I fail to understand why he's obsessed with the idea of inhabiting a barren planet and throwing billions of dollars at it, instead of using his money to preserve this planet where there's people, trees and water already.

It's a scam to get space agencies / governments paying for technology made under his companies.

Most of his recent businesses is really just him getting money out of governments.

(EDIT: Why am I getting downvoted? Are redditors so fucking dumb that they cannot see past their hate for a little shit like Musk and see the actual scientific value of other planets? Bruh.)

The profit motive is certainly part of Musk's interest, but that's not really why governments and space agencies are interested in Mars.

Mars is scientifically valuable, and developing the ability to operate there advances technologies for long-duration human spaceflight, planetary science, resource utilization, and potentially making humanity less vulnerable to a single-planet catastrophe.

You can argue about whether Mars is worth the cost, but this whole government-subsidy scam conspiracy is just inaccurate.

Catastrophies like super meteors? How imminent is that compared to global warming (note that we'remonitoring for meteors for a while now and we have catalogues)? They both kill planets.

There's a long ass list of things to fund and worry about before interplanetairy colonisation comes up my dude.

You really don't understand Musk at all. He's a disgusting person but he's not doing all this for some minor government subsidies. He's an idiot, he really believes in the things he says.

He’s many bad things, but I’m not sure he’s an idiot. You don’t get to his height of power being an idiot

For the same reason he renamed it X and pays people to play video games for him. He thinks that's what a cool genius billionaire should look like.

He's larping

His business model is “Look like the guy who has next-level ideas.”

That’s it. That’s how he makes money.

He has so much money that he could lose 99% of it overnight and still be richer than anyone you know or will ever meet.

At this point, he's an obsessed, probably deeply mentally ill person with an illness we don't even have a name for because there are so many people aspiring to reach his level.

He can take his money and fuck off to Mars ASAP. We don't need him here!

Or we can take his money and send him to Mars asap?

You're a fool if you think he would actually throw away his current lifestyle to huff it om mars.

Oh he doesn’t give a single fuck about going to mars. But boy does he love when the government gives him more money!

I think he has developed a dynastic psychosis. we can not let the rich escape to a planet where we will not be able to touch them anymore.
