I got my spore prints from groups on FB. I remember lots of mentions of sporedepot being reputable but I never purchased from them. But spores should be fairly easy to get ahold of as they're legal to sell "for microscopy". Look up "mushroom cultivation" on YT, a monotub style grow will probably be easiest first time

I skated as a kid and this is literally how you finally pull off a trick. This guy obviously has skill and you can tell by how close it was so many times. And a skater has the skill to pull off a trick as well, it isn't completely random. Persistence is a skill that separates guys in next level videos from guys that comment on them.

That’s how most impressive feats are achieved. It’s just that most people don’t bother to film all the failed attempts that lead to mastery.

144

u/Mr_Nerdcoffee 15h ago

It’s almost like it takes practice or something…

8

u/Responsible-Sound253 10h ago

But mastery implies reproducing a skill consistently.

6

u/hooligan99 3h ago

He is reproducing the skill of hitting a ball towards a tiny fast moving target with pretty good accuracy. Is Steph curry not a master three point shooter because he misses the majority of the time?

→ More replies (3)
→ More replies (2)

4

u/andreasbeer1981 7h ago

impressive feats, yes. Trickshots, no. There is no trick here, just persistence and determination and skill.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Jimanji333 9h ago

This isn’t mastery however. Unless he continues to do this until he can consistently hit the pitched ball this is just trial and error until one success.

6

u/Destroyer_2_2 9h ago

It’s his ability to aim that is mastery.

2

u/Jimanji333 9h ago

True but I think some qualifiers are this is a tee ball and not a pitch, and we don’t see any attempts where he was way off, which there may well be

I'd be lucky to even hit the damned ball. Homie in the vid is hitting them damned close to the other balls trajectory every single time.

16

u/MobileArtist1371 13h ago

Each attempt is not attempt number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... There are multiple attempts between each of these shown. Only showing the close ones and with enough attempts, you can get a good amount of close ones.

4

u/XaeroDegreaz 8h ago

Yeah dude, our guy has incredible aim, all things considered...

4

u/BuckRusty 8h ago

Yeah - without a doubt the attempts shown in the video are the only attempts they did, and not just a cherry picked selection of the closest ones over the entire time they did this…

u/Mach5Driver 8h ago

to me, it's next level because of how incredibly accurate he was with just near misses. add to that, the direction the incoming balls came from changed constantly, so he'd have to adjust EACH time.

→ More replies (2)

20

u/Phlebbie 14h ago

He is obviously aiming at the ball in flight. Getting it that close is skill. He's not hitting randomly.

23

u/PetalumaPegleg 15h ago

He is relatively close over and over again. It's not luck alone.

22

u/Slevin424 12h ago

As a failed baseball player… there’s absolutely no way to barrel a swing so accurately you could hit another ball out of the air without an impressive amount of skill and incredible luck.

If the barrel is off by a millimeter, the ball will have a vastly different trajectory going in a completely different direction once it gets half way to the pitching mound.

And the harder you swing (which he was swinging a decent single) the less and less your accuracy goes. We worship guys like Ichiro and Edgar Martinez because they had godlike abilities in terms of accurately hitting a ball in a gap that’s pretty damn wide going from center field to left or right field. Why? Because being able to aim your shots like that even in that big of a target (waaaaaay bigger than another ball) is impressively difficult.

4

u/Jimanji333 9h ago

While what you are saying is true, you are removing the fact that hitting a pitch has a lot more variables introduced and less control than hitting a tee ball.

Though it's highly unlikely that you'll hit it.

Also I don't necessarily think it's zero skill. You'll have to calculate the timing, aim and trajectory.

While it’s cool and all, I mean takes some skill to aim for a ball that is coming toward you, I think next level would be both swinging at the same time and colliding midway.

2

u/Traditional_Voice974 15h ago

Only if we filmed everything growing up I've seen what people say one in a million chance but witnessed it and those are the moments that when you tell someone you start with you wouldn't even believe me if I told you, or you just had to be there.

I love seeing this shit because I love seeing someone get ahold of something and absolutely stick with it until they get it. A lot of people would've have said "fuck this, this is dumb" hours ago, but this lad kept swinging and it paid off.

In the future when it matters, he will keep swinging when others say fuck it and walk.
